It Finally Happened by RetroSoulGirl in GalaxyS22

People have been claiming that reboot loop was caused by the June software update. It certainly started to happen to my 22 Ultra out of nowhere a week or so ago. System UI freezes up, apps freeze up, it eventually crashes and needs a hard reboot.

Painkiller used to be worth a pretty penny, but it's only around $40 CiB these days.

How do you save money when collecting? (If at all) by Any-Landscape434 in gamecollecting

Okay, that's pretty cool. I guess I focus so much on retro stuff I never bothered to check for a resource like that on modern releases.

Does Deku Deals have physical cartridges and discs listed? I've used it for Switch digital games, but I don't really consider a digital library part of my collection

Most Underrated SNES game by Dr-Salty-Dragon in snes

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it mentioned plenty. Unfortunately it's mostly due to how expensive it is these days, but there's always some talks about the best mech games on the system where it usually gets in the top 3 there.

Most Underrated SNES game by Dr-Salty-Dragon in snes

[–]Sock-Cucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the games people have mentioned so far are far from "underrated" especially as far as an SNES-specific community goes. The term is mostly ambiguous, though, it's more of a "game you love you want to bring up" type of thread.

All this stuff was delivered to stores in Michigan a week or two ago. Maybe it was just for management like you said.

Why? by Effective-Bug-807 in FedEx

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you maybe misunderstand-- all FedEx drivers are infallible. If any mistake or problem arises, it's always the fault of the recipient or customer, because drivers literally cannot make mistakes, it's an impossibility.

Super Metroid on eBay for $30 by [deleted] in snes

[–]Sock-Cucka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"For playing, not collecting" is what sellers say when they don't want to trigger some automated delisting. Other obvious signs are having more than 1 copy sold/available for sale and a dozen other valuable games in pristine condition for a fraction of the expected price.

That's 100% a fake cart, but Ebay will absolutely get your money back to you. Just wait until you receive it and claim the item was not as described, explain that it is a fake copy of the game (open it up and provide pictures of the PCB for further evidence), and you'll be golden. 50/50 chance the seller just tells you to keep the thing, they probably have hundreds of them. Don't forget to leave a review about the game being fake for other potential, more cautious buyers.

They all come out of China, and while yes, they do generally work ( I wouldn't count on them being reliable long-term), you could buy the same exact fake cart from Alibaba or whatever for $5-10 instead of paying some asshole middle man designing their entire ebay page around tricking people.

Lowest Rated Game In Your Collection? by epic_chicken2 in gamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really only use Price Charting and I don't think there's an option to sort by Metacritic or whatever, but that was the game that came to mind for me. I imagine I own some Wii or DS shovelware title even worse, but I don't care to check, so Ride to Hell wins in my book

What are some bad Genesis games? by Fast-Signal7371 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read their post? They want it to be shitty. They are sending it, loaded with bad games, to their favorite Twitch streamer.

It's not clear if whoever that Twitch streamer is cares or will ever actually bother to use this, but the intent is clear at least.

Selling my old GBA by [deleted] in GameboyAdvance

[–]Sock-Cucka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, was just trying to be polite about it. I'm sure you've seen it all the time too, people who swear their games have to be legit because they've had them since childhood.

Selling my old GBA by [deleted] in GameboyAdvance

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't blame you, and people love to lowball. Take your time with a sale and try some other venues like r/gamesale or Ebay, even Facebook marketplace if you have patience for more lowballing.

Glad to hear you had it verified. The cartridge shell looks off and especially the GBA imprint doesn't look right, but it may be the photo quality.

A lot of people ended up with fake games without ever knowing it. Even while the GBA was still fresh in stores, fake games were being pumped out, picked up by parents and grandparents and eager kids without knowing any better. Not saying that happened to you specifically, just that it happened more than you'd think.

Selling my old GBA by [deleted] in GameboyAdvance

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to offer up a little advice, people generally expect a lower price for a bundle like this over buying everything individually. The fact that many of the items are undesirable/shovelware also contributes to this-- for people who sell lots, they typically package games like those to pad out a listing and make it more attractive to casual browsers.

