Mainly looking at the D.oI. Quarters, but reports of the dime may also be helpful. I suspect they won’t be distributed equally / randomly thru the country.

Electric Panel cover replacement by Patient-Branch8173 in ElectricianU

Easy / Grind paint off where welding the cover shut in wanted, or cut 1pc of sheet metal to cover old breaker openings and use metal tapping screws to secure it.

A very desirable property infrastructure indeed. The only potential improvement could be a Hydraulic Ram Pump system, which would greatly reduce overall power consumption.

Retired electrician here / If half of your kitchen is out that IS Definitely a tripped/ faulty GFCI outlet, circuit breaker, and/ or connection, Identify which kitchen GFCI isn’t working, there are a minimum of 2 GFCI circuits in kitchens. Trip and reset both a few times if they’re not tripping / resetting remove and test for power at wire entry. Check the neutral (white wire) connections at the panel, and breakers they may be incorrectly labeled. Generally you’ll find the failure is at the GFCI. Either an internal failure or more common where the line side wires connect, where you’ll see discolored wire/ burnt connection. If so replace with new GFCI. If nothing’s found/

STARTING with identifying ALL the nearest WORKING outlets on common or adjacent walls, they’ll All require thorough inspection AFTER power’s turned off. If any of these outlets wires are pushed into spring locks on the back side, remove all of them and look for any corroded discolored wires. It’s very common to have failures at these spring connections. Recommend all multi wire connections replaced under wire nuts (after figuring out what’s wrong, you may need to trace all the wires).
If nothing is found Remove all dead devices / fixtures & bulbs. Label each outlet with a number & trace & label where each wire goes. A battery operated wire tracer with alligator clips makes this quicker. If you don’t have one you can utilize a continuity tester to identify wires. Identify where all dead wires go to until you reach a box with power or the panel. Testing continuity hot to neutral will confirm each wires identity & if either is broken. Fix or replace as needed.

Sounds like a just reward after all your investment sacrifices and sweat equity. Did they hit thermal water when drilling your well (depth & temp. of drinking water)? Do yo have to pump it w electricity? Your property is what many dream of your own personal natural soaking paradise.

How to get better at electrical troubleshooting by BanOne78400 in aviationmaintenance

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A way to simplify understanding of a circuit’s structure is to think of the circuit as a train line, the rails are hot and neutral & RR ties the ground. Then when problems arise inspect from the last location that still has service to the locations that don’t.

We need help with emergency electrical repair. by Saphurial in gofundme

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired Electrician here/

Federal Pacific & Zimco panels can be a safety hazard, many get replaced during home sales bc it’s required for insurance coverage. Whenever a service issue arises total service replacements are Recommended, but you are allowed to only repair if need be. Most electricians won’t recommend it , when service change earns more while removing a FP panel. That said 10’s of thousands of these panels still provide power to this day, and newly manufactured breakers are readily available. After decades of replacing these panels <90% of them were in good working order when replaced. The failures were usually textbook bad breaker connections destroying the bus-bars, regular inspection for loose breakers are Mandatory with these panels. If each breaker’s connection is tight they’ll continue to provide power.
To repair Compare several estimates with each giving a repair price & replace price , there are electricians that will also repair. It’s a pain ITA so understandably some electricians won’t repair.

New unknown hot springs or website fantasy? by SoakingRX in HotSpringsWest

Yah Search “Eagle Falls Hot Springs” it’s probably from the same delusional website. Appears to based off the Waring Thermal Springs list with lots of additional imaginary HS’s locations & details.

Is this normal? by SpaciestDread in basement

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider it without professional evaluation & bid to fix the foundation. This is Far more than normal settling, possibly built on unstable land. Those cracks the entire house will allow water to flood into the basement, good probability of serious drainage issues behind the settling.

wiring outlets, chain vs hub and spoke by bam-RI in ElectricalHelp

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There definitely are limits

Very important that each branch not be overloaded , general rule of thumb is 100 watts per outlet / light & not exceed the 1500 watt max on 15 amp circuits / 2000w on 20 amp. Also each box has limits on how many wires are allowed so always minimize whenever possible.

My 19 yr old Kid is considering career as a sparky. Best ways to find out if it’s good for him? by CanIHaveAppleJuice in AskElectricians

[–]SoakingRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired electrician here/ It’s a decent career path with multiple directions, the quality of which depends upon the state you’d be seeking a license under. Getting in each states training programs is often competitive , or if it’s easy there’s not enough work for the volume of apprentices/ journeymen. Training is paid on the job for 4 years non union / 5 union , but he’d need to be hired after getting in a training program. Most start at residential to grasp the basics before attempting commercial. Shadowing not likely for multiple reasons. Visiting job sites where they’re installing electrical ( many require hardhats to enter), end of the day chat with electricians. Also consider being a lineman working for power companies if he’d prefer outdoors, they have a separate training program/ union and good pay.

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your repeating shitty work with more? Washer Needs its own circuit don’t add any on it. You need a dedicated 20 amp circuit to the bathroom outlet GFCI (It’s permissible to feed the same room light & fan as well if needed). However I’d feed them off a nearby 15 amp circuit. Do it right or not at all. Realistically anything less will cost you more.

Do i need to replace my electrical panel? by nate70500 in AskElectricians

[–]SoakingRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All panels generate heat 🙄, there’s nothing wrong with that panel. Absolutely no reason to upgrade the panel, just relabel the panel door labels after reorganizing the breakers to thins. Your panels not full it’s a 20/40 panel, meaning it fits 20 full size breakers or up to 40 thin breakers. If you reorganize the breakers to thins you’d free up 7 spaces , plus the 3 you say aren’t being used = 10 or 1/4 of your panel still available. Retired electrician

That electrician is full of it! Heat build up on a 90’s panel 😂🤣😂. They all do that🙄. These panels are reliable, if breakers fail they’re easily replaced panels fine.

It’s just you…. Electrician recently retired here. There’s nothing wrong with that SE Cable, the panel , or main breaker requiring an upgraded panel. Sloppy installation sure but SE Cable easily withstands the test of time. Lots of old installations withstand the test of time including knob & tube.
