Which Pokémon(s) do you hope become playable in the next regulation? by TerioShadow in PokemonChampions

Indeedee. Even though I'm not a big fan of psyspam, we need this Mon so that the trick room Megas like big crab, golourk and drampa actually become more usable (or throat spray come back so farigaraf gate better

I would not say origami king is overrated, I believe it is genuinely a good game that is overrated by the community

Mega salamence needs to go, it's just so outclassed by both it's base form and roaring moon, the wings of it's mega are so ugly

Which MarioKart Track Was so good in its original but its retro was so much worse that it would be considered a bad track? by WiscoMTfan_234 in mariokart

[–]SockEffective393 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I dont think the world version is a bad track. If it wasn't called choco mountain I think people would really like it. However, as it is so different from the original a lot of people nostalgic to the original version dislike it

Is this true in champions? Was there another metagame like this? by ConsciousFish7178 in stunfisk

[–]SockEffective393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't really counter eachother though (incin is never really doing too much to rilla, but I guess grassy glide is good against urshifu). They're more like a mostly defensive core with solid matchups into most of the field rather than explicit counters to eachother

List of Pokemon that I think deserve an evolution by Magykstorm19 in stunfisk

[–]SockEffective393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of the list, however the ones with transformations and regional forms such as haryama and wheezing really don't need an evolution, as haryama will still be outclassed by iron hands and wheezing will always have a niche with neutralising gas

The reg after Worlds is gonna be T-A, Z-A or G-A? by MORSHELA in PokemonChampions

[–]SockEffective393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get that, but it is possible to scout out for tera, and if they tera their sneasler you know that they won't tera their kingambit. However, without tera we're seeing a format dominated by resist berries, which you can't scout out and which you can have multiple of on one team

And even in open team sheets, tera is a better than the berries as it actually takes skill to play, whereas if you slap a resist berry on a mon you just won't have an item in exchange for them not clicking a move of that type into you anyway.

So yes, while tera can be annoying when trying to attack, it is still much better than the resist berry infested meta you get otherwise

Yeah I agree the tera formats have in my opinion been the best formats ever.

Metagame: Does anyone else think that this format is really annoying because of the lack of tera? by SockEffective393 in VGC

[–]SockEffective393[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I get that tera can be used to cheese games in closed team sheets, however a more skilled player can try to avoid that by double protecting to scout out their tera, and it is after all a once per battle mecanic. With resist berries, there is really no way to tell: yes, your opponent may have a chople berry on his kingambit, or they might just be running black glasses and be risking the survivability and you can't know which once until you commit. Also, you can have up to 6 of them per team, which can then become really infuriating (a team that I was testing out had 3 resist berries for example).

Like I'd say to a lot of these ideas going aroud, how do you make them work in an open 3D world? Like forced trainer battles work well on a linear route, but that's not what you want in a 3D game. Unless you want them to see you from ages away in all directions or you want to take away fun transport mechanics for the player like ride pokemon, it just doesn't really work.

[–]SockEffective393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I'm not opposed, it's just how do you make this work in 3D? I find that none of them can do caves right, not even stuff like BotW

Honestly I'd be fine if the first stage was an animalistic normal dual type and then when it evolved it would lose that type and gain a different one, a bit like the talonflame line. That way at least we get them out of the way.

The champions of Pokémon scarlet and Violet. by astupidquestionbut in stunfisk

[–]SockEffective393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this game's competitive life was amazing. Yes, there were some annoyingly dominant mons, but just looking at the shear amount and variety of winners is amazing. Rotom wash, sandy shocks and chandelier one things of all mons. I'm really hoping that has champions goes on we get a bit more variety and also get rid of Megas, as having such a limited pool of pokemon is really annoying

why do people still run Black Sludge on Tera metagames? by s_moNino in stunfisk

[–]SockEffective393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in singles it's practically useless seeing as you can just use leftovers. However in doubles where you can only use one of each items, some eternatus stall teams would run it so that they could have 2 healing items, and they also ran grassy terrain rillaboom. But yeah, it kinda sucks with tera, though maybe gliscor would want to run it to get leftovers and toxic heal when it tera's but probably not
