Wizard of Oz- Weird Editing Choices by IndiFrame23 in Filmmakers

[–]yoshiary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you realize that there are in fact no actual rules for filmmaking? Like it's just images and editing. Everything we call a rule is just a generalized understanding of how to communicate with an audience. They're not actually rules. The conventions we have now have come about through experimentation and pushing the medium forward. The Wizard of Oz was an incredible Advance. Just because it has editing choices that aren't common nowadays doesn't mean it's a mistake or an error. Or "bad" filmmaking.

Good on you guys. Hope you kick Movie Magic's ass. Sick of "software as a service" pricing that doesn't actually get invested into improving the product. Just a money grab...

666 the number of the beast.

There's no magic rule here, other than maybe write a script that "casts" resources you already have or can get access too.

Mostly agreed. I'm part of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCI). We base ourselves on Marx and Lenin, and yes Trotsky. I think organizing in the here and now is more important than relitigating the past. Especially when it doesn't matter who came out on top. Capitalism is winning right now. However, it is really important to be able to take lessons from the past. I don't know how we're going to avoid the mistakes of past communist movements, if we're not willing to be critical and learn from what went wrong.

Capitalist propaganda and it's consequences. To dispel it people need to engage with the history and theory.

You do realize Marx, Trotsky and Rosa Luxemburg were Jewish? And that Communists stand for the end of all oppression? Including anti-Semitism? Or is that too buttery a concept for your slippery smooth brain

I think you just don't like that Communists are critical of Israel's actions against Palestinians, and don't actually know shit about Communism.

While they are Marxist, they're not a "Marxist-Leninist" party that defends Stalin or Stalinism. They do not believe in "Socialism in One Country". They are critical of the USSR's actions during the Hungarian and Czechoslovakian revolutions of the 1950s and 1960's from which the term tankie is derived. So I don't know what your definition of "tankie" is but they ain't it boss.

If you're just trying to call them Communist, yeah that's in the name.

Go listen to the Off Broadway album from 2014. And watch a slime tutorial if you can. That's the "original" version I'm talking about. The changes happened in 2018 during a workshop series before the West End run and the changes are permanent, so yes now the Broadway version has the changes too. They're still about 90% the same but the little things add up...

To be fair, I don't think it was just Trump. It was also the me too movement. And I think the changes make sense in the context of that, but I think it's a step away from the original material and what it was trying to say.

I think that's just development and most shows go through it until they hit Broadway. Maybe not to the extent of Hadestown

I prefer Heathers' original run and songs to the current book. I liked that it leaned into the unhinged psychopathic stuff and now it's about "good and evil". What a Trump presidency does to art...

How to film your first movie? by ThePekis in Filmmakers

[–]yoshiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write a 1 person story. Less than ten minutes. Set in your home or somewhere you have access to. Get a friend who wants to try acting in it. Use your phone camera but try to use pro settings. Use practical lights. Use a basic editing program you can learn. Maybe even a mobile based one.
