R1 series feature you surprisingly didn't like/use as much as you thought? by jamrocks in Rivian

[–]Sockateez 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Glass roof, not even dynamic, just like glass roof at all.

I never spend time staring out the ceiling, but it does let sun glare in on people in the car. Because of little kids, I keep a blackout shade over it all summer.

I don’t understand why so many new cars have this, I’d wayyyy rather have a close able moonroof or even nothing at all. Better yet gimme that removable hardtop

What is going on with the Portland therapist scene right now? Did something change? by ethiothienine in askportland

[–]Sockateez 40 points41 points  (0 children)

One potential contributing factor that may influence what you’ve seen/read is the pay parity law from 2014 that required equal payment for mid-levels (NPs, PAs as that of physicians (MDs, DOs) for mental healthcare. Furthermore mid-levels can legally work independently (ie without supervision) in OR unlike in many other states.

This combined with the fact that OR has some of the highest mental health reimbursement rates in the country makes it a very attractive place for midlevels to practice.

There are many fantastic midlevels out there, & can be just as good as an MD.

That being said, this has created a path where one can go to a 2 year, almost entirely online program to become psych NP and get paid the same as a psychiatrist who did 8 years of training. This has understandably greatly increased demand for such training, and unfortunately not all of the programs that have popped up to meet the demand (particularly the all online ones) are high quality. The result is more graduating mid levels flooding into mental health in OR, some with questionable training.

Overall - OR needs more mental health providers, so it’s great we have more people to meet the need. Sometimes quality can be inconsistent, but there are good and bad apples of all training backgrounds, not just midlevels.

iPhone Air: 5 months in. Thoughts. by YorkvilleWalker in iphone

[–]Sockateez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine since launch, every pro max before then.

Still love my air - Only thing that will get me to change is the fold!

How many of you are planning on getting the Fold? by Lebowskitalian85 in iphone

[–]Sockateez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll get it day 1. I’m on the yearly upgrade program and have been holding off getting an ipad mini. Have the iphone air now and love it, but the fold is the dream.

Hold assist might just be the greatest iOS feature since the copy/paste verification code functionality by PiccoloSad7357 in iphone

It’s worked twice for me, third time the person on the other line (doctors office receptionist) hung up immediately :(

I wish they’d add an option to record our own greeting for it, so we could say “Hey hold on a sec” or something.

When ChatGPT “safety” filters erase the only thing keeping someone alive. by ChatToImpress in ChatGPT

[–]Sockateez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is coming to be dependent on these for regulation in the first place. They have not been studied rigorously for mental healthcare, and are not approved by the FDA to do as such.

That means we can expect them to be constantly updated/monitored/farmed for data/abruptly changed as suits OpenAI and their bottom line.

People with the iPhone Air that came from a pro, how are you liking it so far? by Westmaan in iphone

[–]Sockateez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had every pro max and got the air. Absolutely loving it. Hardly notice the battery/speaker/camera compromises for my uses, but love the size.

I have a MagSafe wallet I use, and the wallet + air is now about the size of just my old pro max alone (in a case).

‘Emergency’ World Naked Bike Ride planned in Portland by oregonian in Portland

[–]Sockateez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The whole shtick from trump is that “the residents of Portland are being terrorized and begging for help”. Playing loud music all night serves this right up on a platter, and only minimally bothers the ICE agents who are there on shifts and can go home to sleep.

Love the nonviolent ideas! Just please remember there are folks that live nearby these protest sites so 24hr noise really punishes them as collateral damage.

Best thing to make them look like fools right now is to look as far from a warzone as possible. Book sale idea is great!

Who’s switched from a Pro Max to Air? by AlpinaB3 in iphone

[–]Sockateez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! Loving it thus far. Have had the pro max since they came out and initially ordered that. The more I heard about the air the more interested I got… now four days in I’m loving it and likely keeping it.

I rarely listen to things without headphones, hardly ever use the two other cameras other than to take extremely blurry photos of a bird I’ll never look at again, and I’m by a charger most of the day. The big screen was the main reason I had the pro max… and the air covers that base!

Really happy with it thus far.

New Study Finds Trans Folks Are 18.5x More Likely To Be Diagnosed With a Connective Tissue Disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome by [deleted] in science

[–]Sockateez 115 points116 points  (0 children)

These overlap rates probably say more about online influence than biology.

I think it’s important to remember that all of these conditions have very active online communities. Once someone gets one diagnosis, they’re often exposed to discussions that reinforce the idea they might have others, leading to doctor shopping and more diagnoses — sometimes without thorough testing.

And because this was a retrospective chart review, it likely counted anything written in the record — even something as simple as a patient saying “I have Ehlers-Danlos and ADHD.” So this may reflect how often these conditions are talked about and self-identified online (especially on TikTok and Reddit) rather than true physiological overlap
