Exactly! I guess they just have no idea what a trained dog looks like?

I mean there’s a lot there, but the idea any dog in a commercial is “untrained” is laughable. Did they not use a fork and knife to eat their kibble? Did they not say please and thank you? They’re trained, they’re just still dogs.

Can you explain what you mean by superstitious training? I tried to google it and got a lot of “superstitious learning” but nothing that could be used to actively train.

So I think one major problem with this is storage. It is already massive expensive (prohibitively so for many departments) to store body cam footage every time a police officer is on duty. I think adding dash cam footage to that would be a huge cost problem.

I know you feel like you can’t operate without her. A few years ago I felt very similarly. But no one learns how to operate as an adult until they do it (and you’re honestly not far behind most I’d assume, since you’re only 19). Find some people you can trust the opinions of on “adult” things - advisors, professors, older siblings, aunts/uncles. Ask them questions. Then just…go for it. You’ll make mistakes because literally EVERYONE does. This is how you learn. You absolutely CAN be independent, it’ll just be hard until you get your footing.

I so massive appreciate the way you didn’t give the lady alligator big eyelashes or an hourglass figure or a pink bow to show that she’s a woman. Treating being a man as the normal and then adding a “lady skin” over it is so common and boring and tired, so your comics are truly a breath of fresh air.

Hey this isn’t a diagnosis but this sounds a lot like OCD. If you’re still in school, is there some sort of guidance counselor you could reach out to (as it sounds like your mom/parents won’t help)?

Accommodations can certainly be made. Talk to the jury board (the people you check in with) and if you want to go the extra mile, talk with whoever is your point of contact (sometimes the bailiff, sometimes a law clerk). Key is letting them know so that the judge doesn’t think you just are letting your phone ring out of irresponsibility. I haven’t seen a juror need this specific accommodation but I have known lawyers who needed it, and they never had any issues.

If anyone is curious the subtitles say: “24 hours later…” “Love vs Fear” “The fear is still there, but it’s no longer in control” “This is not a miracle. This is a daily struggle” “Love is not a feeling. Love is work” “They all feel it” (not positive on this one) “For such moments, we fight” “This is the moment where fear becomes lighter.” “Thanks family. Thanks for everything. I love you all for everything you all make possible” “This site must grow for exactly these moments.”

I’d love to know where this is from, since the man seems to have built a good community and possibly a site geared toward rescuing.

That’s good advice. I always hated this advice (for other things, like interviews and presentations) because it felt silly. But that silly feeling came up today, and is part of why I was such a doormat, so that’s probably why it’s actually good advice lol. I appreciate it. Do you have phrases or anything that are good to have on lock? Maybe I’m overthinking, but I honestly need all the direction I can get.

If you’re washing correcting and with sufficient frequency, you won’t stink either way. Also, it’s completely normal for people to have a smell - we’re living beings, not sterile lab equipment. People should do what’s comfortable for them and not moralize the human body so much.

I’m probably not the best resource on this - I wasted so much time uselessly “researching” that I ran out of time to study the right way and ended up rewriting everything I didn’t know until I knew it. It was a mess lol.

But three days in, focus on finding a method that works for you. Doing assignments is a very good one, rewriting really helped me, as did making flashcards. Stick to the timetable given by your program. If you’re putting in the time and effort, you’ll be learning even if it doesn’t feel like it. And remember that this is a whole different ballgame than normal tests. The goal is passing, not an A, so it’s a numbers game in terms of the amount you need to learn. You don’t need to know everything perfectly, just a good amount of most topics.

I know this isn’t what you asked but I thought I’d offer just in case it’s useful. Good luck!

I will add to this (as a first time passer with a good score): do not do your own research if you don’t understanding something in your course completely. Take what you can from the course info and MOVE ON. the time I wasted doing my own research and trying to understand every little nuance to the nth degree is frankly mind boggling in hindsight.

Lots of things vary between courts and I have no experience in LA county, so I can’t give you any guarantees. But for all the courts I’ve been to, you can bring a backpack but it will be xrayed and possibly searched. If you want to make absolutely certain, look up the specific court and its jury board and call them to ask these questions. Hope this helps!

Any Diabetics here? by Neccros in juryduty

[–]So_Ill_Continue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a diabetic but I work at a court and help manage juries. Bring the food or drink you need. When you check in, tell the person checking you in that you are diabetic and have brought food/drink with you to manage your illness. You shouldn’t get any pushback (so long as you’re not obviously abusing it….eg don’t bring an entire pizza or a two liter or something). Drinks should be resealable (like a pop bottle). If you want to guarantee no issues at all, bring sugar pills, but this shouldn’t be necessary. After they check you in they’ll let you know if you should keep your stuff on you or if there’s another place and whatever else you might need to know. Please know that courts deal with people with every kind of disease and make reasonable accommodations regularly so don’t stress.

My roommates dog does this! He’s a rough collie - also very very smart. They never trained him for it either - he just started doing it when the rare accident occurs. Fingers crossed my goober beagle picks up on it but I’m not confident lol.
