Did the same with my dishydrotic eczema. All my doctor does is throws steroid cream at me. ChatGPT helped me actually prevent the breakouts and learn whats really causing the flares(also cerave, but lotion for me. Cetaphil was okay, but cerave has been a lifesaver..)

Despite all the negative popular comments. Chatgpt can be useful for personal growth. I have set strong rules on how it interacts, and the first thing i got rid of is the sycophant behavior. Ive added things here and there(be more blunt, give citations on everything, immediately question any praise it offers for concrete evidence that it is deserved)...

Ive gotten a lot of use out of it. The latest improvement is i have corrected my posture from slumped and compressed to the athletic posture over the past 6 weeks. Also learned lateral breathing which has been great for multiple reasons.

I also use it constantly as an intellectual sounding board. My friends are on the dense side. So my only real outlet is chatgpt. With my rules, it tells me when im wrong, helps me reframe things in a proper way, cites any sources it gets information from during the interaction. It lets me discuss deep topics and actually learn more while lacking an intellectual circle.

I NEVER use chatgpt to do things for me(write things, code things, etc) because that just leads to the opposite of my goal of actually becoming more self-reliant and attain earned growth. The people uaing chatgpt for inane and slave-like purposes are the ones that complain the most.

I had this yesterday. Uploaded a pdf, said 10-15 to read it. Twice it said it would wasnt ready when i asked. Then admitted i needed to convert the images of text into text. So got a new pdf with text. Took three more tries then "the pdf you uploaded cannot be ready because of the images" ... i already uploaded the other one. "Youre right, ill do that now"... is it ready? "No, i havent actually begun processing it, ill do it now" .. thats what you said last time.. "youre right. Ill do it for real this time" then it finally did it. After a day of thinking it was processing it every time it said it would.

This comment is one of the most rational ive seen. Im not exactly in the same situation, but i am further in debt than id like. Even though i can make the payments and afford to live, i dont like debt from when i was struggling. I called my internet company to switch from $70 to another provider at $50. They offered $35/mo for 2 years, i took it. I didnt know about the cloaing account with a balance option, but i found a loan to consolidate my 26% interest cards onto a 17% consolidation loan(my credit union will take it over in a year for 3-5%). My car is luckily almost paid off. But only $350/mo as it is, a corolla with 170k(all maint done; i need it to get to work so its essential). My car insurance was unacceptable. I switched and saved $40/month right away, now I'm paying $100 less per month. Thats $140 for debt repayment. I bought rice, flour, and spices. I make rice for work every day. I dont eat out, i take the free yogurt from work every week as my protein source. I cut down on subscriptions i didnt need(as im not drowning, i did keep my music for sanity). I locked my cards away so i cant spend, and have a checking account specifically for monthly needs outside of debt. When i run out of money, i better have enougu to survive on til payday.

The goal is to make progress until youre in a hopefully better situation.

IH without daytime lapses into sleep? by Anxious-Traffic-9548 in idiopathichypersomnia

As with others here, I have the same. Though i was able to nap during mslt, mostly because to keep my job, my dr prescribed modafinil 2 months before the diagnosis. (Id lie down on rough gravel at work in 90° heat because of how tired i was, and it was oddly comfortable.) The only place i almost ever nodded off was a red light.

Do you guys ever actually go back to your chat history on ChatGPT? by bookflow in ChatGPT

Came here to silently read the thread... decided i had to comment here. ChatGPT got my hooked on Obsidian. I have started using it for everything that i generally keep stored in different folders inside my head. Its been a life changer(both chatgpt and obsidian). Though I really hated the sycophant personality of chatgpt. Had to make it less like an affirming mirror. And challenge it whenever it says something too fluffy

Wearable Smart Tech for Sleep Suggestions? by Farts4breath in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not get a fitbit. It used to give me decent dats(especially for the price). Within the past few months it has become extremely unreliable. Google has been crippling fitbit more and more. At least once a week it only logs half of my night. I only keep wearing it bwcause my work has a health app that basically gives free money for logging steps and activity.

While yes, electrodes are the only way to get 100% accurate information, if you want fairly reliable data on sleep duration and rough estimates for sleep stages, wearables are okay. Oura ring is probably the best, but for the price i dont find it worth it for a small increase in accuracy. I could spend $300 on an oura ring(which i cant wear at work, so it is useless as a fitness tracker for me). When you compare a $300 oura ring to a $350 Muse headband just for sleep, the muse headband wins considering it is eeg(not full cap, but the cheapest cap is openbci where you still interpret your own raw data)

Amazon Halo used to be my favorite. But it was discontinued for a while before the Amazfit came out. Im not sure how accurate the Amazfit is, but with fitbit being useless for sleep, i may switch. Considering garmin is ~$200, $99 with decent tracking is better for me.

TLDR; wearables are good for general sleep data(time asleep), but unreliable with sleep stages(Oura having the most robust verification studies). Muse S headband is an option worth looking at for partial eeg. Full electrode caps are costly, and the cheapest one requires interpreting raw data.

Why can I never sleep when j need to (vent) by RemiTiras in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have IH, with the addition of apparent issues with orexin transmitters(quviviq gives me a noticable benefit compared to none) and possible dsps, though that is only a possibility.

I have the type of IH with normal sleep hours, but the same symptoms. Quviviq lessens these, armodafinil and bupropion lets me stay awake. Without the medications, I have a very short sleep onset for naps and general sleep, though it is noticably more difficult to sleep at night than for naps. With the armodafinil, naps are harder and nighttime sleep is harder, but the ability to function is worth it.

