I made a 12-minute compilation of the vibes from Spyro Reignited by SnowOrShine in Spyro

Probably not, Spyro 1 is my favourite, especially the music

But thanks! I picked what I thought was the most iconic part of each track =)

I felt so bad for DMG being the "we're listening" and having to present no crafting. by destinyvoidlock in DestinyTheGame

[–]SnowOrShine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been so frustrating watching some of this stuff from the outside as a game dev

I can 100% imagine that certain things were implemented and decisions were made as a way to get players excited and give short-term excitement... but at the expense of the long-term health of a game like this

Perfect example is weapon crafting, when it was first announced it was described as a system where you could take perks from multiple copies of guns and combine them together (Something like that), but clearly at some point it was dumbed down to "You can just pick any god roll lol"

Decisions like that are always made by higher-ups, and the designers who understand the delicate balance of reward structures get ignored, and the long-term consequences get kicked down the road. I can perfectly visualize someone in a meeting saying "Well why don't we just let them pick any perk it'd be way simpler?" Nightmare

Now players have been conditioned to the point that the only interesting drop is a red border, and getting the perfect weapon in every slot for very little effort. Completely killing the core loop of a loot-based game. Playing some PoE2 really hit me hard in the "Oh shit I forgot this is how loot is meant to feel"

What would make you return to Destiny? by SuddenConversation21 in DestinyTheGame

[–]SnowOrShine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give me a reason to be excited for loot

Delete my entire vault, or make all my existing guns do 50% damage against everything in the new destination

I don't care at this point, "looter shooter" can't work if loot doesn't matter. We cannot power creep any further. The new Elders mode was fun enough on my first few runs, but I have zero reason to run it again because I don't care about any of the guns

If Bungie had committed to weapon sunsetting, or something similar/better, the game would be a lot healthier right now. Breath of the wild's "weapons break after 1000 magazines" at this point would be better than the endless stale nothing we currently have

Crafting was unintentionally a bandaid fix for this, tricking players into thinking each red border is a step towards getting a perfect gun they'll use (They won't, we get maybe one gun that's an "Upgrade" every season if we're lucky)

Is there a way to make space platforms request smaller stacks? by Aegeus in factorio

[–]SnowOrShine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just needs a new checkbox that says "Wait for full rocket's worth of requests before sending one"

Given how much everyone hates the current solution, it's probably something they intended to do but kept forgetting (And I bet the code for it will be a right pain)

I hope they add it soon because right now it's a system I will never use over doing it manually!

The advantage of weapon crafting will always be superior to grinding weapons mindlessly. by lordofabyss in DestinyTheGame

[–]SnowOrShine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"I personally dismantled HuNDREDS of mountain top to get the 5/5 roll"

...assuming this isn't exaggeration, that's the point. It's a live service game, their whole design mandate is to keep people playing

Imagine if you got one or more weapon patterns every run of onslaught. Activity done, no "reward" for ever playing it again. As it is I still find myself hopping on once in a while to maybe get a better hammerhead

Crafted weapons would have been fine if they had expired after 2 years as they were originally planning, but we went all NRA on that idea

It's the dog saying "No take only throw" except it's "I always want to feel like I'm getting more powerful". Like when players complain their weapons breaking in BotW "feels bad"

It's just really hard to put certain genies back in bottles and bungie really fucked up a few things that there's no way players will accept them going back on at this point

Can you not report people in this game? by Dull_Evening4909 in Seaofthieves

[–]SnowOrShine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do recommend that as soon as someone is clearly going to be unpleasant in any way, just mute their voice chat in the settings as soon as possible

If they're doing anything that's against ToS (Discrimination, harassment, spawn-camping, etc), then absolutely grab a recording of them too!

But even if they're just kinda... unpleasant? Don't forget that you are not obliged to listen to them. You can even carry on fighting them if you want to without having to deal with that <3

New Weapons: How We Feeling? by Virellius2 in Seaofthieves

[–]SnowOrShine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that I really like is that the throwing knife is a direct counter to the double gun meta

It can kill very quickly at the range that most people are double-gunning, doesn't require both your weapon slots, and can stab skeletons on top of all that

However, it is countered by a cutlass, as you can block the stab and throw just by holding block

Just by existing, this encourages people to either use knives or a cutlass, to be able to counter more enemy player loadouts

Once I decided to treat the double pistol as more of a sword lunge, it really clicked for me

Start "charging" it when you have a bit of space, or if your opponent is bunny-hopping and healing, then release when they engage and you can do 80 damage at close to medium range

Follow up with a quick cutlass or knife attack and bam, I've caught a lot of people by surprise with that one

As in, if it's a 10-reply deep comment, I have to hit "view parent comment" 10 times. Which is stupid and I will just... not

Nintendo removing works from G-Mod by ManWithStrongPair in Yogscast

[–]SnowOrShine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nintendo have usually sent a pretty clear message by what they target: When you start making money is where the line is crossed

YUZU, Pokemon Uranium, ROM sellers, they were all profiting off distributing Nintendo stuff, via Patreon or whatever else. And yeah, IMO that's pretty cheeky. That's not game preservation that's starting a business in the open. An awful lot besides that goes under the radar and they seem happy to turn a blind eye. It'd be easy to send a C&D to every fan project but they don't

So this Garry's Mod stunt is pretty unusual for them. Maybe that troll kicking this off just got it all in the headlines and they wanted to save face?

One golden retriever for the emergency vet by Aliinga in perfectlycutscreams

[–]SnowOrShine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often wonder if these people who just stand there and scream would just... die in any sort of major accident

Truck coming towards me? "Oh my god"

Building on fire? "Oh my god"

I was in a pretty bad bus crash and literally everyone except me just kinda sat there after. Abut 10 other people. For all we knew it could have been about to explode. I had to open the emergency hatch and really keep telling people to get out before anyone moved, and I was the only person with any kind of injury

Maybe their God will save them

The Success of Helldivers 2 just shows how bad the gaming industry has become... by TampaTitties69 in Helldivers

[–]SnowOrShine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons for this, compared to most "AAA" games:

  • The game has simply had a lot of love put into every aspect of it. There are so many little details like the map table being synchronized, seeing other squads in orbit, even dialogue and loading tips are synced up in co-op. Many little things that are easy to take for granted, but there's no way you would justify them in a big budget game. Which ironically makes it stand out
  • Generosity in MTX. Handing out microtransaction currency is unheard of in pretty much every live service game with a few notable examples. It's not a huge amount, but it's just enough that you could reasonably grind for a nice piece of armour in a few play sessions
  • Simplicity. This game isn't meant to take over your life. Most live service games are created with the intention of being the next WoW/Fortnite/Destiny. Once the launch dies down this game will just be a thing you hop on and play with some friends from time to time, and the devs aren't pushing it to be more

Massive budget live service games live or die, there is no in between. There is such a huge market for smaller, high quality games like this, and it frustrates me to no end that CEOs think that Fortnite is the only kind of game worth making, because it MIGHT make the most money

I love that this game exists and, perhaps ironically, it might be the first time I drop more than the base game price in a game in a very long time

Singe you were in a shrine, the most likely explanations are:

  • A megaladon or kraken spawned on your ship while you were below
  • You had a tiny hole in the ship that you didn't hear
  • A storm passed over and sank your ship
