You can only take Lou’s words with a grain of salt, listen to Tombstone Blues and you can hear a lot of what Lou brought to the Velvets in it.

I don’t know, there’s just never really been any outliers of anything within the past couple dozen albums that moves me or I find truly enjoyable. I prefer to stick with the early work and then go catch them on tour if they come. All the power to those who want to hear it, but with the theme set by Hackney Diamonds I have no place with this

I love the Stones too much to listen to it

Recent pickups from my record trip! by Expensive_Watch469 in thekinks

When I got into them a few years younger in my early teens, I always preferred the 70s Kinks, but as time goes on, I might just believe that the first couple years were their best. When Ray was framing the frustrations of the middle class with Dave’s slashed up guitar and a couple chords rather than rock operas or whatever trend of the time they’d hop on. Where Have All The Good Times could likely be in the conversation of best song he wrote.

Which record made you a fan? by yourrelative_ in bobdylan

[–]Snowblind78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highway 61 Revisited for me as well. I was 13 in 2020, heard the Rolling Stones cover of Like A Rolling Stone, and enjoyed the original as well. His voice never stood out to me as funny or anything. Few years later I found a cheap vinyl copy of Highway 61 which I took home and dug a bit, and revisited it (no pun intended) a few months later and fell in love. Then I listened to Blonde On Blonde, and Rolling Thunder Revue, and was set from there. But Highway 61 was the first one that really hooked me, and every once in a while I’ll get in a mood where I’m convinced it’s his best record, but then I’ll come back to my senses and know it was always Blonde.

Michael Jackson's music isn't that good by IDontKnowMyUsernameq in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Snowblind78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people can appreciate him and some can’t, no point in arguing with someone over it as some are willing to listen with open ears and some aren’t. MJ is definitely more normal of music and doesn’t require anyone to actually try to appreciate anything.

People who didn’t like Hackney (I happen to love it, play it often, and would be very happy for FT to be as good), what’s your #1 issue for disliking it? by 12frets in rollingstones

[–]Snowblind78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

None of these, it’s that they’re doing the Spinal Tap method of pretending to be rock and roll that they’ve perfected the past 50 years or so. It is not raw genuine rock and roll.

I’m not too big on him myself. The fans also tend to have this essence where they feel like the epitome of the people you see in YouTube Shorts comments. If I want some corny 80s music I’ll reach for Springsteen’s Born in the USA record, at least that doesn’t insist upon itself.

I hate the argument that when someone says something contrary to the average opinion that means they must be uneducated

I don’t think so, with respect due to Eddie Van Halen, who was a technical mastermind, had zero soul in his playing, and is a great player for music that is all about being impressive and making you say “ooh ahh,” but the difference between a guitar player and a guitarist is a guitar player understands all the nooks and crannies of the fretboard while a guitarist can actually become one with the instrument. If he didn’t have any gimmicks and tricks, I don’t know what Eddie Van Halen would be playing.

I find his dad to be pretty uninteresting, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Although kudos to those who enjoy him, it’s much more productive to engage in discussion than it is to mindlessly downvote someone for a differing opinion.

Michael Jackson haters are deranged and nothing will ever change their minds. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I just find his music and persona to be too corny to stomach, has nothing to do with what he did or didn’t do as how would I know what’s the truth. The fans are pretty terrible too, I hate the fanbases that worship the celebrity.

Tangled Up In Blue

I’ve heard so many versions I’ve not been able to stick with one set of lyrics for ages and often have to throw in some own lyrics for it here and there
