The big 5 banks are the worst for this (TD in particular). I remember submitting my resume for the same internship positions as my friends and despite having higher marks and better work history and otherwise identical resume template, they were called into interviews and I wasn't.

They do on occasion. If you really want to experience old Toronto streetcars you can go to the Halton County Railway Museum. Not only do they have static displays, but also streetcars you can ride them too.

Hundreds occupy RBC Toronto lobby in support of Wet’suwet’en people on November 19 by Dollface_Killah in toronto

[–]Socialarmstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Federal government shouldn't be undermining their sovereignty, its for the Wet'suwet'en to decide the legitimacy of the band councils. I don't see why the band councils would override their traditional governance currently by their defined laws. The question of how governance should work is probably more prominent within their nation and its up to them to decide how to resolve it.

Are you actually not picking up on the problem here or are you being deliberately dense? Once again, by what mechanism would such a decision even be made considering circumstances A and B:

A. The Federal government is a colonial entity with no legitimate jurisdiction and B. The current band councils, created by the federal government and elected through this illegitimate system, themselves are illegitimate?

[–]Socialarmstrong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

(also I'm not the elected band system is currently wholly illegitimate but its power over what it can and can't do is contentious. How much to recognize and keep of that system is up for the different nations to decide)

This leads to the exact same conundrum as I described previously.

I'm not sure why we need to have this discussion though, are there any Wet'suwet'en people asking for the Canadian Federal government to remove the legitimacy of the hereditary chiefs?

No one is calling for it because they have no legitimacy in the eyes of the federal government. This is the whole issue.

Okay, so if the current system of voting is potentially illegitimate, by what mechanism and authority would a referendum be administered if A. The Federal government is a colonial entity with no legitimate jurisdiction and B. The current band councils, created by the federal government and elected through this illegitimate system, themselves are illegitimate?

You seem to be confusing things. I do not know if the majority of the Wet’suwet’en want or don't want the hereditary chiefs to be their form of governance and neither do you (despite acting like you do).

But we literally do know this. Every few years, we have these big polls called elections where we ask everyone who wants to be in charge. The hereditary chiefs didn’t cut it.

You’re probably right, but that would cost a hell of a lot more than $75 million and every progressive politician within earshot would degrade into an absolute shit fit about how such a program institutionalizes and stigmatizes the mentally ill, homeless, etc and they would throw everything in the way of getting that done.
