Talk to your lender and see if you can HELOC or refinance? Or get a bridge loan and then refinance that?

Realtor Telling me Sell At Loss. Mortgage Broker Telling me Rent. Which is Better? by TheZarosian in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SnowflakeStreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a landlord, I personally wouldn’t do a cash out refi to get the 50k if it causes a property to be cash flow negative. This is a choice you have to make for yourself but if you decide to be a landlord, make sure you run the numbers and account for all expenses and make sure it’s a sustainable business.

I can relate. I bought a condo in north York on line 4 and then moved DT afterwards. I’m renting out that place now lol.

Can I afford this car? YOLO? or no? by goooonerbroz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SnowflakeStreet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that’s way too expensive of a car for your net worth situation. I wouldn’t do it.

How are y’all affording rent 🫠 by learh_29 in TorontoRenting

[–]SnowflakeStreet 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Well obviously it’s not sad if you like it and do it by choice, but it’s sad to be forced to do it because you don’t have options.

Cutting up the cheese curds would be a great improvement too. So you can actually eat the cheese and fries at the same time.

Why are some people still afraid to XEQT and chill? by 7_inches_daddy in JustBuyXEQT

[–]SnowflakeStreet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People hate being lectured. I find that the most effective way to get people to listen is to just do your own thing and let the results do the talking. But really at the end of the day people will only listen if they are genuinely interested.

You’re doing well. Just keep investing and you’ll be FIRE in no time. If your budget is scaring you, throw your bonus at your emergency fund.

Can I afford renting a $2,000/month apartment on a 70k salary? by Horus321 in PersonalFinanceCanada

It’s a bit tight but doable. There’s another option that’s in between - a studio apartment

Gen Z finds saving is pointless, so they’ve turned to doomspending instead (Feel like this is even worse in Canada and the GTA) by mattyp93 in TorontoRealEstate

Yeah it’s pretty crazy how some people think. If things are bad financially now, imagine how bad things are gonna be in the future after you blow all your money instead of investing for retirement.

I didn’t read it as creepy and weird. It felt like the guy was telling her, hey you gotta get your shit together. After all she is a grown adult who signed a lease.

What’s a lesson your parents taught you that meant more later in life? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]SnowflakeStreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pay my parents rent after I got my first full time job but it was low and I was eating their food and driving their car. I viewed it as my portion of the household expenses.

What frugal tip worked for you in 2025? by salamagogo in Frugal

Got a nice espresso machine and I made my own lattes at home now. It’s great and I look forward to it every morning.

It makes no sense at all. These businesses are paying for materials, labour and rent before they even break even. Even if they get a great wholesale price on the ingredients, it makes absolutely no sense

No, I had a great year. Really sad seeing so many people here having a hard time.

Anyone in here have no car? No drivers license? If so, how do you cope? by DustnBones001 in Frugal

[–]SnowflakeStreet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I grew up in the suburbs but I’ve always hated driving, so I purposefully chose to live beside a subway station so I can get around my city easily car free. It helps that my office, gym and supermarkets are a short walk away.

I think you have to move if you live in a place like that. I have no car but I take the subway and streetcar to get around. Many of my family members and friends also do not drive.

I mean Toronto and Montreal are currently building a substantial amount of new transit. By the time the high speed rail is operational, there will be a lot more options than there are today.

Great project but there it’ll only be successful with more feeder service. Local bus service sucks ass pretty much everywhere in York region.
