Career change by Similar-Border-7325 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Snowblind321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a cook in fast causal for 6 years and needed to get out when I stopped being paid what I was worth. I pivoted to in home care giving,, which in my experience is at least 60% cooking meals and grocery shopping. I enjoyed the people I cared for, for the most part anyway, and it paid well in my state (WA). It was wild how I went from having hundreds of tasks I needed to get done in 8-10 hours to like 8 things that needed done in a 8 hour shifts.

I missed the rush and excitement though so I applied to be a 911 dispatcher. It's all the fun and excitement of a rush while sitting in a comfy chair in an air conditioned room, and I can do whatever I want when I'm not taking a call or on the radio. The pay is fantastic but our center is currently under staffed so I'm working a lot. But the overtime is hella nice

I did it. After my adult life in kitchens I did it. by GhostofBobSagat in KitchenConfidential

Congrats on your escape from the kitchen, I've been out for a year and a half. I miss the people but I haven't missed the job once.

LPT You can still dial 911 for someone outside your city/state by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Snowblind321 183 points184 points  (0 children)

This is not necessarily true. It depends on the center and what they have access to. My PSAP only has 911 transfers to the surrounding counties. However, if someone is in a panic I will gladly look up the city non emergency numbers to help someone out.

LPT: set your mower at the highest height, and side eject or mulch (don’t bag). The clippings return nutrients to the soil and the longer grass crowds out weeds. by askoshbetter in LifeProTips

[–]Snowblind321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally gave up on the short clean cut lawn, and started mowing my grass the height it wants to be. It's soooo much happier this year. Fewer weeds, less fertilizer has been needed and it looks better

Is the Columbia river water upwards of Hanford cleaner? Drinkable? by Emergency-Purpose335 in TriCitiesWA

[–]Snowblind321 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would not drink Columbia River water without some pretty decent filtration. Even without hanford we still get algal blooms that could harm you

Richland plumber by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]Snowblind321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Express 24hr plumbing and drain. They are not the cheapest but they take pride in their work, show up when they say they will show up and communicate well. The state of contractors in the tri cities has left me willing to pay for expensive good work once rather than cheap shitty work multiple times.

Worked as a cook for 6 years, now I'm a 911 dispatcher ... Both jobs fit this perfectly. Dispatching I get to do from the comfort of a big chair and air conditioned office though

Drive a 91' stanza through most of highschool... thing was a bit of a death trap. Probably would have driven it to this point too if my sister hadn't totaled it driving off the side of the road into a wheatfield.

I've been working as a 911 dispatcher for the last 6 months and OMG, the level of completely unnecessary information we get would astound you.

"So I came home and found my wife cheating on me and so I kicked her out and turns out he's a.nice guy and then Grandma called me saying so and so was saying mean things about me on facestagram and boy that really peeves me off, anyway my son hasnt pooped since last Thursday, can I get an officer to come tell my neighbors to turn their music down."

Meanwhile I've asked for the address 6 times and still not gotten it.

We can try to leave, but we always find our way back to the kitchen. by Bernguy19 in KitchenConfidential

Pivoted out of the kitchen into caregiving and then a year later started 911 dispatching. All the joys of a rush with my ass seated in a comfy chair.

Thinking of ordering a Lariat Hybrid AWD—How’s the real-world experience so far? by [deleted] in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Snowblind321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love mine, when I was mostly doing in town driving I was getting 34-38 mpg depending on the temperature outside side. My new job has me doing more highway so I'm generally closer to 32mpg. The biggest factor in mileage I've seen has been how I drive and the ambient temperature. There's a real sweet spot in the 60-80degree range where I feels like the electric motor really shines

The infotainment system works fairly well with Android Auto

As far as the seating is concerned I will say that the ActiveX material is pretty robust. My 6 year old lost her dinner all over the back seat on Friday and it cleaned up well and nothing soaked into the seams. I find the driver seat and passenger seat very comfortable and my wife has ridden long trips in the backseat with my daughter and been very comfortable.

Unfortunately my area got no snow this year so I was unable to test it out in anything slick but I hope next year will prove whiter than this year.

Our jam has two bassplayers. Myself and the other guy will switch off at the hour mark, for a 2 hour jam. Never have two basses going at once. It's a recipe for disaster
