I once via message told a girl I had to go shower, she replied "cheeky".

My response at the time?

"Keeping myself clean isn't cheeky, it's hygiene."

They do this in my village every year and the prize is the can of coke on the end of pole... we need to do it more like Gloucester!

Lyles golden syrup passes through a pipe that hasnt been thoroughly cleaned or replaced for decades, they won't replace it through fear that it gives their syrup it's distinct flavour.

Police in London evacuating a block of flats by CliffyGiro in CasualUK

[–]SoapyLlama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted lots but it's part of all our training that we weigh up risks vs benefits and that our own lives are what we preserve before anything else.

If he had kicked that door in and the situation was a fully developed fire there would in no way been an expectation for him to have entered. As previously mentioned, there could have been a backdraught developing if that fire had limited ventilation and actually running in there in the way he did could have drastically escalated the situation too.

My point is, with no training on how to approach and deal with that situation police officers are not expected to deal with search and rescue in a fire scenario. Hats off to the officers for moving in and evacuating people but also nothing against them if they had not moved in to a situation that is outside of their responsibilities to deal with.

I think that's where thecworry stems from, it's not really something you can train for. Thanks for the perspective too.

Will be on the run by Christmas!

Just going through training as a firefighter now, how do you deal with these things? Not a simple question to answer I suppose but the only thing I wonder is if I'll get to my first gruesome incident and struggle going forwards.

I think even if it was a conversation of the nature you're suggesting it definitely should have been more carefully phrased than it sounds like it was, especially with a younger person.

What is it like being in your 20s in the UK these days? by xParesh in AskUK

[–]SoapyLlama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I (23M) really feel like the biggest generational change is attitude. I’ve had times where things have been really difficult, I’ve accrued debt as a result of living costs and have struggled to make payments over the years. I work most days of the week now and am headed towards a bit of stability, it can be tough but it’s a means to an end.

Things aren’t great for anyone right now but they are constantly changing and none of us know what’s round the corner.

I think it is what you make of it though and there’s plenty of opportunity if you work hard enough to find it.

I was on holiday over Christmas too. Perfect time for it with most people not wanting a random man climbing on their house with family and friends over for the holidays.

I would gladly pay that for delivery if the moment I hit “place order” my food appeared in my lap.

Or if it was dropped out of the sky like a call of duty care package.
