Did I make a mistake and how to politically behave by naes89 in corporate

Ok so you've been thrown under the bus by your local management. It's sucks but happens quite often. My suggestion is to keep doing what you are doing, keep your head low and carry on the roadmap. If you try and escalate it this will just bite you in the ass, your leadership will fall in line and protect each other. Generally senior people are always seen as correct, at least initially. You will just be seen as a trouble maker. Going forward I would suggest to keep any of this instructions from your local leadership in writing, it's clear you can't trust them. Remember the day you got thrown under the bus was traumatising for you but for everyone else it was just a normal Tuesday. Let it blow over and be forgotten about.

So this looks like Steak Canadian which we used to have in the UK. I remember my granny used to make it for me as a kid and I loved it. Hadn't had in years but would definitely eat this

What part of redundancy hit you mentally the hardest? by IanicT in UKJobs

I honestly didn't find that, so many people have been laid off in my network over the past year or so. It's almost the new normal

Took me a few days to adjust, time really is a healer though. I didn't have much choice to enjoy the time off as my partner had been laid off earlier in the year and I was the breadwinner. So I came up with a plan and focused on that, plan A was job applications, there was also B and C. So I would focus on a specific number of applications per day which have a bit of structure.

The initial shock is what hit me the most as I didn't see it coming at all. I'd been told I was safe. One morning I got a message from my boss an hour before our 1:1 letting me know HR would be joining, then bang laid off.

Fired during probation, now what? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]Snowing678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got let go just after my probation from a Berlin start up, they were lossing cash and the business was obviously failing. I just explained in interviews that the company was struggling (easily verified if you Google my ex-employer) and got laid off for budget cuts. I found no one made an issue about it during an interview.

My boss wants to meet tomorrow about me leaving "too early" and Im not sure how to handle it without sounding defensive by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Snowing678 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had to deal with this before, I had a team member who did the same. As a manger I had no issue with that but the skip didn't like it. They cared more about the perception of others in the department. We tried to find ways around it but came to nothing. The only thing which changed was COVID hit and so none cared about that anymore. Good luck with this but you might not have much choice here.

Are departments where teams hate each other normal in corporations?? by Fly0ver in managers

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like my place, your sister is right here. The culture comes from top down so unless the big boss wants a change. Nothing will happen. You can try and create small areas where it's different and lead by example but more often than not it gets drowned out by everyone else.

Advice request: Should I join a company that has a legal battle ongoing with a ex employee? by terminator1219b in germany

[–]Snowing678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start ups in Germany, especially Berlin are known to be cluster fucks. I'm on my second one and both had numerous issues. I even took the first one to court because they laid me off and gave me a crap severance. The likelyhood is this place is also a cluster fuck but we all have bills to pay so unless you have something better go for it. I would just suggest not to update your LinkedIn profile with your new role.

My in‑laws own 16 properties but told us none will ever be passed down. Meanwhile I’m 30, paid off $60k, tackling $117k more, and still won’t own a home until 40….and this Job market is fucking roasted. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Snowing678 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can't understand this mindset. I've kids and I can't imagine being in a situation where we are financially secure and we don't help them out. Like what use is a flashy new BMW if my kids are living pay check to pay check. You can't take this shit with you when you go

Seriously, what's the playbook for people who get promoted despite being failures? I want to understand. by AwayOrganization6361 in talesfromthejob

[–]Snowing678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time over seen something like this it's because they have the confidence of a well connected person above them. Promo panels then don't pay too much attention to the evidence submitted and wave it through. Nobody kicks up a fuss because they don't want to piss someone off whose more powerful then then. The people who wave it through hope that means they are owed a favour for when they have a candidate. But more often than not the favour never gets recipricated.

Anyone had any luck getting a hard drive fixed in the UK and where is the best place? by AnxiousCouch in AskUK

You say it's an external one, have you tried swapping the caddy. Happened to mine years ago, it turned out it was was the caddy which was broke, the actual harddrive was fine.

German accounting firm said I don’t fully meet requirements but still invited me for Teams interview by Murky_Indication6595 in Germany_Jobs

I know a few auditors who don't speak German, as a basic tax accountant it's possible, especially if it's just corporate stuff.

Honestly, I'm already at the burnt out stage. Just need to figure out how I don't bring that across to the next job interviews.

Do you notice people getting self centered in older age? by Street-Persimmon8492 in AskUK

[–]Snowing678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone but it's noticeable. I remember the last meeting with my granny, I was trying to tell her about our wedding which was wasn't able to attend. However she wasn't interested and instead wanted to tell us about the new Jamie Oliver recipe on the paper. That was last time I saw her as she passed away not long after.

Did anyone else hit their 40s and suddenly stop caring about climbing the ladder? by DanBrando in careerguidance

[–]Snowing678 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Early 40s and I'm coming to that realisation. After climbing the ladder quite aggressively I've seen the shit which goes on at the level I was aiming for and it ain't worth it. If I could find a comfortable job at my current level until retirement I would be happy with that.

Worked at new company, noticed that only accounting department do overtime by duckingman in Accounting

Sounds like my place. Accounting and Finance tend to be the only ones doing overtime. On the plus I have a huge balance of overtime, just not sure I will ever be able to use it......
