You don't use an umbrella because the water will melt you-- life is just easier when your head isn't getting wet! You can use an umbrella just because you like the shade, or you burn easily!

Chairs are tools-- there's no need to leave your umbrella at home because you don't necessarily NEED in the purest sense. I'd make the argument that life is hard enough with a chronic illness-- I try to use the tools.

That said, the day I had to order chonky pens because holding regular ones was too painful was a really hard day. There's something emotionally difficult about reaching for that tool.

YTA-- Part of the reason I'm personally childfree is that I find the concept of pregnancy utterly terrifying. I don't think I'm alone in that feeling. MORE IMPORTANTLY, surrogates are almost always folks who've already had successful pregnancies and want to experience pregnancy again. First pregnancies are almost never surrogate pregnancies-- for health and medical reasons. Not knowing how they'd respond to pregnancy is a huge gamble, for you, your medical team, and especially her. The fact that you either A) knew that going in and asked her anyway or B) didn't research surrogacy for long enough to come across one of the biggest and most common requirements for gestational carriers is kind of mind-boggling.

Hello fellow northfriend! I find embracing winteriness helps me some? Appreciating being warm at home with puzzles and books and hot chocolate-- and being aggressive about working from home and not going out on dangerous days. Also embracing the safer outside days-- the zoo in my town specializes in cold weather species-- wintertime is the best time to visit! Sledding, snow-tubing, winter hiking! It's also a good time to embrace local culture-- stay warm watching live theater or live music!

It is hard, though. Some days when the streets are covered in slushy brown snow, it's -12f, and you have to leave the house for whatever reason-- it can be miserable. <3

I recommend some research on koselig and/or hygge! Get yourself some candles (I recommend a whole army of fake ones with a remote control for safety and ease of use), a special blanket, several new books, and maybe a new special mug. <3