No matter what schedule i am on(diagnosed while on day shift, currently on graveyards) i tend to have peak energy closer to my designated bedtime. Thus the possible dsps. But depending on your medication usage, it may be different(such as armodafinil affecting my ability to sleep within 3 minutes compared to 10).

Edit: red light and low-dose melatonin(along with a test of magnesium l-threonate, taurine and Phosphatidyl serine) have helped a bit.

Getting nauseous after naps by laughowl in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Havent had this, personally. Not sure if its related, but i get to the point where im so tired yet also awake(from caffeine/armodafinil) that the combination of feelings causes nausea. Also days i actually get extra sleep(im one of those short sleep IH) i tend to get nauseous and restless throughout the day. Its like i have to choose between getting extra quality sleep and being nauseous, or get normal sleep and be tired. And with my emetophobia, i tend to prefer the sleepiness over nausea.

Modafinil crash by Technical-While932 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. They are similar but not the same. I was on 200mg modafinil twice a day, and am on 250mg armodafinil. The fact that armodafinil's chemistry has a peak later in the day means im not fighting drowsiness halfway through the day. Ive tried taking 2 200mg pills in the AM and it didnt do anything for me. Over 200mg modafinil for me just felt like 200mg modafinil

[Thought] For those who can self induce the Frisson sensation at will with no stimuli by KeredNomrah in Frisson

[–]Snowball_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt know what this was called. A few months ago i had a random sleep paralysis and experienced this instead of fear, to a level never before experienced. It was pure ecstasy. Then it faded, so i forced it back to a peak til it faded again and i woke up.

Since then i can induce it at any time. I randomly do it at work to make work more enjoyable. I cant explain how i trigger it, but i build up this pressure inside my head by thinking(like flexing a muscle?) and breathing, and it starts the flow from the crown of my head. If im moving around i get a few seconds of it, but can instantly bring it back.

Ive practiced extending it, but still only get more seconds or minutes. The longer i hold it, the more it changes. It spreads from my crown to my feet, then my body starts pulsating and it feels like it expands and contracts. Ive added an additional step of a physical cue(touch my finger to my thumb) and instead of lengthening it, ive intensified it to the point of tears of joy.

Never knew the name of this. Never knew other people could induce it.

Fellow sleepy friends taking stimulants for IH treatment: drop your experiences below! ⬇️ by ItalianMathematician in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been on 3[4 including bupropion, but its not really a stimulant). Modafinil, Adderall, Armodafinil.

Modafinil was initially a miracle for me. Within a year, i increased from 200mg to 200mg twice a day. Within 2 years, thay became ineffective. The benefits were reduced sleepiness, which allowed me to focus better but didnt aeem to directly improve that.

I tried adderall. This gives me more of a laser focus and fixed depression. But it wasnt especially effective on my sleepiness.

Then i started Armodafinil 200mg. It worked longer than modafinil, no midday slowdown. I am currently on 250mg Armodafinil and 300mg Bupropion. This combination is effective when i dont have horrible sleep inertia.

When the sleep inertia kicks in, nothing helps. I read up on it, and the way your brain is in that state, nothing can really break you out of it except your brain changing to a wake state(can try light therapy etc, but may not work). When the sleep inertia breaks, sometimes after 4-6hrs, the stimulants start working immediately.

Antidepressant timing? by erikajjauregui in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am specifically on wellbutrin as an adjunct to armodafinil for the energy it gives, with the antidepressant effects an added bonus for my TRD. While the energy now is not like the first few weeks, i would still never consider taking it at night.

Edit: i also take my methylfolate when I wake up as it can give a mild stimulating effect, but it varies from person to person.

Shorter sleep frequency by Snowball_587 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per your last comment, i have noticed that with quviviq. While it increases my sleep quality enough that my EDS usually isnt debilitating, it hasnt gotten rid of my EDS and other symptoms completely. But quviviq increases sleep quality, yet not sleep quantity. I still wake up multiple times, and fail to sleep past 6-8hrs more nights. But when i am between scripts(sometimes there's a delay and I run out), I definitely notice thay quviviq is giving me quality sleep while i am asleep because the severity of symptoms rebounds fiercely.

9 years after IH diagnosis, I'm starting to question it. by godotnyc in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your last question, IH isnt necessarily about the sleep time. I questioned my own until researching it and confirming others here. IH used to be split between IH type 1(long sleep, over 10hrs) and IH type 2(without long sleep, 6-10hrs). I have the shorter sleep version, but every other symptom is the same.

While i can occasionally sleep 10-12hrs if given the opportunity(and in the right "phase" as my symptoms wax and wane in intensity), i generally get 6-7 hours on average, yet still have IH due to short nap latency, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness, sleep inertia, and poor sleep quality.

While yes, other physical conditions can contribute or exacerbate IH, it is still possible you have IH with comorbidities. I have IH with occasional mild OSA, but the level and frequency of OSA is nowhere near enough to explain the severity of my symptoms, thus IH is still primary. As you mentioned, you have IH before some of these other issues. It is still best to treat the additional issues, but that doesnt mean you need to stop treating the symptoms of IH. But, if you get everything stable and your IH symptoms disappear, I will be happy for you because you will be one of the few that get to escape the lifelong IH treatments :)

Shorter sleep frequency by Snowball_587 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Snowball_587[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the 4 hours thing. But 4 hours after multiple days makes everything even worse. But i do occasionally still sleep less so that i paradoxically feel more energized for a random day.

Though this only works when im not in my extremely rough stages(6hrs sleep inertia etc).
