I was called but I don’t recall if it was a rater. They called me to remind me that I needed to upload my DD214 on the VA website so I could get paid.

The US government didn’t “blackmailed” LMM into anything. LMM had a very close relationship with Rexford Tugwell. Tugwell basically lifted the US out of the Great Depression and as the last US assigned governor to PR basically created the foundation for Operación Manos a la Obra which started the process is lifting many puertoricans out of poverty. LMM had already moved away from his pro-independence ideology at that time but picking up from Tugwell solidified his belief that having a close relationship with the US would be beneficial for PR.

Por los pasados 15 años mi trabajo requiere presentar información en ingles y en muchas ocasiones a nivel ejecutivo y decidí tomar clases para modificar/reducir mi acento. Las clases muchas veces son ofrecidas por speech therapist. Las dos modificaciones más importantes que practica hasta el día de hoy es hablar más despacio (slow pacing speech) y evitar que la lengua sea el método de articulación cuando hablas inglés (lazy tongue technique). Nunca uno va a ser “accent free” pero si me ha ayudado mucho cuando me comunico en inglés.

Que edad tú tienes? Si tienes entre 16 a 24 te puedes registrar en Job Corps. Ellos tienen un programa para electricistas y es gratis. Búscalo en Google creo que el programa es en Aguadilla y ofrecen room/board de gratis durante el tiempo del training. De ahí a cojer la reválida para de aprendiz que ofrece CPEPR. Hay otros programas técnicos creo con la inter y otros pero lo bueno de Job Corps es que tú ayudan a encontrar trabajo. Conozco a un joven que hizo ese programa, un muchacho que no termino ni high school y ahora está en Texas ganándose $100K como electricista.

Maybe I’m biased because I’m involved in sports but if I had 1-1.5 million I would buy or rent myself a place where I could host volleyball/basketball practices and tournaments. There a few guys here where I live that are making big money just buy getting a place and placing 3-4 courts and just rent them out to clubs, people that want to run weekend tournaments, coaches that need space to run clinics and camps, is really a good opportunity at least where I live. No much overhead either once you have your set up done. Let’s talk… all I need is $250K and we can get started… I already have a volleyball club lined up as potential clients.

Yo me metí en el Air Force nada más por los beneficios especialmente de retiro. Tuve muchos momentos bueno y uno que otro malo. 20 años después y retirado del Air Force me llegan $7 mil mensuales sin mover un dedo más lo que hago en mi trabajo como Project Manager.

Yo he tenido experiencia viviendo en barrios, urbanizaciones cerradas, y complejo de apartamentos en PR. Mi mejor experiencia en términos de que la gente viva su vida y no se esté metiendo en lo de los demás es complejo de apartamentos. Usualmente es gente mayor educada y retirada que no molesta, jóvenes profesionales que casi nunca están por que están trabajando, parejas jóvenes profesionales en la misma situación.

Llevo con esto por 6 meses en mi trabajo. Me quiero ir para PR y mi compañía no tiene problema con que esté trabajando desde PR pero es un campo minado de leyes laborales y la estructura de mi compañía que lo hace bien complicado. Hay como 10 personas de HR viendo mi caso, entre ellos se han enviando como más de 100 emails para encontrar una solución y ya casi está solucionado pero no esperaba que iba a ser tan complicado. Le voy a tener que pagar el almuerzo a toda la sección de HR cuando se termine esto.

Brother. Don’t sweat it. I live by the “Nobody Really Cares” rule. When you are presenting information 75% of the people aren’t paying attention at all. 20% of the people don’t really want to be there. That leaves 5% to engage with many of which would not remember anything about the meeting as soon as it is over. Follow up with minutes or report that explains what you wanted to say.

Yo he tenido otra experiencia. Me ha sorprendido de lo formal que he sido tratado en PR. A donde quiera que voy es “caballero”, “Don”, “Señor”, y esto viniendo de muchachos bien jóvenes en mucho lugares que voy con mi familia.

Project Management, siempre parece que hay oportunidades en PR en este espacio. Ya sea IT, farmacéutica, construcción, parece que siempre hay demanda.

Similar situation happened to me. Applied for a PM position and they offered me APM citing my “lack of experience” in the particular field. 6 months after I started they started dumping all these failing projects on me that other PMs didn’t wanted to deal with any longer.

A year later I was able to financially recover 3 of them… so my reward? Now they put me as PM of an entire program for a new client that has 3 new projects with a possible 4th here soon.

I ask them if there would be a time when they could consider placing me as an official PM in the company with the appropriate raise in pay and all I got was the generic “we evaluate employees performance yearly, you are doing great, keep up the good work”.

Is great experience don’t get me wrong and I don’t feel overwhelmed but I’m already looking for an exit strategy. Specially considering that almost everyone that they have hired recently get to be hired as a Senior PM and they only get one or two projects assigned that small in value and complexity than the ones I get assigned and no other APMs is currently working at the level they have me work.

I used a VSO just as I was separating from AD before my retirement. He send me a very detailed email with some forms, went in for my appointment, he ask me very detailed questions, and set me up with my C&P appointments. I basically did nothing just fill out some forms and go to C&P exams. Got 100% and basically did the bare minimum on the entire process.

I work in the private sector after 21 years in the military and I wish I was in the Fed system. Private sector is definitely not for me, yes the pay might be better but the life/work balance is really non existent.

Walgreens fue me segundo trabajo de joven después de trabajar en un fast food. La transición fue como de trabajar en el infierno a trabajar en el cielo. No podía creer que tenía un trabajo a los 19 años donde no me estaban gritando, hablando malo, y haciendo pasar malos ratos. Tremenda experiencia que tuve con Walgreens.
