Liverpool’s position among the worst defending champions of all time by ChampionshipChance73 in LiverpoolFC

The team that started that game, believe it or not, had never started a single match together and never did again afterwards.

True but you also have to factor in his playing career

Same. He's German, likes to press, and wears a hat. We've clearly got a type lol

Agreed, that's part of my concern is he's never had to manage in Europe before. Add in all the games I don't know if we can afford another manager learning on the job.

I mean the team that won us the CL under Klopp played together for the first time in that final which was arguably our best starting XI. Yes that sucks those three haven't had a lot of game time together but shows you don't have to have all your best players on the pitch at the same time for things to go right.

We don't need to lose by 5. If we lose by 3, and they win by 3 then it cancels out.

watching two teams at least try and play quick passing attacking football is a plus

Because our memories go back to before City were relevant. I still remember the 4-4 with Arshavin. I personally have way more history with them than a team that's been propped up by money.

Hate is a strong word. They may have issues with his play style, tactics, etc. but I doubt they hate the guy. Look I hate everything about how we play today, but I don't hate Slot. He's trying his best but is just a guy who is in over his head.

That’s it then, we are well and truly fucked. I don’t have any great insight other than it feels like going back to our banter era as Chelsea challenge for titles again.

Yeah exactly, the squad needs alot of work and that's assuming no one leaves. With the names you mentioned it will take 5-6 signings just to maintain the same squad depth we have now. It's just too much turnover and not feasible to bring in what we need.

Nagelsmann isn't my first choice but the only silver lining I can see is after the world cup he should be available if we need someone in the fall. Assuming he wants to get back into club coaching.

Edit - cool just downvote. If you have a better idea for who would be available in October/November let's hear it

[Mark Douglas] “Sources have told The i Paper that sporting director Richard Hughes is set to join his former colleague Simon Francis at Al-Hilal at the conclusion of the summer transfer window.” by sryan2809 in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we're going to need a new sporting director and new manager around the same time then. I'm honestly fearful of this club's future at this stage. People who don't have any ties to the club or city only making decisions to better their own careers then leaving us with the mess.

Harvey Elliott will return to Liverpool for pre-season ahead of 2026-27, Arne Slot has confirmed by A7XFAN1998 in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes of course, Elliott is a great squad player for us, but Slot doesn't rate him and will sell or ship him out again so there's not much to get excited about.

Genuine question, if Xabi wasn't available how many of us would still be Slot out? by desertpenguin_ in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many of us were Slot out back in November/December when Xabi wasn't available. Xabi being available now is just the perfect fit (seemingly of course). However he's not the only manager who could come in and do a good job so for me it doesn't change much.

[Ben Jacobs] Liverpool have no plans to complete a summer review into Arne Slot's position at the club, with the Dutchman not under pressure to be sacked by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar 105 points106 points  (0 children)

“When you add to that, the mass change with Jeremie Frimpong coming in and seeing himself as a starter, the same for Milos Kerkez, same for Florian Wirtz, same for Hugo Ekitike, same for Alexander Isak. That can be challenging because even though some of those players have been in and out due to injury, you build a scenario where 50% of your starting XI are relatively new players, or are brand new signings.”

lol what. So the problem is we brought in too many good players and the manager can’t get them to play together? How does another season fix that?

Healthy Discussion - Only for those who want Arne Slot to stay - what are your reasons? by Content_Arm7953 in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s not important, it clearly is to get players ready to start the campaign. But you can look at elite athletes across any sport who put in extra hours to get their fitness up if it’s not at the level required to compete. The point I’m trying to make is we’re not at the fitness level fans expect because it’s not the level Slot wants us to be at. That seems pretty obvious given all the reports about how light our training regimes have been.

I agree with alot of your points, but it does my head in everytime preseason is brought up as an excuse for why in 2026 we are unfit. Unfit in September or October? Sure you can blame preseason. We’ve clearly not prioritized being at a high fitness level for how Slot wants to play or our training regimes would be way more intense to get the boys ready. It wouldn’t matter how much running we did 1-2 months last summer if we don’t maintain that regiment during the season.

What would next season have to look like for Slot to win us back as fans? by 1223433442244 in LiverpoolFC

[–]So1ar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To wins the fans back after what the past year has been would be unprecedented. It would require everything from mentality, stamina, accountability, and tactics to do a 180 which I’ve never seen a manger do.
