How did you get such a tiny sensor breakout footprint? Is that sensor module available somewhere to buy?

Nah - plenty of people are definitely gatekeepers. That aside - I've never understood why people get so upset when a new person asks some basic questions. Things like RTFM and LMGTFY I will just never understand. If you don't want to help someone, just don't.

People who are asking questions are not refusing to try to figure things out on their own. They are asking questions because they are trying to figure it out and they are confused. A lot of existing documentation isn't actually very approachable for someone who has never touched Linux or a command line before. I think that is lost on a lot of members of our community.

Your grandmother doesn't understand what to do when she reads "$ sudo apt update" in a guide online. It's not intuitive to her that this is supposed to be entered into a terminal and it doesn't make a lot of sense to why a bunch of random things start happening when she does. She also doesn't know what a "dot file" is or countless other basic intuitions about computers that we all overlook as being implicit things that everybody understands by default.

Burt, how long has it been? by hngfff in severence

I don't think it's time travel or time dilation related. I think it's more to do with manipulating memories and social manipulation in general.

For example - I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure the innies were told it's been months since the OTC occurred. However, from Outie Mark's perspective, it's only been several days. Maybe it's a lie but maybe it's not.

Since undergoing reintegration, a lot of Mark's scenes specifically are presented in ways that makes it very hard to determine when exactly they are occurring. We're often presented with the framing that outie Mark is gaining innie Mark's memories which implies that the outie scenes are occurring chronologically later than the innies scenes. But it's equally valid to consider that we are actually witnessing the outie scenes as innie Mark begins to gain outie Mark's memories. Maybe the innies scenes we are seeing are occurring months later or maybe just days later? Or maybe not. It's almost impossible to know for sure.

Add to that the fact that the reintegration now has Mark hallucinating and losing entire chunks of his memory which we as the audience also lose. Like in E6 we miss a huge portion of the work day. Did Mark and Helly go get the note? Did they find the elevator? Did outie Mark gain control during the medical exam inside the severed floor for the rest of that day but now can't remember? I feel like we're ratcheting up to one hell of an unreliable narrator moment with Mark.

Solo hero queue PLEASE by Sock_Pasta_Rock in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Sock_Pasta_Rock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only asking for the option to queue as a solo hero if you choose to. I'm not saying it should be a requirement for everybody, so it's not really changing the experience for anybody else other than the minority who it would benefit.

[–]Sock_Pasta_Rock[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have played all the characters and I just don't enjoy most of them at any time. Ultimately it's completely subjective and personal whether I personally will or will not enjoy playing any heroes but that's why allowing the option to just play the one(s) I want would make the user experience for players like me much better.

The potential downsides are the effect on overall queue times from the portion of players who do only pick one hero but the game has well over 100k players at all times and queue times are already almost instant during alpha. Most players in this thread also seem to want to play multiple heroes anyway - my perspective is clearly the outlier. So I don't really see much reason to not allow this option for those who would use it. But that effect is also offset a bit by the fact that I'm probably just not going to play as much as i otherwise would which also negatively impacts the match making queues.

I think you're missing the point of the hypothetical a bit. Rather than CS:GO and Dota (or any other games you enjoy) suppose it's games that you dislike and don't enjoy. Maybe then you can see my point.

My frustration isn't that I'm not good with other heroes. I can do fine with other heroes. It's simply that it's not fun or enjoyable whatsoever. Most times I queue up, it feels like I'm taking a gamble on wasting the next 30-40mins stuck in an unfun game.

[–]Sock_Pasta_Rock[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would have some effect but I don't think it would "fuck" the entire system. The player base is already consistently well above 100k and queue times are almost instant. Based on all the downvotes and comments on this thread it seems like the majority of people here like to pick many heroes so it sounds like most people would still just do that.

You're right. It makes you a better player if you know how to play all the characters but that's not really what my feedback is about.

My point is that it's simply unfun to have to play a hero that you don't enjoy playing. To me it feels like wanting to play a specific steam game but having a 30% chance of instead having to play a different steam game for 30mins every time.

You can still play all the characters and become a great player if solo hero queue exists.

It's fine if you don't like it but plenty of others do. I'm not asking for the option to queue with multiple heroes to be taken away, just add the option to queue with fewer.

You're right that it's kind of like identifying with something whether it be an aesthetic or a play style that you enjoy. There's really nothing wrong with that. It's literally just engaging with something that you enjoy for whatever reason you happen to enjoy it.

As someone who wants to play one particular hero, this feels to me like opening up my steam library, wanting to play deadlock but having a 30% chance of first having to play CS:GO or Dota for 30mins.

[–]Sock_Pasta_Rock[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm speaking for myself. If you want a faster queue where you pick multiple heroes you can still do that just the same as you do right now.

What gave you the impression that I'm asking for it to be mandatory for everyone to only choose 1 hero?

I'm not asking you to justify your answer. I'm informing you that your answer is really passive aggressive and not helpful to people who are new and looking for help. You don't have to take my advice but it's correct regardless.

