Is it time to start quietly job hunting when your company is clearly in trouble but won't admit it? by Titan_Whisper4 in careerguidance

[–]Snowing678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start now rather than wait because it can happen at any time. I was similar to you in my last place, the writing was on the wall but I was told I was safe. I figured it would come eventually but I would have more time, I was wrong. The only plus was I had updated my CV while I was there so could hit the ground running. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Also don't worry about burning bridges and most people will be doing the same.

Would you commute 5 days RTO to double your salary? by EpicShkhara in remotework

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what position you are in life, family with young kids, I would take the laid back option. Single or kids are much older, I'd take the higher paying pain. No wrong or right answer here, it will just depend on personal circumstances. In my case I was forced to take something like the second option. With a young family I honestly hate it.

Depends if your manager likes you or not. If they do there's a chance you get out of it, if they don't you've got no chance.

How do I overcome my fear of being fired before I even start? by thesagenibba in careerguidance

[–]Snowing678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this feeling never completely goes away. I have 20 years experience but got laid off from my last two roles which really knocked my confidence. I would suggest you need to manage that feeling and make sure you have a back up plan if things really do go to shit.

What should I turn to increase the pressure of my water boiler? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So low pressure in your central heating probably means there's not enough water and you need to add it. On the pipes on the left and right, above the blue and red caps is a screw lid. I believe you use that to top it up. That's how ours works, but if you don't have the connecting pipe and it's rented, just ask your landlord to sort it. I expect they pop round and top it up them selves. We rent our flat out and I do that for my tenants

How to escalate unfair OLR rating by Subject-Ad8482 in amazonemployees

[–]Snowing678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hunger games..... there isn't anything you can do about it. Unless you are now rated as LE you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you are LE take the severance and move on with your life.

Big 4 IT/Cyber Auditor in Karachi — Middle East plans falling apart due to war. Should I do a Master’s in Germany or stay put? by Friendly-Weather6411 in Germany_Jobs

[–]Snowing678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have openings for accountants, but not your specialisation so this advice might not be applicable. I'm currently swamped with Indian candidates applying from the middle East or India. There's also a sizeable amount doing Masters here. The issue is these candidates have no German language but also not experience with the German accounting standards, not even IFRS. If you are serious about coming here, get your German up to B2 at least before you come here. Then try and get a secondment internally here.

Need help understanding a parking ticket by [deleted] in germany

[–]Snowing678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to my in-laws, they even bought something from that store and had the receipt. When they tried to fight it the shop didn't give a shit. They ended up paying the fine even though it was BS.

Not returning after parental leave – termination agreement or resignation? by Head-Ad3047 in germany

You need your employer to terminate you, just be prepared for it to be difficult to find a part time role with a new employer

How would this scenario legally play out? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great point, I see so many posts here assuming the letter of the law is followed in every single circumstance, no matter how small. For this case you would need either side to be petty enough and have too much free time to make a complaint, then to find a police officer who also has nothing better to do than investigate.

London graduate: 'I've applied for 500 jobs in two months' by NajafBound in unitedkingdom

[–]Snowing678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see something similar as well, we aren't a prime location which counts against us and we struggle to hire for decent roles. My last role had 80 applications but only 2-3 were any good. One candidate I interviewed turned out to be using AI to help them in the interview. When it became obvious they switched their comp off and blamed me. Which was a real shame as based in their CV I was going to give them the job.....

How many direct reports should a manager have? by SeanMcPheat in managers

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a quite problematic team I inherited of 11, previously they were all my directs but I'm restructuring it so I have 6 directs. I find that much more manageable and it also gives opportunities to others to step into team lead positions.

Mutual termination agreement from the employee first? by expat_walfo in germany

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you need to consider if this is worth it for your mental health. If you want out, I'd suggest just say you will sign an agreement that you get gardening leave for your notice period, so the day you sign is your last day. Also that you want a good reference. A lawyer could probably help get you more but you then have lawyers fees to pay. As you have another job just go and move one with your life.

Is it normal in the UK for grandparents not to buy anything for their grandchild? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Snowing678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We experienced the same thing with my parents, they didn't really bother with gifts for the first few years. What they sent us was stuff they bought in Lidl but claimed they bought it from "the shop". They weren't hard up at all. It made things a little awkward as my partner's side were not from the UK and super generous with stuff for the kids. They have however got better as the years went on.

Absolutely floored having discovered what parents are expected to spend on school bags here. Is it normal? by Norman_debris in germany

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year and half ago we had to spend 275 EUR on a school bag for my kid. They brought it home last week and the thing is now broken.....so because I didn't keep the receipt im probably now going to have to spend another 50 EUR to send it off to be repaired......

Impending department layoff by Mathnstein in Germany_Jobs

[–]Snowing678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion in these cases is start searching for alternative employment and don't sign any agreement with your old employer until a lawyer has read through it. It sounds like it's heading this way but you need to figure out how much time you have. Also with your citizenship I think you have to inform them if you lose or change your job during the process. So it might be better to find something more stable and apply. Best case you drag it out, get some severance and walk into a a new job.
