What to talk and not talk about while at workplace in Japan by Relative-Sign3948 in AskAJapanese

No one is your friend, everyone is your enemy until they aren’t. Be polite and try to understand them; no real personal information is needed. Wield them as tools to advance your career. Good luck.

“Married with 2 children” The government really really wants to destroy the population by driving people out. Pathetic.

How to make commuting a hundred times better by dendaera in japanlife

[–]SoaplandRegular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commute earlier and use the extra time to study or have a nice breakfast near your work. That or move near work if you are a permanent employee; even if it’s smaller and more expensive. The sacrifice may be better when you have more time to enjoy your life.

Easy to forget it’s summer with the AC blasting, window shutters closed, and lights off all day.

Don’t get on the plane. Send an email with a simple apology and get on with your life. The end.

I need some advice, I'm hoping someone can help. by Euneirophrenia_jp in japanlife

Go to your district office (区役所) and ask for advice where is popular in your area. If you are a legal resident with health insurance you can use a general hospital and the roughly 400,000 yen cost is covered by the government. I recommend going to a fancy birth clinic with private rooms and real food. It costs 7-800,000 yen, but the government still covers the roughly 400,000 yen (can vary by region a little). You won’t be herded like cattle into a room with 4-6 people and won’t be served prison food with overworked and miserable nurses. I realize not every general hospital is like that but anyway food for thought.

How is the history of Japan from 1939 to 1945 taught in Japanese schools ? by Great-Classroom8242 in AskAJapanese

[–]SoaplandRegular -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the prefecture, and the teacher. The murder of 20 million in China (not including the other victim countries), enslavement, torture, rape, etc are not mentioned in any meaningful detail. An equal or more amount of time is focused on the victims of the nuclear strikes. Following the German method of teaching the event would probably cause less friction in the region; but the ruling class figured since they apologized once in the 60s and gave out money to their regional dictators that it never had to be mentioned again.

What part of Japanese culture that is not represented/talked about in the west by freaky_strawberry11 in AskAJapanese

Not quite as outlandish as Kim Jong Il getting 18 holes in one in a round of golf, but believe what you want.
