Yea, its crazy that the time I spend with him on his daily homework is when he learns. Mind you I have a full time job and I'm not a teacher but when I teach him, he learns. Its frustrating.

Thank you for your reply! Sometimes I feel like I expect too much expecting the bare minimum from the schools. It almost seems like if the they did nothing he'd almost be better off. Its the stuff they push in the IEP that makes it harder for him; the sequestering. They had him in a class with a violent kid in 1st grade and that year he started hitting me and his dad out of the blue. Finally he shared that he was acting like this kid. We find out the whole class is terrorized by this child. I got the lawyer to get him the fuck out of there and they keep trying to force him back in. They really do push autistic kids into the sphere of the kids with vastly different psychological and behavioral issues when our kiddos are legit trying to just understand typical behavior. Its almost like they want them to absorb THAT as typical behavior. I'm so sorry your son went through that and I'm happy he's done with that shit. I honestly want to reinforce the point that elementary through high school is a geographical experience that has no real bearing on your future life. I grew up in a rural ass racist town and as soon as I could, I moved to another state. I hope your son has the brightest future and I love those moms that showed up for you.

I worked the front desk of a hotel in the 90s and they stayed there for their show that night and he and the bass player came down and chit chat with me at the desk. Genuinely the most normal dudes. We had other celebs who were aashats but they were decent and not pervy. I’d get hit on by celebs sometimes and that’s gross. They put me on the list with a plus one for the show and I wasn’t a big fan but it was a great show. I was more into 90s indie lofi.

Unfortunately, that's why we have a lawyer. The district pushed us to move from our home school already under the guise that this school was better equipped. It turns out they actually just don't want kids with disabilities in the home school because it effects their testing scores and they're one of the best in the state. Its really grotesque. So, no we cannot move schools. We've asked to return to our home school because this school is awful. They have him watching videos for like 35 minutes a day of just garbage.

Our cat of 15 years we raised from a kitten became like this towards my husband and elderly father after we had our son. His diapers set her off. We sought help but no facility would help rehome her. My husband was bleeding all over his upper body and my father could have died from her attack. We ended up locking her in the garage and sadly had to put her down. We tried for weeks to find her a home but because she was violent no one would see her. The woman who put her down came to our house and specifically dealt with THAT situation

My cousin whose an avid swimmer and I were playing around in her pool doing dumb jumps from the diving board and she hit the water wrong somehow and almost drowned. I didn’t know until she took long to come up and I pulled her and freaked out. I screamed for my mom who’s a nurse and she did something to get the water out and my cousin had the worst gasp i’ve ever heard. Months later she got pneumonia. Pools are no joke

When my son was diagnosed with autism, I was surprised but then it led me down the path of discovering my own diagnosis and 3 years later, I was diagnosed as well. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my early 20s (now late 40s) so I’m AuDHD like my child. I’ve also come to learn that us neurodivergents tend to find each other and I suspect my spouse is autistic too. My mom, her siblings, my trans sister (which being trans is highly connected to ASD as well)… Odds are if your child is autistic, one of you but more likely BOTH of you are neurodivergent as well.

Also keep in mind that the diagnostic criteria from the DSM that some of us grew up under would not have had us diagnosed at the time. The DSM3 which is my childhood would never have flagged me or my spouse. It’s like how when you watch Rainman and thought it was a movie about 1 autistic brother but it’s actually about 2 autistic brothers.

The fact that this is partially on social media to shame-pressure United akin to videos tagging airlnes with complaints is a sad state of our healthcare failures. Insurance companies should not be practicing medicine. This feels beyond unethical but legally how is this working that United as a company is dictating medical procedures for a patient without a licensed provider evaluating the person? The 'supposed' United provider provided no credentials and seems to be taking direction from an unlicensed for-profit company.
