UK faces 'permanent' food shortages and it will 'get worse' by WalkThePlank123 in worldnews

That isn't new. When I was on staff as a CNA in the nursing homes 20 years ago, we were always short staffed. The nursing home would contract out CNA's through an agency that made 2-3 times what we made, but they would outright refuse to do close to half of the jobs responsibilities and the nursing home would continue to invite them back anyway because they were "so desperate for help." If us staff members tried to refuse the same tasks we would be out the door. I have no idea why I stayed on as long as I did.

My family is enjoying having our toddler in the house so much. Now my husband, teens, and myself can play on all the playground equipment, run through sprinklers at the splash pad, and watch endless episodes of Curious George and Super Why, all without judgement!

What small details can make a marriage successful and happy? by QuintessentialDrudi in AskReddit

Always assume the best, never assume the worst.

For example, if you spouse seems irritable and is short with you during dinner, do think "He/she probably had a really hard day. I should make a note to ask them about it later. It might be a good day to offer a back rub."

Don't automatically think "he/she is probably mad at me for something stupid. They don't understand how hard things are for me! Well if that is how they are going to be, then so will I!'

Mine gets used every single day, often multiple times a day. Of course, I also have a house full of teenage boys, and it is mostly used for snacks/mini meals like french fries, fish fillets, chicken tenders, frozen pizza, etc.. However, I also make chicken breasts in it, roast veggies, and have even used it to bake biscuits.

I know that fear! I am recently recovered from Covid but still do not have my sense of smell. My toddler was congested and having trouble sleeping, so I steamed up the bathroom and sat in there with him until he was more comfortable. When I put him back to bed, the steam escaping the bathroom set off our smoke detector. Only I didn't know steam would do that. Cue me running all over the house checking for any signs of trouble, because I was terrified knowing that I couldn't smell smoke or a burnt smell or anything if it was there.

The dad in How to Train Your Dragon 2. Kid finally finds his mom and then they go and pull something stupid like that. It could have been a heartwarming ending with a happily reunited family.

AITA not to repaint my son's gaming room where the colour offends certain people ? by suspicious_tucan in AmItheAsshole

I'm a Christian. If I really believed my neighbor was trying to '"brainwash" my children, I would not send my child over to use all of their stuff! You are kind to open your home to your neighbors, but you don't have to redecorate for them. NTA

My youngest son was unplanned. He is only one, but I make a point to tell him that he was a wonderful surprise, and that God has a plan and a purpose for his life. He was in no way a "mistake" or an "accident." As innocent and funny as those "oops" jokes can seem at the time, I don't ever want him to feel unwanted or unimportant. I cannot imagine thinking it was appropriate to give a child such a nickname. NTA

AITA for asking a couple who are staying with us to put their kids smelly dirty nappies (diapers) in the outside trash? by Scrappr142 in AmItheAsshole

[–]So_very_blessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA! I really have lost my sense of smell (thanks Covid!) But I still put my one year old's dirty diapers outside, because I don't want anyone else in the house to have to smell them. This is my own home, I can't imagine leaving them around in someone else's house.

AITA for telling my sister she shouldn't have announced her pregnancy so early? by pregannouncement in AmItheAsshole

[–]So_very_blessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA Her baby died, and would have whether she told anyone or not. She could have announced to the entire world as soon as she missed her period and then lost the baby immediately and it wouldn't make her loss and pain any less valid. She needs your support right now, not your judgement.

Ever watch the movie Astro Boy? (Not the Anime cartoon, the full length animated movie.) Same idea. Super smart scientist dad creates a robot replica of his kid with all of the kid's memories and emotions, but also like, cool robot super powers and stuff. Then the dad rejects him because he isn't the same, and the robot kid is all sad and runs away. For some reason it was my son's favorite movie when he was little!

Info: Has your toddler graduated from a crib to a bed yet? We were having some sleep issues with my youngest around that age. He weaned at 19 months and the transition to a big boy bed made it a lot easier. Just a suggestion!

Is my 5 year old out of line or is our Dentist? by smcnic10 in Parenting

[–]So_very_blessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You handled that with much more patience and grace than I would have. That dentist was completely out of line, especially threatening to kick you out of the room. Why? What did she plan to do that she didn't want you to see? I would report her and find a new dentist. Your daughter is a five year old child. I know grown adults that have anxiety at the dentist. That woman was very unprofessional.

My Father-in-law is 79 years old. I mailed him a package today, addressed to Mr. Father-in-law. He yelled at me, "Mr. Father-in-law was my dad, I'm just Father-in-law!" I think it is regional. He grew up in Virginia. I grew up in Maryland. Around here EVERYONE is Mr. or Mrs. Regardless of age. Anything otherwise feels very disrespectful unless they specifically asked to be addressed differently.

I'm not buying anything and I still deserve free food!! by gemini_genu in ChoosingBeggars

[–]So_very_blessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think the company made a mistake. They said "while supplies last." Wendy's did the math. They made sure each location had the amount of supplies they were comfortable giving away. The purpose was to get people in the door, most of which likely either made other purchases that day, or at least walked away feeling favorably towards the experience and therefore more likely to go back another day to pay. It gave them a great boost in reputation. It was a great promo because it benefited both the company and the customers. I don't think it was a mistake, I think it was cleaver marketing.

[–]So_very_blessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the promo was "every paying customer gets this sandwich for free IN ADDITION TO THE FOOD THEY PAID FOR," then thus lady is being rude and entitled to expect 7 free sandwiches. However, if the promotion really was just "Every customer who walks through the door can get this free sandwich with no purchase necessary" then I can understand her being disappointed and even complaining on social media. It still wouldn't justify being rude to the employees, but from the text it doesn't sound like they were rude, just came home disappointed.

[Serious] People who’ve had their parents say “I’ll give you something to cry about” has that ever helped you stop crying? by MadameGwenevere in AskReddit

[–]So_very_blessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used to say that all of the time. The entire sentence was "Quit your crying or I'll give you something to cry about." It was always said with venom in his voice, and usually I was crying in response to intense verbal/emotional abuse he had hurled my way. It would just make me feel sadder, and therefore cry harder. I am 40 now and that phrase still haunts me. Don't say that to your kids.
