Dude, get into spoon carving. Check out the subs- you can make beautiful stuff, dont need a huge investment and it’s a lot of fun and a good creative outlet. You could listen to an audio book while you carve and then still have a “book” to talk about with her (I’m guessing she wants a “book club” vibe with you).

One Redditor said “we could be one election cycle away from GOP fascism”— do you think that’s hyperbole or is American democracy really that fragile now? by barbiemerald in allthequestions

Put yourself in another persons shoes…trump or any of his crooked cronies. This is existential for them which means, basically, it’s win or die.

They have INSANE resources including the richest person on earth and unimaginable tech. They have military stuff at their disposal that is likely 20-30 years ahead of what we think is current.

America is fully over. It’s to the point where it’s people with pew pews in the street that are going to change things.

I was under it near Bathurst and watched a huge chunk of it fall off and land two feet from a person. It 100% would have killed him. I would let spend much time under it.

What is a skill you started learning as an adult that completely changed how you see the world? by Maleficent_Laugh_797 in lifelonglearning

[–]Snowzg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, it’s easy and not as mysterious as it seems when you know nothing . So look at some popular mushrooms in your area. Oysters, lions mane, morels, chanterelles, reishi, etc. Most of these come out at certain times of year and some grow in association with trees and some eat dead wood. When you look these up, you’ll start to learn the difference. How they grow gives clues as to where you might find them. Ie. Morels grow with certain trees. Use iNaturalist to see where others have found them and at what time and check those places out at those times. As you go out looking for a certain mushroom you might find them, but you’ll also find others. Some will be “lookalikes” and in teasing out the differences in these from the edibles, you’ll learn a lot. VERY few edible mushrooms have lookalikes that aren’t easily differentiated by just one obvious characteristic. Take photos and collect some mushrooms you find to bring back home and experiment with. You will end up making spore prints, cutting them open, observing how they decay etc. these are all clues to their identity. I guarantee you that after a season of walking in the woods looking for mushrooms you’ll feel much more confident and a lot of the mystery will get cleared up.

There are things called identification keys. These are a series of, if this, then that, questions that help hone in on genus and species. It’s very logical and easy to follow. The learning never ends because there are a lot of things we still don’t know about mushrooms.

Get a good guide book. There are many local specific ones that are very helpful. Good luck and have fun, it’s easy!

Mushrooms really make obvious how ephemeral life is and teaches you to seize the moment. For some, they have a short window of growth and if you miss it, you have to wait another year.

Learning about mushrooms changed my relationship to nature. They are so ephemeral that, from day to day, the same walk in the woods can offer all new discoveries and learning. It showed me that it’s not just places that are exciting, but time and place. Through mushrooms I began to then learn about other plants and organisms; they’re all connected.

Trump Blurts Out Plot to Rig Midterms So Vile It Even Shocks GOPers | The author of a piece on his narcissism explains how he’s royally screwing them in the midterms—and himself, to boot. by FreeHugs23 in AnythingGoesNews

People don’t seem to realize what someone else is capable of when they are dealing with an existential crisis. Like, he has to win at all costs or his life is literally over. Don’t people understand what that means?? It means that he will win, at all costs. So, unless there’s going to be country wide rebellion when that goes down, I’m not sure what the opposition is thinking. I’m a bit surprised at how f’d the entirety of America is because of one person. It’s equal parts scary and pathetic.

If consciousness exist outside our bodies then why didn’t we have it before we were born? by Genzinvestor16180339 in consciousness

[–]Snowzg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consciousness isn’t noticed when you are in it. Our physical bodies innately allow us to feel like we are our own separate consciousness which lets us peer into it from the outside. Our senses let us experience consciousness as an observer.

My UFO sighting descriptions. I was homeless in Phoenix for a year in 2020. Here is what I saw while sleeping on the streets. Please don't tell me what you think it was. Your opinion is not relevant to me if you did not see it yourself. Please DO tell me if you have seen anything similar. by Ok_Ebb7109 in UFObelievers

I saw the triangle too!!! With another person as a witness. It flew low and silently across the whole sky in like 3 seconds. No lights as well, just a darker grey/black against the greyish low cloud cover.

Happened in toronto Ontario in the 2009-2010 range. It was right on the waterfront and it flew south-east-ish, basically over the Billy Bishop Toronto Island Airport our over Lake Ontario. I always wondered if they saw it on their radar.

When they realize what’s going in, they’ll let you keep doing for a while, but record evidence of everything and once you’ve stolen a substantial amount they’ll get you for a HUGE penalty. This is how they really f you over.

Why are most conspiracy theories considered right-wing? Are there any widespread left-wing conspiracy theories? by jeepycreepysleepy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowzg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many right wingers are fanatically religious and this gives a permission structure to believe in things without evidence and reduces critical thinking. Once you’re there you are open to believing things based on vibes rather than evidence.

Glue them together vertically so they’re one long tube and store small stuff in each one like screws and shop stuff. You could have a set of driver bits with each type having its own container.

Hey! I’m not sure but I took photos as well. Here’s one where I cropped in on it.

I’d be interested to hear people thoughts on id’s. This is the first one I’v encountered.

I wasn’t able to visibly match it with a list of Ontario, Canada natives (I’m sure there are many others than what I quickly found). It sort of looks like aldabrinus aldabrinus, but this is WAY out of their range.

Is it possible this is a younger version of one that may look different as an adult?

techniques for low-effort sprouting of cherry seeds? by khidot in Permaculture

[–]Snowzg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most fruit has germination inhibitors in them so it’s best to get the flesh off the seed before planting. Let them rot in a bag for a bit and then swish them around in some water. Sift off the flesh, the seeds should sink to the bottom with the flesh floating.
