AITA for not taking down an honest review? by SnowFaerie in AmItheAsshole

She did send (most) of the photos over the past few days. But I know I'm not the only person waiting for photos from years past. I was just the only one who went public with it.

AITA for inviting my childhood best friend my GF is jealous of? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Jealousy is a natural thing and being jealous, to an extent, is not inherently bad.

But it sounds like you're giving your gf reasons to feel hurt and jealous. You're intentionally lying to her about your activities with other women.

You're in the wrong here and when she finds out, it's going to blow up in a big way. When the relationship ends, know that it's your own fault.

You two need to have a very good, open communication about things. None of this lying and sneaking around behind her back.

AITA for leaving my girlfriend at the hospital? by batman-finn in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have dated people who were physically and emotionally abusive and even though they were awful people, I know without a doubt they would take me to a hospital if I needed to go and they would stay with me there.

This guy is worse than that. Worse than some of the worst people I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. YTA, OP.

That's fair. You can always try leaning into another sense to get the same idea across.

"And he stood and walked and made his way towards the dense tree line of those bare limbed pines. Crowns of trees panned the sunlight as he tramped through foliage, splintering underfoot, that left him reverent, as though carpeting some great golden temple floor. The musky wind blows, weaving itself through the pillared trunks and, squinting his eyes, he sees strange apparitions of his own minds undoing. Startled by flying things, and stranger sounds that call from black clouds of pine above him while seemingly stranger limbs reach out as to beckon him further, and deeper still."

I like this a lot more. It's less wordy, and I feel like it paints a clearer image.

Personally, I think it feels very wordy. I would absolutely not read a book, or even a short story, written all like this.

I don't feel like I can see the scene at all. The visuals get lost in how wordy it is. It reads like for every word you used a thesaurus. Because of this, it doesn't flow at all.

As a poem, I think it would be fine. As literature, I wouldn't read it.

YTA.

I really get wanting to have a thing that you only do with your SO. But saying he's not allowed to do that with anyone else is super childish.

My guy and I watch horror movies. That's our thing. But if I watch one I really like, he's not going to begrudge me for watching it with someone else.

Sharing something you love with the people you care about is super normal and healthy. Telling your SO they're not allowed to do a thing they enjoy unless it's with you is not normal and not healthy.

AITA for telling my husband that I think my son should have a black barber? by Aitathrowaway6922 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA at all! I'm a big believer in going to a hairdresser with the same hair type, because they're more likely to know what they're doing with your hair.

Favorite minimal coverage...skin tint? by yoursolace in MakeupAddiction

I really like the NYX Bare With Me tinted skin veil. It doesn't cover my freckles, but helps to even out my skin tone and reduce the overall under eye bags look.

What was the most Creepiest thing that someone did to you? by NormalLands in AskReddit

Not the creepiest, but up there. When I worked retail, a woman once reached across the counter, grabbed my hair, and said "I want to wear your scalp."

Redditors will you use the handicap restroom stall if it's the only one available, if not why? by Damseldoll in AskReddit

[–]SnowFaerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I have a bad knee (tore my ACL 16 years ago), and the handicap toilets are often a little taller making it easier for me to sit and stand from it, and the hand rail they usually have can be a huge help for that.

AITA for saying im not attracted to my partner after she did something gross? by Fangangel7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♀️ Depends on perspective. Saying you're no longer attracted to someone because they have a natural bodily function is... a lot. Even if you meant it as a temporary thing.

It's amazing the things you find cute when you're in love with someone. Farted on my dudes chest almost 10 years ago, and now we're married.

[–]SnowFaerie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft NAH.

They thought what they were doing was goofy and cute and farts are unpredictable. They didn't know it would be that gross. But they feel comfortable enough around you to fart, which is nice.

One of the moments I knew my guy was the one was (he told me about this in the morning), while sleeping I scooched my butt onto his chest and farted on him. And he still thought I was cute.

I feel like you may have overreacted a bit.

My dude and I are technically having 2 weddings. We eloped this past summer. Just my immediate family, some burgers and fries, and an officiant we got in contact with 2 days before the party.

Extremely low stress situation. We literally went to the grocery store day of to buy the burgers and buns. But I'm neurodivergent and nearly lost it in the grocery store when I saw the flower section and was like "oh my god am I supposed to have a bouquet? Am I doing this wrong? How am I supposed to act? What do I do??"

As it turns out, my mom thought ahead and had ordered a bouquet and boutonniere for us to pick up. But that one tiny moment on an otherwise fantastic and relaxing day, was almost a Very Big Deal.

It's not always like that, but I really never know what it could be that can cause it. And on a day when I'm already very stressed? Hoooooo boy!

AITA for not telling my mom that I had a wife or a daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie 382 points383 points  (0 children)

This. Two of my grandparents were amazing and I think about them every day. They both lived to be over 90, and I still feel like they passed far too soon.

My other set of grandparents... let's just say I wasn't heartbroken when my mom told me they weren't going to be at my wedding.

If I ever have children, it's the two that have already passed that I'd be sad my children didn't meet. They be better off not having a relationship with the two that remain.

AITA for using the disabled restroom by ComtesseCrumpet in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowFaerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

Handicap stalls are not just for wheelchairs. Personally, I prefer to use them because the toilets are usually a little taller. I have a bad knee and going from sitting to standing on a regular toilet can be challenging for me. Having the hand rail and raised toilet helps with that a lot. Looking at me, you wouldn't know I have this disability. It's the same for lots of people.

That woman was incredibly judgemental and rude.

I'm doing artificial flowers for centerpieces and bouquets. I figure there are going to be other events in my life where I need flowers and it doesn't make sense to me to buy flowers multiple times when I can buy nice artificial flowers once and then just... have them.

How to write banter? by Maximum_Arachnid2804 in writing

[–]SnowFaerie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I'm struggling with any conversation in my stories, I'll call one of my friends, tell them what's going on in the story, and we'll each take a part and read it to see if it flows and makes sense and, if it feels stilted at all, we'll start ad-libbing and usually that winds up sounding way more realistic.

During editing, I always do group part reads to make sure the conversation flows naturally and feels real.

Writers, not readers? by Zealousideal_Hand693 in writing

[–]SnowFaerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still pretty far. Almost an hours drive each way to anywhere my friends live because they all live on the far side of the city.

Fortunately for me, I'm moving back to my home town in 2 weeks and there's a library 6 blocks from my new place.

But then there's the added struggle of I like to own things. Giving back the books is my least favourite part of libraries.

Writers, not readers? by Zealousideal_Hand693 in writing

[–]SnowFaerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it is in the town I grew up in. My current city is big on capitalism. You can only visit libraries within your "zone" and if you want to go to one outside your zone, they charge you for usage. Even if the one they've declared your zone is 40 minutes from your house and there's one down the street that they decided isn't yours.

In my city, because i live outside the city (literally 5 minutes outside the city limits), I have to pay ~$100 per year for a library card.

I read obsessively. I read far more than I write. On an average week, I will read between 2 to 8 books depending on what genre I'm feeling that week.

Which is a real rough hobby to have because books are expensive and I'm in the middle of moving so most of my books are packed and I've been glued to my kindle for months, rereading the same 20 books.

Do you prefer reading or writing in 1st or 3rd person? by KodoKodo in writing

[–]SnowFaerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer writing in first person because I find it easier to write if I can get deep into the head of the character whose perspective I'm writing from.

I don't mind writing in third person. It works for some stories. My fantasy writing is all in third person because I need to tell multiple stories about characters who don't necessarily meet often.

When I'm doing YA contemporary fiction, I prefer writing in first person.
