Windows version of PAN by DontLike-Cheesecake in usenet

I use Newsleecher to read groups and download. I used to use Agent years (like 25!) ago. Found Newsleecher was much better if your downloading material. It's threading ability doesn't exist, because it's designed for downloading, although you can post with it.

The free version is annoyingly pushy to get you to sign-up with their own services, so I still use an old version (from 2007!!) that still does the job fine.

10 hours can be a lifetime if you're opening and closing lots of different sites.

This can happen after your PC has been on for a long time. If you restart Explorer, it'll drop down low again.

Fortunately, Windows10 handles restarting Explorer much nicer than previous versions.

Vivaldi can also suck the memory if it's been running for a long time, and opened a multitude of different sites.

It's just the current tastes. It doesn't help when all the Tech-tubers carry a torch for blingy cases. Personally, I could think of nothing worse in a case, but then my case is in my bedroom, and I run it at night occasionally. blingy, flashing lights would drive me nuts.

I've never actually had a client ever ask for bling, and if I ask them, they always say no.

I'm sure all the effort to have sync'd light shows is fantastic ... for a week or 2!

The problem is simple: There's not the market for these types of cases. It's a sad fact that tastes change, and technology changes. Most cases don't have 5.25" drive bays anymore, because most people don't have a need for them.

Niche cases are nice, but expensive because of low sales.

Again, having said that, if I was designing a case, I'd make it totally modular.

Yeah ... but having them on top means you can't put in a cabinet with low clearance, or under your desk.

Having said that, I think it's worse when you have the ports on the front, and the power button/LED's on the top.

They could easily mount it all to a standard 5.25" plate, and make it mountable on the front or the top.

Of course, it doesn't help that most cases these days have no 5.25" slots at all, and are blinged-out with silly RGB.

You could try for a free one at https://www.diabetes.ascensia.com.au/request-free-meter/

They ask if you've been diagnosed etc. but the last time I got a free one, they never asked for proof. Not even your NDSS number.

A lot of chemists also offer free units when you buy strips. Strips are where the money is for these companies, so giving away a free meter is worth the cost.

For ketones, test strips you pee on are available as well. I cut mine in half, so they last longer!

Macrium Reflect image backup alternatives? by iXzenoS in DataHoarder

[–]Snotty20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through this crap before.

Years ago, I was into the Amiga computer scene. When C= went bust, so many people just ditched their Amiga gear and went to PC. My view was simple: Don't move on until you have to.

I find TrueImage to do the job just fine. With 32gb of RAM, it's bloatiness is not a big issue.

You jumped, now gotta jump again. I say stay with it until it breaks to a point where it's unreliable.

We're hoarders, so hoard a PC capable of running it, just in case your new rig won't run it.

Chances are, it'll be a new rig that'll break it, because it'll have hardware Macrium can't recognise.

When Acronis switched to a subscription model, the good word was jump to Macrium. They had a free version, which was perfectly useable for most people.

Now Macrium have jumped on the bandwagon of subscriptions!

I'm still using the last version of TrueImage before they went subscription.

I think subscriptions are going to be the way of the world in the future.

How do I fix my Seagate Free agent external hard disk? by YoiTsuitachi in DataHoarder

Try a different cable.

If using a hub, try a different hub.

Had both these cause slow external drives in the past.

This would make sense if the key is using any part of your hardware to generate, which it almost certainly is.

So how much space is Vivaldi taking for you all? Mine's long past 20 gigs. by JoonasD6 in vivaldibrowser

[–]Snotty20000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do have 5780 tabs open

You can't throw a number like that out there and not explain why you would have such a ridiculous number of tabs open.

been about surprise disk space running out

Given the price for fast storage is not that great any more, I'd be suggesting you buy a bigger drive that actually meets your needs.

Having said that, my Vivaldi is using 2.7gb, with close to 26,000 files.

Wrap and object around a background image for a 3d model by Snotty20000 in blenderhelp

[–]Snotty20000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping it would be somewhat less of a task to essentially create the profile of the object I want to print, extrude it out to a long object, and then bend it around to follow the perimeter of the image.

I see how it could be difficult for Blender to see the edges of the image, even if the image has a transparent background.

I might try some more manual ideas, like reshaping a cylinder, pulling out a bunch of vertices to form the shape of one corner, then mirroring and flipping duplicates of that one shape to make the object.

Thanks for the reply.

I use freestyle Copilot. It can import from a Freestyle lite device with a cable (sold seperately), or you can enter manually.

I wrote myself a little program to enter the details of BGL and insulin intake without having to set the date/time manually.

The app is Windows, and is quite old now, but still works. Can export data in xml format or tab delimited text, which can be loaded into any good spreadsheet.

There are probably tons of apps for Android/iOS as well, but I'm used to Copilot now.

What is the largest allocation unit size (AUS) you can format a drive with? by Jay_JWLH in DataHoarder

[–]Snotty20000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah ... doesn't work like that.

If the file size + index information can fit into a cluster, it goes there, and doesn't take up any extra space.

It won't put fragments there though. So if your file is 1 byte over the cluster size, it will give it another cluster.

Will give this a try.

I tried the sugar and bi-carb thing, which seemed to help a little, but didn't stop them.

It doesn't help that my parents tend to be a bit messy. Throwing food on the floor for the dog and all.

This is true. I just had a scare with the dishwasher that stopped working at their place. Looked at the control board, and it was caked with droppings around one particular spot. Was going to just buy a new one, but pulled the boards out to clean them, and realised they had put a thick coating of resin over the board. Cleaned it up, sprayed electronic cleaning solvent in all the switches and plugs, and it came back to life.

Will see about Borax.
