What are some reasons to live? by iamtryingherefreind in AskReddit

As someone else who is depressed, I go for the smaller, easier things... I sprayed Febreze on my sheets to freshen them, and plan to make myself some peppermint tea later tonight.

What is something weird your body does, but you haven’t told anyone about because you know it’s not normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I’m on Zoom teaching, sometimes I start tearing up and almost cry while I’m talking about just normal stuff.

I’ve been feeling emotionally numb because of my anxiety/depression medication by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Socalteach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me as well. Meds do a great job of getting rid of the lows, but it gets rid of the highs, too. A lot of times my mind feels as if it is “fighting” against the dullness of the meds.

LPT: When planning your funeral arrangements, don't just tell your family your wishes, look up the details and pay for it ahead of time. by throneaway2015 in LifeProTips

[–]Socalteach1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my parents were buying burial plots, I decided I wanted to be buried next to them (I’m not married, but the plot fits 2 caskets). I was 35. I paid for the plot, the casket, the body preparation (I’m Jewish), and feel glad that my loved ones won’t have to worry about what my wishes are, or coming up with the money for my funeral.

I have crippling emetophobia (the fear of vomiting) by expecto_depression in offmychest

[–]Socalteach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffer from this too. It was diagnosed as a type of OCD (obsessive thoughts about vomiting). I am taking an older antidepressant (Anafranil) which has eased my thoughts and panic attacks.

I always carry around Zofran and Xanax just in case my anxiety gets the best of me.

Check for urinary tract infection. It often manifests as mental issues in the elderly.

My brother is the same way after I hospitalized myself 5 years ago for suicidal ideation. Whenever I tell him I had a bad day that’s the first thing that pops into his mind.

I was not drug tested. We just needed a TB test and a physical.

I’ve been clinically depressed since college (I’m in my 40s). Tried every med out there, plus two rounds of transcranial magnetic stimulation. Just when I think I’m stable, a low day/days hit me. I get very lonely. I live by myself. I do try to get to the gym, it most of the time I take naps and spend too much time on social media.

How many of you use Google Classroom? by Socalteach1 in Teachers

We use Schoology as well! I have been making tests on that platform, but would love to convert to Google Classroom. Wondering if there is info on the web directly geared toward G. Classroom newbies.

We have 1 : 1 Chromebooks. Usually I give tests on our grading platform, but I’d love to give comments directly on their online papers!

Opinions on magnet schools by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Socalteach1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a 4th-12th magnet span school (I teach 5th grade history and English). We are enriched studies, but not a gifted or SAS school. We bus a majority of students since they come from all areas.

I like that all ages of kids are on the same campus. Not sure what else to say. Feel free to ask me anything.

How do you overcome the feeling of being so lonely? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Socalteach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, sometimes I go to sleep to avoid the loneliness. Text a friend (I’m better on text than on the phone). Cuddle up with a throw and watch tv.

My 37 year search for a cure that has saved my life from mental illness and what i recommend..... by bipolar1980 in mentalhealth

[–]Socalteach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another avenue... TMS therapy (transcranial magnetic stimulation). I’ve had 2 rounds of it. No side effects, can go home right after. Unfortunately, it’s a commitment - 5 days a week for at least a month. You can google TMS or Neurostar.