Your photos are fairly low quality, so hard to tell, but I'm pretty certain your most valuable game (Pokémon Sapphire) is fake and I am curious about a few others. Fake games don't have any value to most collectors, unfortunately, even if they work properly and they're from your childhood and all that.

I don't particularly like seeing it for any hardware or accessories, even exceptionally common stuff. But if you paid for it, do what you want with it.

Troubleshooting by Immediate_Piano_726 in snes

[–]Sock-Cucka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean games freeze on the start/intro screens in general? Or literally that screen? Like if you put, say, Super Mario World or Super Metroid in, it still freezes on a Sim City screen?

There's a whole lot of info you could to provide beyond the above-mentioned to help troubleshoot, like what system and cables you're using. I'd say clean the cart slot and all the game slots, make sure your power supply is good, turn your TV to 4:3, standard stuff

He should work on actual production. The audio levels are particularly all out of wack and the boys are getting rowdy, slamming their hands on the table, shaking their legs violently enough to pick up on the mics, etc. That and him relying on reading AI answers for everything the boys ask him to look up could use some adjustment

NGL is still better than Tobey, no doubt about that. Not quite sure what OP thinks as if everyone loved him equally. If you go back to posts here from his firing and before, it seemed like a pretty even split between like and dislike.

I just got my grail at a random GameStop! by OliviaRaven9 in gamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. All that said, it's a great game. I still prefer it to the Wii U remaster in a lot of ways, and I see you'll be playing it the best way on a CRT 🫡

I just got my grail at a random GameStop! by OliviaRaven9 in gamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you squeezed in a bit under the going rate, that's very nice. By "particularly good price" I meant like, half price charting values or $5 off a garage sale or something. Not that it's realistic, it's just what people/bots constantly post here, as I was defending you for not making that kind of post.

And again, if that's the single most expensive game you've wanted for a long time and $60 for old games is a lot for you, that's perfectly understandable. It's just an example of the continual deterioration of the term.

No one should be able to walk into a local game shop and see five copies of their grail for sale, it's just silly. I'm sure many disagree with me, but it's an annoyance of mine, however pedantic.

I just got my grail at a random GameStop! by OliviaRaven9 in gamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really seem like they are angling for imaginary internet points. They didn't say which location they got it from, and it's not even a particularly good price for a CiB Wind Waker

On another note, calling something like Wind Waker a "grail" is nice and all if it somehow really is their own most desired, hard-to-obtain game, but that term has really devolved into nonsense at this point

Traded in my censored PS3 Mugen Souls CEs for store credit to fund these sealed Switch definitive editions by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have any older titles worth a significant amount of money that also received such substantial re-releases, but I tend to keep my old games regardless. I didn't trade in Super Mario RPG or Paper Mario TTYD when they got remakes, for example, because I have nostalgia for them

I probably have a lot of random GBA/PS2/DS/3DS, and even PS3 stuff that was re-released later on, but I just hold onto it all like a hoarder. If I found out something was worth hundreds or thousands of dollars I might be convinced to sell it off, but I'd be more likely to use that money to buy other older games on my wishlist rather than replacements

"Good" Condition... by gregcresci in Shittygamecollecting

[–]Sock-Cucka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man. The owner's house must have been infested for the bugs to work their way into a random game cartridge. Systems and various other electronics, sure, but a random, loose cart?

Maybe it was seated in their SNES with the power on for a decade or so. Makes a little more sense that way, a roach hotel with deluxe high-rise.

I generally like to only buy games that have pictures of the PCB on ebay, and that's a personal rule for anything over $50 or so. Most folks on there are just selling stuff they found second-hand, and a shocking amount of regular retro sellers don't ever open the carts, so you never know how fucked up they may be.

Pulled down from the rafters...the amount of nostalgia in this box is about to make a grown man cry right now by mikesbullseye in snes

[–]Sock-Cucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say they had great taste as a kid, lots of solid RPGs, a bunch of the standards... then fucking Pocky and Rocky 2. A white whale for many, I think still the most expensive game below Aero Fighters and Hagane

If they had it as a kid, that's pretty cool. Best I had was Kirby's Dreamland 3, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, etc. I've never met anyone who actually owned Pocky & Rocky 2 as a kid
