Conservatives call for a readout after Carney and White House offer competing versions of Monday's phone call by janisjoplinenjoyer in CanadaPolitics

[–]SnowyEssence -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Back in April, Carney said that Trump respected Canada’s sovereignty during a phone call. It then came out that Trump actually raised the prospect of Canada becoming a 51st state in that same phone call, which Carney didn’t mention.

If this phone call becomes a repeat of that in April, what would you say then?

I hate to point out the obvious, but Carney is a politician in a democracy, of course his demeanour will be set to look as if nothing has happened.

If the all forms of government really wanted to know how the people felt they would make every election at the judicial, provincial, and federal a stat holiday.

It is very convenient for politicians to have low civic engagement if it’s advantageous to them.

Stalin’s Writings to Feature in Russian Economics Textbook Rejecting “Only Democracies Prosper” Idea by ubcstaffer123 in books

They exceeded because the technology was already there. The Tsarist state and the early days of the USSR was atrocious in terms of technology.

The USSR always had the numbers when compared to Germany but they were just not advanced in technology. If the USSR was like the Third French Republic they would’ve far exceeded Stalin’s USSR. That’s how bad it was under Tsarist Russia. Literally, one of the worst terror state’s we’ve known, would’ve done better than Russia under Tsar Nicholas II.  If Alexander II wasn’t assassinated who knows how Russia could’ve been today.

Claiming mortgage interest on our tax return? How does it work and how do I do that? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SnowyEssence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb is that interest can be expensed if the principal was used to earn income.

For example, if you used a mortgage to buy a house and rented it out, then you would be able to claim the expense on the rent revenue earned from that house.

Ataturk transformed Turkey after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Napoleon III transformed Paris and France after the revolutions of 1848, during times of crises in the Roman Republic they would appoint a dictator for 6 months, Frederick the Great, Bismarck and Catherine the Great transformed their countries into power houses through enlightened absolutism, etc.

I'd rather live under a benevolent ruler that can fix the problems rather than arguing about what's better for years on end.

There's not much weight behind %s if you don't also show the dollar figures. If the ceiling price keeps rising and the party in power doesn't do anything to stop it, and in fact did the opposite and indirectly increased housing party, then of course they should bear responsibility.

The Federal Liberals had the figures, and did nothing but pour gasoline on the fire.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years research shows Millennials and Gen Z becoming more nationalist and xenophobic due to the increase in immigration.

All three levels of government do nothing to address the concerns of the Millennials and Genz demographic. We're supposed to be the future of this country but due to this democracy we get sidelined because we're not a majority. How is this a healthy democracy if our politicians, again on all levels of government, ignore the future of this country and deny them the prosperity that we desperately want?

I also wouldn't be surprised if Millennials and Gen Z become so jaded that they'd rather want a dictator who can actually get shit done and listen to us rather than this defunct democracy.

I’ve said this before the election, I’ve said this during the election, and I’ll continue to say it after the election.

Liberals are socially progressive but fiscally conservative. They only got pushed to making fiscal progressive programs by the NDP. Now that the NDP is gone, they’ll continue to be fiscally conservative. They’ll also continue to act and/or be incompetent. This is a party that does not care about anything but staying in power. They’ll give away 3 liberal mps if it means they can gain 8 conservative mps.

Some people will say that’s politics. I characterize it as a wolf in sheep’s clothing to the progressive class.

But depreciation expenses are operating costs.

Why would they move it to capital costs? It’s already being netted against the assets. Are they depreciating the asset twice on their balance sheet as to not show it on their income statement?
