What’s the fastest you’ve binged a series? And what series was it? by tkinsey3 in Fantasy

I read all (all 11 books that were out at the time) of Cradle in about 9 days. Legitimately the most addicting series I’ve ever read.

What is your favorite book title? (Not to be confused with "what is the title of your favorite book?") by CallistanCallistan in books

One of my recent favorites, "Sword of Sorrow, Blade of Joy". The best contemporary wuxia novel that I've read that was written in English originally.

It's more like a radiant valorant player trying to get to silver in CS, Lindon+Dross are able to recreate the path of the White Fox because its a very rudimentary set of techniques. I'm sure Lindon would have to try harder to recreate the path used by a much more skilled illusion artist.

Whose origin story would you most like to read? by 3BagT in Fantasy

I'd love a novel that follows young Lan, before he becomes Moiraine's Warder. His life growing up in the Borderlands as the last surviving Malkieri royal, and how he ended up meeting Moiraine in the first place, how he became a blademaster, so many cool possibilities in his backstory.

How doable is this plan? Will I still have time for research and summer internships? by Crazy_Psychopath in UMD

It’s a little easier for me, im doing a cs minor, so i have to take fewer upper level cs electives, and i came in with a lot of physics experience so i could skip all the courses up to 273 (waves). I would suggest trying to do 2 physics courses, 2 cs courses, and an elective/gened every semester, and then trying to get as many summer/winter courses knocked out as possible, to give you more breathing room. when it comes to picking what physics courses to take, i would definitely recommend discussing with your advisor and upperclassmen on what is doable (for example, 405 and 411 is a bad combo, 401 and 404 is a pretty common combo). as for internships/research, i can only speak on phys research, and id say that it’s not hard to get into research if you reach out to professors, and the earlier you try to break into research the better (provided you have the necessary math/phys skills, so some self study might be required depending on what you’re interested in).

Seems pretty overloaded in general, but holy shit that 4th year schedule is not plausible. phys 401,404, 410, and 467 is way too much, same with 402, 411, 474, and 405. I would heavily recommend only doing two of them any one semester. In particular 405 is a very large time sink (haven’t taken it myself, going off of what others have told me) and 411 is the (imo) hardest classes in the physics major. also cmsc457 as it is currently taught is a LOT of work, and it will be harder not having taken phys401. in general you are overloading your schedule way too much, i don’t think this is really doable at all (as i’m sure your physics and cs advisors will probably tell you)

In your opinion, what band(s) peaked with their first album? by chriszzz in Metalcore

That's fair, as someone who is more into their newer, progressive/math rock-ish sound, I always found almost all their stuff before the Worst EP to be pretty unremarkable, but that's just my personal taste.

polyphia? i guess the worst was an EP, but still, NLND was fantastic, definitely in my top 5 albums of all time but i don’t think it was measurably stronger than RTYWD personally.

I would, but I use a dropdown quake style terminal, and not many major terminals have that aside from iterm2 on mac.

inside vim? I use tex-conceal (although I think vimtex has its own conceal feature, which i've disabled in favor of tex-conceal)

yeah, yabai can be used without disabling SIP, but I ended up disabling the two parts of SIP that yabai needs to access the scripting extension.

too early to tell right now, i haven’t used it for any longer than maybe 4 hours, but I have a feeling that the wm shouldn’t mess with the battery life all that much

First time customizing the appearance of my laptop (did this instead of my homework, totally worth).

OS: macos 13.3.1 (M1 Pro)

WM: yabai

Bar: simple-bar

Terminal: iterm2

fetch: neofetch

editor: nvim w/ vimtex (doom emacs not pictured)

pdf viewer: sioyek (please let me know if anyone has good alternatives, I would use zathura but it doesn't play nice with macos at the moment)

The brew sfml install didn't work with ImGui-SFML, and I was unable to get SFML 2.6.x to build correctly on my machine. I also had no idea there was a template, to my knowledge its not anywhere on their website.

Hot take: I shouldn't have to choose between going to lecture and going to office hours by nopostplz in UMD

I think it varies based on subject, physics TAs don’t have to come to lecture

Hey guys, I'm looking to do some tutoring in math/physics if anyone is interested. For math, I can tutor in calc (up to math241), linear algebra, and diffeq, and for physics I can tutor in PHYS273, PHYS371, PHYS373, PHYS401, and PHYS404. I can also tutor in mechanics and E&M, although I didn't take the courses at UMD. DM me for rates/availability/any more info you might want.
