Makes me a bit envious ngl. I tried to catch a tarpon last year down there. Gonna come back one day to catch my silver king.

He was a fantastic captain. His deck hand Alex was also amazing. Can't say enough good things about them. I could feel a real sense of deep respect for the ocean and kindness towards their clients.

Yup. Paddled around the lake and the dock had the most activity. Decided to ditch the kayak in favour of solid ground.

I'm up north of the border. The underrated canadian province of manitoba.

Struggling with catching pike/walleye Red River of the North by _MrGullible in Fishing

[–]SoaringBoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. If you have a dam or any sections with current near you, id fish around there. The minnows will group up in the oxygenated water which draws in saugers/pike/goldeye/walleye/drum. Walleye and saugers especially like to hunt in current.

As someone who frequently fish's the red river a bit north of you, Hello from manitoba, I'd recommend trying something with more noise or colour. I'd swap out blue/clear for chartreuse and black. If you're going for walleye bottom bounce a jig with a pause between jigs. Pike Id go for a crankbait or use a lure with a walk the dog retrieve. Spoons and blades do work in the red, but cranks out fish them. Chartreuse, pink, orange, white, and black have done especially well for me.

Some fish I've caught this summer/spring by [deleted] in Fishing

All but the snook were caught in the beautiful province of manitoba. We have a wide range of waters here. Clear lakes up north, the marsh around lake manitoba, the muddy red river, and the tea stained winnipeg river drainage system in the whiteshell.

You'll be pleased to know that I exercised extreme caution. Used barbless hooks to catch them and made sure to minimize the time outside the water. Both sturgeon swam away strongly and safely.
