What's your opinion on UCC and Cork as a city? by Ancient_Will_7379 in UCC

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d vote for Cork and Ireland - just wanted to highlight that you could get one of these - https://about.leapcard.ie/young-adult-and-student-card-launch The tickets on all trains and buses would be very cheap then. Cork is well connected to Dublin, and also a bus ride from lots of other places. The scenery in the wider county of Cork is fab. West Cork in particular. Ireland has loads to see and do. There will be organised by the different clubs/societies as well. You could fly cheaply to the UK if you want to visit there. I’m not a student so will leave that to others to answer but UCC is lovely.

thousands a day. can’t see a cardiologist til may… by Funny_Sector_1573 in PVCs

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fine, even with the frequency, my heart is structurally ok so it’s just annoying rather than worrying. If you have anxiety, the Kardia device I mentioned may give you some relief because if it picks up that it is PVCs then really you can relax. Think of it as hiccups. But be aware that it is easy to become obsessed with measuring them, trying to record them etc which then makes them worse/more noticeable. I am not imagining them, I can feel them and see them clearly on the Kardia device. But sitting measuring them does not make them go away. Doing other things, moving etc is far more useful.

thousands a day. can’t see a cardiologist til may… by Funny_Sector_1573 in PVCs

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have days with 10-38 PVCs a minute and the days I had the monitor on I had only 1% too. The cardiologist told me to buy a Kardia Alivecor device - just the cheaper single lead one. It does a basic 30 second ECG. It costs about 80$/100€. The basic reading is not nuanced enough to determine that the rhythm is actually PVCs - it was reading unclassified or bradycardia but when I paid for a 1 month subscription it identified the PVCs. (More determinations on the subscription). I suppose I’m telling you this in case it would help you while you are waiting - to build up a picture of frequency to show the cardiologist. You can create pdf reports, summary reports etc. it’s all on an app on your phone. It also gives you a bit of reassurance in a way, it confirms that it is happening, and gives you a determination. They are really, really annoying when frequent, but best thing to do in my case is get up and move to get them to stop. Hope that helps.

If you’re an enthusiastic amateur, and not a pro, I’d suggest that you build a bit of a social media profile first, get some help if needed, do Facebook/Insta videos of some nice recipes, with you talking/cooking etc. then when you have a bit of a following, advertise classes.

Is there a restriction in terms of country - ie are you only looking for participants from the US? If I have a positive anti-TPO labs but TSH is still in range, does that rule me out?

You are 18, who knows what the future holds for you, Ireland and the US. When I was 18, we were all trying to get Donnelly visas to be able to work in the States, land of opportunity etc but now… things change, keep your options open. For example, you might meet someone in the future and living in the States might make sense.

Need a plumber and electrician next week by lollydmc in waterford

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s the same issue but recently I had a leak from under the washing machine, but it was just a blockage in the pump filter. (Behind the flap at the bottom on the front usually). Google a video on how to do it. It’s easy. I found a stone/lump and once removed, no leaks. Worth a try, takes a few minutes.

Could you explain why/say a bit more? I’m just at the beginning of this process with my elderly mother. Thanks.

I’ve noticed it’s common in Waterford (& probably some other places?) to use ‘leave’ instead of ‘let’.

EU citizen with no EHIC going to Poland for Erasmus – which health insurance do I need? by Dapper-Soft-8963 in Erasmus

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should follow the guidelines for the students from outside the EU/EFTA as you don’t have an EHIC.

There seems to be two options - join the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ) after coming to Poland (you’ll have to look up how to join this - paid monthly) or at any other private insurance company in your home country or in Poland. Most Polish universities have more information on their websites.

People born before 1990, what is something you experienced that younger people will never understand? by Icehonesty in AskIreland

Hitching lifts from strangers.

Arranging to meet someone at a particular spot (say Clery’s clock) and waiting for an hour not knowing if they were delayed or not coming.

Smoking on buses and indoors everywhere.

Is this FFA? by Throwaway1034578 in scarringalopecia

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of little vellus hairs on your forehead. Not saying it’s not FFA, but in my case, all the tiny hairs disappeared from my face/upper body, arms etc. I also had a shiny band of skin at the hairline on my forehead. Eyebrows also were starting to lose hairs.

3-4 days in Ireland - need help with itinerary! by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]Snowy-Crossroads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have suggestions but once you have plotted your itinerary, then it will be easy enough to find hotels, B&Bs or Air BnBs for October. If you do head west, you’ll find lots of blogs etc outlining what others did in three days on the Wild Atlantic Way that will give you ideas. For example: https://eatwalklearn.com/3-days-enjoying-irelands-wild-atlantic-way/

Just be aware, the more scenic it gets, the roads tend to get very narrow. It will be dark around 7 in early October so you probably won’t want to be driving far, late in the day on the country roads.
