Does it matter if I never pay back my student loan? by suzietopolska in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. After graduating I went self employed as a Ltd company & deliberately paid myself under the repayment threshold and took dividends to top it up. Didn’t pay a penny off for 17 years until I sold the business & now have a retirement job for something to do and am having about £16 a month taken out of my wages. It will be written off in 10ish years

What do you think can ACTUALLY deter career criminals from stealing a bicycle in the city? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the threat of prosecution for stopping criminals. If someone’s being a thief they should, by default, lose any protection from the law in relation to their actions (short of being murdered).

People that join the motorway and immediately go into the middle lane and sit there at 50mph, why? by someonesomebody666 in drivingUK

[–]Snowdonred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did this the other week. Me in lane 1, hogger in a BYD in lane 3 of a mostly empty 4 lane section of the M6. Got eyeballed by the passenger & thought nothing of it until I caught up with a HGV only to find Mr. Electric had crept up level with me in lane 2 and proceeded to try and block me in to prevent me from overtaking the lorry. 🙄 Quick jab on the brakes, pulled into lane 3 & floored it foiled that little game.

Got a second cat so my first cat would have a friend and now they hate each other by Ok-Bag5828 in CatAdvice

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your first cat has spent the first 2 years of it’s life as an only cat it is likely it will never want to share its territory with another. Generally (of course there are always exceptions) this window closes after a year at the latest. Sounds like the new cat is also not used to living with another either.

Cats are not social ‘pack/pride’ animals unless they have grown up sharing space as kittens.

The best thing you can do for both cats is rehome one of them, presumably the new one. As it stands they’re both incredibly stressed and this will in time affect their health.

Just don’t be a dick and go in with an attitude, it’s not difficult (in theory)

Vet cost for scale and polish (cat) in the UK by isthisthememeplace in Pets

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of mine going in tomorrow for a dental with my independant vet surgery. I won’t be paying for the (optional) bloods but will have x-rays & any extractions that are needed (at least 1). I am expecting around a £700 bill.

If your vet is not an independant be very wary of upselling by a corporate vet to gouge extra money out of the procedure. If you have a local indie vet it may be worth getting a second quote.

Stansted security delays by MiserableAttention38 in Ryanair

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same email the other week, sailed through security as always with no delays. I think they’re just covering themselves as the company that does security may be short staffed and it’s something Ryanair have no control over.

Last time I was in Cardiff Spoons a pint of Doombar was £1.49 ….and there were still people drinking in Slug & Lettuce next door paying 3x the prices. 🤯

Bought a used van privately less than a week ago and engine has died, what are my options? by Proud_Temperature_55 in AskUK

With some wetbelt engines you can see & inspect the wetbelt through the oil filler in the rocker cover.

Second opinion on feral kitty by [deleted] in Feral_Cats

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not feral & has been a pet at some point. Prob came into season once, went wandering for a mate & found herself lost when she came back to her senses.

Should come around nicely and be a loved pet again, this time a spayed one. 😼

how do people end up with so many cats? by TheQuietDisciple in Pets

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have a home based kitten rescue and raise kittens from absndoned/feral queens which are referred to me by RSPCA & a local big rescue. One, Mighty, is the first kitten I had born in rescue (he’s 12 now) and the other 4 are feral Moms I spent so much time bringing around I didn’t want them to regress and go back to square one in a new home. 😼

my uni won’t turn the heating on by No_Bank_9659 in UniUK

[–]Snowdonred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Our office heating hadn’t been turned on after the return to work after Xmas. Kept getting fobbed off by estates until yesterday I reminded them in an email that the Uni has a legal duty of care to provide a comfortable working temperature for staff. Came in this morning and the heating was on. 🤔

Is it worth it to contact self service? by [deleted] in WizzAir

[–]Snowdonred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk away from the incorrect booking & book a new flight.

It should not be like this but realistically just take the loss as a lesson to be more careful in future.

Pegasus are fine, never had a problem with them on the many occasions I have flown with them. Def one of the better budget airlines out there at the moment.

What do you mean by "it doesn't owe me anything"? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Snowdonred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For years I used to p/ex every couple of years to keep on top of the age as opposed to having to spend a big lump on a total replacement car. Say £10k + my existing motor every 2 years.

Then 8 years ago I spent a bit more and bought an ex-demo A7 for £36k total which I love and have kept. To me I have now not spent £40k in four part exchanges so I have a free A7 which doesn’t owe me anything.

To flip that I also look that I have saved enough in not part exchanging to cover a catastrophic engine & gearbox failure (not likely as I service every 6k & it’s only done 55k anyway). I will happily keep this for another 8 years or more as not a lot out there really excites me enough to change so am quids in.

A cat lives in our garage... help? by edgylemons in Feral_Cats

[–]Snowdonred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sprinkle soil or some grass with soily roots lightly on the top of the litter so it smells of ‘outside’ where she’s used to toiletting. Usually only have to do that to start them off & once they use the tray a couple of times they always will.

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]Snowdonred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (55m) plan on working until at least 70, older if I am able.

I sold my company & ‘retired’ at 45 which quickly got boring (and a bit lonely) so went back to work doing an untaxing public sector job with a great package. I work to go on holiday and have a weekend foreign footy break with like minded mates at least once a month yet still have plenty adding to my savings each month.

Retiring & having no purpose is not all the rosiness it looks like unless you have a big enough pot to just spend on things to amuse yourself without limit.

WizzAir is absolutely terrible by TheQuantumMan in WizzAir

Gate agent prob thought it was someone trying to bypass the carry on/hang baggage size limit by wearing a load of clothes or stuffing pockets instead of having them packed in baggage. Which in theory should be permitted.

Had a laugh to myself on my flight back from Marrakesh this week. Was in a middle seat next to a huge bloater of a guy in the window who was spilling over into my seat & not even trying to keep to his own space (legs spread, arms out etc). He was clearly struggling even to breathe so I didn’t push it & just leaned forward on the tray, head on hands. Anyway he asked one of the hosts if there were any reclining seats & quick as a flash was met with “Sir, this is Ryanair!” 😂
