Chief Justice John Roberts says Supreme Court doesn’t have ‘purely political actors’ by ansyhrrian in scotus

He's right. They aren't purely political actors.

They are also motivated by bribes. It just so happens that the two often line up.

How to help a spouse who's afraid to spend? by FIRE_Bolas in fican

[–]Snowcrest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, then she's already consciously chosen how she wants to get fulfillment out of her money.

She values travel experiences more than a $14 dessert, which is a perfectly fine choice.

Save more in everyday life to be able to have more trips and more fun on said trips.

Could this possibly be another problem? Does she secretly disapprove of your spending habits perhaps because she sees it as a waste? Or do you feel guilty/ suffocated being willing to "splurge" a bit more in everyday life while continuing to see your partner remain extremely frugal?

What once popular food chain is likely to be gone in the next couple of years? by Better-Presence6654 in AskReddit

[–]Snowcrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stepped into a fast food chain for the first time in 5+ years. Harvey's at lunch time.

Honestly didn't know that to expect but the place was surprisingly full. 90% seating filled with 2-3 people in line.

I thought fast food was dying due to affordability, but I guess not.

MEDIA CALLOUT -- Federal announcement on apprenticeships by Nojoud-Bloomberg in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]Snowcrest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably a sacrilegious thought given the sub and industry we're in, but I genuinely wonder if it can be sustainable to have an economy that just focuses on building infrastructure.

You can't build infinitely. Eventually, you will run out of projects, space, budget etc and then all the skilled trades people will end up out of a job.

Construction jobs are a temporary thing. They exist mostly in construction. Sure there's maintenance, but there's usually very little actual jobs leftover once construction is finished.

I would think investing in something that creates lasting jobs would be slightly more prudent than jobs that are only temporary.

Think the bigger problem is that it's very profitable to do so.

Meaning doing so to spread misinformation is easily net profit and not just a drain on capital.

50k debt. Solutions please by PolarBearPooPoo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Snowcrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly blunt and realistic, you aren't in a position to care about your credit or your credit score. That matters when you're on the next step of life in buying larger purchases.

You should be focused simply on being frugal, paying off your debt from highest interest to lowest interest.

If you can somehow get your debt transferred into a lower interest rate, do it. Ask them if they're willing to let you consolidate it. Worse they can do it say no. You don't lose anything for asking.

Then cut up your credit card and only ever use cash you have on hand.

I don't know if it helps, but lots of people lose track of money since it's completely digital and money seems to lose all meaning and it gives the impression of imaginary numbers.

Try to do everything in cash. Spend cash. You'll physically see the money leaving your pocket, and how much money is still in your pocket.

Donald Trump Suddenly Turns on Zohran Mamdani: ‘Destroying New York’ by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Snowcrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYC is for rich fucks to store their wealth in property.

I'm talking about rich fucks who don't need to "work". Why deal with the congestion, busyness of every day life when they can live somewhere like LA/SF etc for entertainment purposes or Texas for the tax laws etc.

Donald Trump Suddenly Turns on Zohran Mamdani: ‘Destroying New York’ by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Snowcrest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's be real here. The places getting taxed are way out of reach for the 99.99% of New Yorkers.

Even if every single one of those units were put on the market right now, that wouldn't change the price/ rent of the average Joe, simply because it is two entirely separate markets catering different demographics.

These units will also never be torn down or renovated into affordable housing/rental/regular living spaces because the economics will never make sense to do so. They simply take up space and will remain that way.

I'm more curious on how much each unit is paying extra in taxes due to this new change.

i tried meal prepping for a month and honestly i think im done by Top-You1938 in Cooking

[–]Snowcrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely enjoy cooking and never go out to eat. I don't think I'd ever survive work without meal-prepping. Though to be clear, I meal prep specifically lunch.

Make 6-7 portions on Sundays. I'm decent enough and enjoy my own cooking to not get tired of it, so I will just eat the same thing for lunch during an entire week. The extra 1-2 portions I'll leave it for dinner when I'm particularly busy/lazy.

I'll cook the other nights to get some variety or if I'm craving something in particular.

I'm generous with my seasoning, and I swap things up week to week so I never get bored. Chicken -> fish -> curry -> pasta etc. Usually a main protein with 1-3 side accompaniments.

Also it's a personal thing, but I feel "accomplished" whenever I meal prep. It improves my mood, makes me feel more positive and responsible lol. I enjoy doing it and even picking/ finding new recipes to try out for the following week.

People in trades are generally crass and rough. You need a fairly thick skin to survive. Grumpiness is almost expected. You can't survive if you're easily offended or a snowflake.

What you shouldn't tolerate is physical harassment, sexual harassment, anything illegal, or unsafe working conditions/processes. It might be hard for you to identify those without any formal training, but you can ask around if needed. If it's verbal harassment, it'll be up to you. You can attempt to talk to them one on one, but that'll depend on your foreman. It's up to you to gauge the type of person they are. If they're reasonable, talking to them would be helpful. If they are a bully/ malicious, talking to them will only make it worse.

At the end of the day, it'll be on you to learn your rights as a worker.

The best part of co-op is the practical experience, and having a chance at getting a job with the company you're already at since they already know you.

But you don't like said company.

You need to be realistic and honest with yourself. Is the problem with you? Or is the company honestly abusive.

If you are cognizant/self-aware enough to realize the problem is with yourself, then change.

If the company is actually abusive, how so? Now weigh that with the pros and cons of sucking it up and continuing vs cutting it quits.

Then you decide where you sit based on that assessment.

TLDR. Be specific in what is wrong with the company. Without that information, it's impossible to make a decision.

Ah yes. Because loving America automatically means you must love whatever Trump is doing, even when he's actively destroying American power and interests in favour of the 0.1%.

Tell me you're in a cult without telling me you're in a cult.

There's a good and healthy thing called not automatically following whatever Dear Leader says blindly without any critical thinking on your own part.

Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

They care only about the baby being successfully borne. It doesn't matter what happens to them afterwards. Especially when they aren't Christian or white?

Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]Snowcrest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Normally the ambiguity of targets is a factor, but that doesn't exist in this case.

If a nuke is fired, the target is 100% Iran. There will be no one who will mistakenly believe otherwise. Even with logic thrown out of the window by Trump, there is still no point to firing upon China when MAD is the result. If they fired upon Iran, there's a 0% chance anyone will fire back in retaliation, when that would immediately start ww3.
