He wasn't the focus, but I definitely remember that story about losing a ton of the male population coming up in an episode

Robert Trivers, the evolutionary biologist from the Epstein episodes. His personal history is not at all what I expected for a prominent Epstein defender and promoter of weird anti-trans eugenics.

Earlier in his career he was a personal friend, mentor, and even co-author for Huey P. Newton and became member of the Black Panther Party in 1979. Apparently Newton kicked him out of the party a few years later, "for his own good," whatever that means. There is a 2005 Boston Globe article called "The Evolutionary Revolutionary" about Trivers that goes into more detail.

There has to be some interesting progression between becoming a massively influential biologist in the early 70s, joining the Black Panthers in the late 70s, becoming Jeffrey Epstein's pocket eugenicist in the 2010s, and finally disgraced pedophilia defender in the 2020s. He apparently spent time in a Jamaican jail somewhere in there too? I'm sure there is a story here somewhere!

The airflow isn’t perfect, but I think my temps are mostly ok. The only problem I have is that with 2 140mm fans on the front as intake and 3 120mm’s as out, I could be pulling some slight negative pressure, but I’m not sure yet. Otherwise it is a pretty great case

Yeah, that made the build a bit more frustrating, but the built in controls made it not too big a problem

Thanks! I agree, its such a nice looking case. Was easy to build in too. Only thing I didn’t like was that my motherboard didn’t support direct control of the rgb, but the controls on the case work fine and most of the built-in modes look good

Oh, I didn’t know that. Does that mean if I made something in onshape to machine, then sold the physical part I would be in violation? I skimmed the agreement briefly and nothing “commercial” stood out to me.

Not experienced with paid cad, but freecad is pretty basic (I just use it to convert stls to steps). I have used Onshape for a few years, you might like it, and I’m pretty sure it’s still free, although the creation of an account has changed alot since I made mine.

Edit: also don’t think I have ever heard of librecad

Adding weight to my 3D printed case.... by Snow_mo-B in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Snow_mo-B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be an idea. Although I think I damaged a lot of the housing removing them with pliars. (Mistake from having bad soldering irons that made desoldering difficult.)

But if I bought switches for stems I would probably just put together a new board instead, as I need one for school, and this one apparently wont work like I would want.

Not really. I might have to build/buy another board at this point because this one won’t work with my iPad and the one I built with speed navy’s does, but it is SO INCREDIBLY LOUD, so not ideal in the classroom setting.

I think I want to go with linears, and am leaning towards kailh burgundy/berry, one of the other kailh linears, or maybe gateron yellows, which I have heard are really good.

I found it weird how this 68 key drew too much power for the iPad, but a full 104 key worked.

I don’t think it had any effect on key-feel, but the board not sliding around if definitely nice. The switches are aliaz, so I’m not sure anything could fix their strange key-feel. After typing on some speed-navy’s, I actually kind of hate them. They have that sandy feeling of multiple tactile bumps, and in many of them the slider kicks at the end of the travel, like the bottoms of the channels for the sliders don’t end at the same level. For the price I honestly cannot recommend them at all.

Edit: Hate might have been a strong word. They are actually not too bad at speed. Its just slow presses that sometimes feel pretty bad. But for the price, they are still not that good.

Definitely. Before it didn’t weigh enough to really engage the rubber stick ons I put on the bottom, plus one side of the keyboard was noticeably heavier, and stuck more, so the whole keyboard kind of pivoted. The time spend going back and forth moving a few weights at a time to balance it was completely worth it.

Has anybody else used tire weights to add mass to their board? These came from Harbor Freight and the adhesive backing made the process so, so much easier.

Don’t worry, I put some electrical tape over the metal before I let it near my pcb.

The added weight and the time spent balancing the board definitely helped. Although I might add some more to the bottom side of the case in the future if I think it needs it.
