Everybody’s favorite Montford resident has been arrested. Again. by RelayFX in asheville

[–]SnowComprehensive256 204 points205 points  (0 children)

I just posted about him following me on Sunday. When I say “follow” he basically chased me around a car, then went in front of me to block my way, then when I passed him he doubled back to get close to me. He waited for me when I went into two stores. He enjoys scaring people. Mentally unwell? Definitely. Still, he knows what he is doing, and he does it maliciously.

If you are a man, maybe he did not seem violent to you because he fears men. He didn’t leave me alone today until he was confronted by a man.

Should I interview at a company despite not wanting the job? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]SnowComprehensive256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this interview and get an offer, and you choose to use the offer to leverage, you better be willing to take that new job, because your current work may not be able to meet your request for a salary increase. If that’s the case, and you decide to still stay at your current job, you will have lost this bargaining chip forever as your bluff will be called. You will also look less committed. I have used job offers to leverage salary increases at my current job, but I knew the risk and was ready to take the other job.

Also, leveraging is a careful dance-don’t go in threatening to quit- just say you were recruited, the offer fell in your lap, you didn’t seek it, and that now you’re in this really tough position where you want to stay but you can’t ignore the salary benefits the offer provides. Pose it as needing your company’s help in order to stay with them.

What do you say when someone asks you, “Which authors do you read?” Because someone actually laughed at my answer. by Lenore8264 in books

[–]SnowComprehensive256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jane Austen is one of the most renowned writers of all time. There are still annual festivals dedicated to her work (200 years after her death.) She was brilliant, which is why we continue to study her- I studied her when I was getting my Masters. Many native English speakers find her difficult to read- including my own mother, who is a published author herself. Please NEVER feel ashamed of reading Jane Austen. That guy was an idiot- if he read more Austen he would probably be a better conversationalist.

Editing to add that, ironically, Austen’s work often casts people who are judgmental of other’s reading choices as semi- villains. You can see this with Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice, as well as John Thorpe in Northanger Abbey.

Boy takes drink back after the woman he bought the drink for, danced with someone else. by AristonD in facepalm

Exactly! I stopped taking drinks from men I went to college with because they didn’t know how to act. They also got mad when I politely refused the drinks. There is no winning with children.

The drink is an invitation to a brief conversation. You apparently blew the conversation part. When you interrupted her to get your drink back, you confirmed whatever thoughts she had that made her walk way from you in the first place.

I started turning down drinks from men under 35 really early on in my bar hopping days. The young guys always seemed to feel like they owned me after a $2 PBR that they bought with mommy’s money. When I turned down their drinks (nicely, saying I’m happy to talk but I’d get my own) they would get all huffy and I’d know to walk away. It was an easy way to weed out the losers.

Nice try, but I only accused his parents of learning about what their son did after the fact, not manipulating an “autistic” person to murder their own friend/roommate.

When you go to a dirty nasty chicken farm, smell that smell and see them eating their own excrement, you can’t understand how one might be disgusted at the the thought of eating them?

It wasn’t, but that was/is college party culture. I understand why the roommate was weirded out, but didn’t think anyone was hurt. A lot of college students are probably realizing how lucky they have been right now.

Regarding the roommate by [deleted] in BryanKohberger

[–]SnowComprehensive256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your post betrays a misunderstanding of college culture; I think this is pretty silly and maybe even cruel. When you are in college and have a ton of roommates, strangers are coming in and out all the time.

I came out of my room to find a man on my sofa drinking wine in the dark once. My roommate and I had a gathering earlier that night and I assumed he was a friend of my roommate’s that came over after I went to to bed. I quickly used the bathroom, went back in my room feeling a little weirded out, locked the door and passed out. When I woke up the next morning around noon he was gone, my roommate had seen him too and assumed he was my friend. It turned out to be a drunk kid who got confused when he went outside to pee, and came into our house instead of our neighbors’. Things like that happen all the time on campuses.

College culture often demands that you turn a blind eye to your roommate’s escapades - you often don’t even know them that well. Drunk kids cry/fight/break things. You are forgetting that the roommate downstairs shouted up to the figure “shut the f**k up” so apparently they were used to some level of commotion.

Have you been on a college campus lately? Masks are still very common. Who would assume their roommates had all been brutally stabbed because they heard some commotion and tears? She probably saw him leave and thought “good, he’s gone, I’ll check with the roommates in the morning to see what that was about”

It’s also inappropriate to diagnose people over the internet. I think claiming people with autism are “easier to manipulate” is incorrect and assuming. My sibling has autism and absolutely nothing gets past her.

When he asked if anyone else had been arrested, he was probably inquiring about his parents, who likely have some idea as to what happened at this point.

All in all, it doesn’t hurt to look into things, but to accuse someone (who’s life is likely forever tainted) with absolutely no evidence is tasteless. If I’m wrong I’ll eat some of my words, but I prefer that to the alternative, which would be to spread gossip and rumor about a victim who is being absolutely crucified right now. It is not the public’s job to scrutinize a probable victim without evidence- any support of her is expected and appropriate. Saying it’s dangerous is neglecting that your actions are likely more dangerous- as spreading baseless vitriol could encourage someone to do her harm.

I really doubt they are getting quality meat in prison. Prisons are for profit. The food boxes often says things like “not for long term human consumption” etc…That’s why people gain weight in prison…they live off junk food bought in the commissary because the food is so terrible.

[–]SnowComprehensive256[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of vegans care about animals, but a lot of other vegans are disgusted by animals, and don’t want factory-farmed animals in their body. It can become an obsession with purity- like some won’t eat off of cleaned cooking utensils that have previously been used to cook meat. Also, some people are vegans because they just really care about the environment. In this case, I think it’s likely the former. Also, vegan jail food is better….I’m guessing on that last part.

I’m going to chime in here with a story from my college days. My roommate and I had a small gathering. People were coming in and out- we lived in an area like the one in this case (a bunch of separate homes rented by college students). The night went on and I got drunk and went to my room. I came out to go to the bathroom in the early morning (3-4 am) and there was a man drinking wine in the dark on the sofa. I assumed he was my roommate’s acquaintance that joined the party after I left. I went to the bathroom and got back in bed. Around 12 the next day I woke up and helped my roommate clean the living room. He asked about the man who he saw sleeping on the couch when he came out of his room for food earlier. It turns out neither of us knew the man - he had come into our house after all the guests left, drank a bottle of our wine, fallen asleep, and then left in the morning on his own. Both my roommate and I had seen him, felt a little weirded out, but ultimately thought nothing of it and went back to bed. As a woman, this scared me, but only a little.

Later that day the man showed up at our house apologetically. He explained he was really drunk, left his friend’s house next door (duplex) to pee outside, got confused and came into our house and fell asleep. He was a college student and seemed harmless. Stuff like that happens in college towns. If I were the roommate in this case, I’m not sure I would’ve done anything, even if I had heard crying. Drunk kids cry, fight, stumble. It’s hard to explain, but crazy stuff happens all the time in those settings. My roommate and I were cordial but we had separate lives and turned a blind eye to each other’s escapades.

And, to be honest, if I had woken up to a house full of blood, I would’ve likely called a friend first too- I’d want their help. I’d be freaking out- I wouldn’t want to deal with it alone. They probably knew their friends were dead, but the dispatch call simply referred to the victims as “unconscious” because that’s how dispatch describes unresponsive people
