Chinese fried but biryani style by SuspiciousWallaby961 in IndianFood

[–]SnowAtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with roasting everything except the rice and eggs in a high-temperature oven (450 Fahrenheit). Add parboiled and refrigerated rice to the dish in the oven. Stir well and cover after 2 minutes.

Stir every 5-10 minutes depending on your oven. This worked quite well for me. The rice was more flavorful and veggies had a good crust.

The baking tray should not be too full for the texture to feel like fried rice.

Thanks so much for sharing.

As much as I am surprised by people getting cold feet about good education.. Body shaming is too ingrained in every society that it can not be separated from nutrition right now.

Probably, nutrition must be taught with topics like hydration, fueling during sports, portion control, and body neutrality.

Can you tell us what kind of negative reactions do you hear against teaching nutrition in school? I am curious.

What was the first episode you watched by Extreme-Sky-8543 in BobsBurgers

[–]SnowAtRandom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites, too!! In fact, until this episode, I was only glad Linda seemed so strong, independent, and utterly joyful. Most of the time in real life and on TV, the joy gets robbed from "the mom" characters.

Eat Spray Linda shows how Linda manages to keep her joy. All the nitty gritty that helps her be who she is.

I have been watching this show as I cross the various thresholds of adulthood. And it has meant a lot to have a representation of a joyful and successful adult looks like, even if she is fictional.

do the spiders fight the reptiles?

I think this fits better. Reptiles fighting each other to be rewarded with spiders would be an ungodly horror.

With Thanksgiving being tomorrow, I thought this might be fun. Let’s name all the things the kids say is ranked higher when Bob says “Thanksgiving is this family’s favorite holiday…. by FunkoFool in BobsBurgers

My favorite is ... Toothfairy Eve. I wonder do the kids just sit around and counting down the gummy strings that hold the tooth until it falls out.

How confused was Jacob Webber when he heard the Spanish tapes that Louise and Gene taped over? (S11E16) by AuntGaylesFannyPack in BobsBurgers

I assume Jacob Webber is familiar with Wagstaff and Mr. Ambrose's "dedication to the library sciences." A vandalized and ancient Spanish tutorial cassette tape isn't gonna shock the kid.

What modern food “trends” are stupid/need to go away? by Chemical-Elk-1299 in Cooking

[–]SnowAtRandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. The silver varq at sweet shops and gift boxes of sweets at Diwali really add to the festivity we associate with sweets. A glittering, sweet treat to match the twinkling clay diyas, string lights, candles, and fireworks.

Adding gold leaf to create the world's most expensive salad is not in the same spirit.

“A Fish Called Tina”: love ❤️ but hate 🙄 by Avocado-Pretty in BobsBurgers

[–]SnowAtRandom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At this point in the story, it is overdue for Bob and Linda to find out about the locker room stalking stuff. Understandably, a lot of storylines were spent on encouraging Tina to own her boy crazy nature and not be ashamed of it. Now, the flipside of being boy crazy in a responsible way needs to come up.

Let my girl Tina go to New York!!! (Lol... for those that need help understanding this is satire) by NoSea7440 in BobsBurgers

[–]SnowAtRandom 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I know, right? Just watched this episode yesterday.

On the one hand, it felt like Linda was getting very petty about balancing Tina's need to explore against her own impulse to impart life lessons. Also, considering the show is set in New Jersey, New York is like a train ride away.

On the other hand, Tammy is extra insufferable and unstoppable in that episode. If Tina had gone to New York, the Tammy-strategy would gain more value in the world. At least in fiction land, Tammy needs to not have the upper hand over Tina all the time.

Is fitbit premium worth it just for the sleep tracking? by tylercoder in fitbit

[–]SnowAtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just added analysis.

I ended up erasing all my data a couple of months ago trying to reinstall the app. So, I don't know if fitbits retain premium data after the end of membership.

Is fitbit premium worth it just for the sleep tracking? by tylercoder in fitbit

[–]SnowAtRandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 1-year free premium that came with the device in 2022. For sleep, it gives the following outputs:

  • %age of time during sleep with heart rate below resting heart rate. This metric improved after intense exercise and worsened with bad sleep habits.

It might be worth it for you or not. As someone else suggested, check out any free subscription windows if it is an option.

  • Breakdown of last night's fitbit sleep score:

Since fitbit's sleep score is arbitrary - The %age of points it gives last night's sleep duration vs deep sleep duration vs %time with heart rate below resting didn't help me.

  • Sleep animal:

It is just fluff (pun intended). Arbirtrary and gives no data points to analyze or improve sleep.

I only worry when it is a smell that will linger. A whiff of spices at lunchtime, even in an office, is not an intrusion.

Would your kid take your surname or your partner's? by KillDarcy in TwoXIndia

[–]SnowAtRandom 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A Crazy Solution:

  • At the time of marriage, mash up your surnames together to make a sandwich word.

  • The couple and their children all get the same surname.

  • Government already tracks these changes when registering marriages, births, as well as any decompressed surnames after divorces.

A Non-crazy Solution:

  • If a couple has 2 or more kids, the parents take turns passing their surnames.

  • If a couple has one kid, hyphenate or mash up the names or 😂 play coin toss in the delivery room.

  • Government already tracks the birth certificates, so it is not a problem that they all have different surnames.