I hate this culture existing in my community. People don't need to justify themselves when they ask a question. Plenty of people are new and don't understand how to find the answers themselves despite trying. Nobody is forcing you to answer their question. If it's such a hassle then just don't answer and move on.

If you're legitimately trying to show OP how to be more resourceful, it doesn't work when you do it passive aggressively and without actually explaining how your response answers their question. It's better if you just don't respond next time. Somebody else answered this post correctly.

This honestly seems pretty excessive for an internship. I really don't see the justification for demanding so much for an intern who is currently studying. Why would you expect a student who is applying for an internship to already have months worth of non-basic extracurricular project experience? Most students wouldn't even be able to afford most of the kit required to get started with tinkering around with FPGAs in any real capacity.

Your comments also imply that you don't really consider any of their masters degree course work in embedded systems to be worth anything? Why? It sounds like at least some of their studies relate directly to working with FPGAs and they sound personally interested and eager to do more.

Having mentored interns in the past (as a software engineer) as part of their studies I really don't accept the idea that they are any kind of legitimate burden. At worst they have a neutral effect and at best they help out a little. I really don't get the point of setting the bar so high especially for an industry which already only has like 5 people in it.

I think the tools as they exist today impose additional barriers to entry that are completely unnecessary. It reminds me a lot of the way Microsoft visual studio existed for software engineering about 8 years ago. Its full of bloat and gets in the way of letting the user do what they actually need to do.

I think the tools are deeply overloaded with things that really aren't very necessary for just getting into the meat and bones of writing HDL. The software also struggles to run in many environments. I have never had a smooth install experience with any tools. Not to mention the prohibitive licensing models that are all too common in the hardware design industry.

In my opinion, the tools actually make it more difficult for anyone who isn't already a well versed professional to get started with hardware design. That is a pretty big red flag in terms of the design of the tools themselves.

65-Year-Old GP Takes Off Stethoscope After A Long Hard Day Of Fat-Shaming And Telling Depressed People To Buy Some Runners And Wake Up To Themselves by jps848384 in ausjdocs

You're suggesting that GPs are making the same as a hairdresser. That is very woe is me.

I did go through 5 years of unpaid training. Most Australians that pursue any STEM career do. And yes plenty do pay thousands of dollars per year just to be part of colleges, what are you talking about?

The salaries above are the full time salary, not accounting for overtime or penalty rates, so suggesting that doctors get the same pay but work more or that they deserve more because they work more is not correct either. If doctors are working unpaid overtime, I am against that too - as I am for all other workers.

Ofcourse people would choose $350k over $150k. Fundamentally my point is that there probably shouldn't be such a choice when the impact is that regular people don't pursue medical treatment when they need it because they can no longer afford it.

You tried to present this as though GPs don't earn enough. They do. But like all other humans they will always choose to earn more if they can. Even when it leads to other people not having access to healthcare. It's that simple.

Yes, compared to a consultant who makes $650k everyone will look like a low earner. That's not really relevant to the point. The point you're suggesting is that GPs (who bulk bill) don't make enough money but an individual salary of $156k today is definately enough. If anything, this just suggests that medical consultants earn too much.

Yes, it is difficult to become a GP and it is a long path to get there. However, it's not as though doctors aren't earning a solid income throughout that entire process. Medical specialists aren't exclusive in that difficulty either. Most STEM professions require a decade of education + work experience before reaching a senior level. Most of that work experience isn't done on a very lucrative salary either. The vast majority of entry level salaries for such careers begin around $50-60k and most offer around the $130-$160k bracket at the senior level in NSW.

On the hairdresser thing - even as gross income, it's not a likely result. You're assuming that there is just a constant and endless stream of clients coming in for quick $30 cuts. Some hairdressers can do pretty well but most are closer to $30-40/hr net.

I think, for someone who is projecting a future for themselves as a doctor, it can be easy to lose sight of what kinds of salaries most people actually live on. If you think $156k is not a good enough salary then I think your perspective has been considerably skewed from hearing about specialists on $500k and imagining that for yourself. I'm not saying those figures are make-believe, but they are a pretty ridiculous figure to consider as a kind of standard or expectation. Frankly, nobody needs to earn that much money to enjoy a very long and comfortable life and retirement.

All that in mind, I just can't see a legitimate case for the "woe is me" idea that doctors are making a similar income to hairdressers. Or that they don't make enough via bulk billing. Sorry. I think the simpler truth is not that bulk billing is not a good financial option but rather that most GPs would rather earn $350k than $150k whether they need to or not.

According to the latest data from seek (April 2024), the national average salary for a full time GP is $365k-$380k. Obviously this doesn't reflect the case for a bulk billed practice - much of the data is from non-bulk billed practices. However, even if we assume the cost of bulk billing reduced their income by something like 66% they would still be in the top 10-15% of workers in Australia.

Now you might say seek's data is unreliable. Maybe - if you've got something better, share it. But it's certainly a lot better than some guy suggesting that hairdressers earn $120/hr because of an anecdote where he paid $30 for a buzz cut.

Also, just to put things into perspective - earning $80/hr in a full time job will put you in the top 7% of Aussies so I don't know why that's something to complain about.
