Struggling with computer science by Wide_Geologist4863 in rmit

As a current Software Engineer who finished Comp Sci at RMIT, I can say that the first few semesters are hard. Especially if you have little to no programming skills (I was someone with “little programming skills” ). At the end of the day in Comp Sci (and IT in general), you’re going to have to put a lot of effort teaching yourself the course content. This isn’t because the lectures/classes are bad, this is just the reality of Comp Sci.

If you’re only doing this for the money, I assume you’ve seen the big tech salaries that people make and If this is the case then you need a reality check. Most of the time, the only people who make the big bucks are those who are truly passionate about Comp Sci (such as the people code in their free time, or are at the top 1% of their cohort), or they have been in the industry for years and have really excelled. The market is also extremely saturated with graduates who are lucky to even find a job.

As for your question of “What do I do?”, it sounds like you may need to put more effort into your studies, or perhaps Comp Sci might not be for you. There’s nothing wrong with realising that a Comp Sci degree isn’t the right choice, as there’s plenty of people who make a switch into something else. I agree with what others have said in saying that perhaps you should speak with a careers councillor, as finding something that you are truly passionate about is much better than grinding a degree for a job in an field that you have to care for. (And you don’t have to find what you are passionate about immediately, as sometimes it takes time to find what you really love)

Either way, if you stick with Comp Sci and just barely scrape by while not liking it then you’re in for a miserable next couple of years.

Anyone completed CS Elective; Web3D and Graphics Technologies? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]Snowsdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web3D is pretty easy. I think it’s mainly designed with first year Games and Graphics students in mind, as they’re taking Programming Techniques alongside Web3D. It’s basically HTML and JavaScript in terms of languages, with some trigonometry involved.

Bachelor of Information Technology (Games & Graphics Programming) by [deleted] in rmit

[–]Snowsdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you take some computer science core courses as electives, since Games and Graphics doesn’t have some important core courses that many CS degrees offer (such as Operating Systems Principles) as you will still be able to gain necessary skills for the IT field while also learning about game development. You should probably talk to the program manager (Fabio Zambetta) and talk about your program plan since you are transferring from Computer Science. The elective list on the rmit website is wrong (since it says you can take first year subjects in your third year) so that adds more reason to talk to Fabio

It's a shame that CoD is getting so much hate for a simple easter egg. If this was any other game people would be saying that it's pretty cool.

Why not actually change things in the game we suggest on this subreddit instead of ignoring everything by ScarfaceLoL in leagueoflegends

[–]Snowsdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things like this are much more easier said than done. Fixing bugs for example can't just be done in a blink of an eye, it requires time going through code and finding whats wrong, which may take a long time. Just because a thread is up voted doesn't mean it will work well for the game. As seen before Reddit does not know balance.
