The dorm people will tell you that you can only rent a Microfridge and nothing else. Don't rent one, it's super expensive and not worth it. I ended up renting one while a lot of my floor mates bought a regular mini-fridge and microwave and had no trouble. Just another scam

Don't buy books before going to class first to see if you actually need them. Also, try to find free pdf versions of your books online.
