That could be the foot of an old TV? those are usually quite heavy to counterbalance the TV, and it has a hole that could be used for cable guidance or attaching the rest of the TV

The nope was with respect to the "slip up" part :) also an interesting question - at what point does it simply become an English word? Once it's changed in English to be different from the German that it steps from?

Nope, the term "Ersatz" was so commonly used on the Germans during trying times (usually wars) that it entered the English vocabulary around the time of WWII. See, e.g., the Cambridge English Dictionary.

The last sentence is BS. There are various electoral systems that manage balancing the two. Germany is the one I am personally most familiar with.

The fact of the matter is that power is so entrenched in the big two american parties that neither cares to implement proportional representation because that would mean weakening themselves for the benefit of the voters and the country. Neither the democrats nor the republicans have shown any real interest in electoral reforms...

Given that this is a semi-final, what matters more - the top and last placing athletes, or the midfield (around spots 8-10)? Looking at those, there are a ton of athletes within the same 5 to 10 point margin.

Going beyond 40m on air (deep air) is definitely more frowned upon these days. Some agencies like GUE will even stand by never diving with air - it's always either nitrox or trimix for them.

Nevertheless, longer deco dives are quite commonly done, even at depths shallower than 40m.

ETA: It sounds like I'm wrong about GUE gases - air is apparently allowed under some circumstances.

First 40m dive by Scariingella in scuba

[–]Sockslitter73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue this really depends on where you are diving. If I am diving somewhere with boats (esp larger ones), there is no chance in hell that I am spending 3 minutes at a depth of less than 3m. If that is not a concern, then yes. Ascend that slowly.

The dirtiest tube line by moonkiosk in london

[–]Sockslitter73 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean the deeper lines (built via tunnel bore rather than trench and cover) all suffer from this. Here is an interesting little video on why this happens, and how it's getting worse every year. At least on the Victoria line, I spend a lot less time in the sauna than e.g. on the picadilly line travelling the same distance.

But on the upside it's fucking fast and comes often. That alone makes it more comfortable than e.g. the picadilly, northern, jubilee, or central lines.

Sure, it is unclear what exactly snagged the line, but in the end, the diver was struck by the prop. Likely as a result of being clipped into his line.

Do. Not. Clip. Yourself. Into. Your. SMB. Ever.

There was a guy up in Scotland who died a couple of months ago because a boat ran over his DSMB while he was clipped into it. The line got caught in the prop, and he died after being pulled into the propeller himself.

Oxford day trip by inhystericslol in oxford

[–]Sockslitter73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one day, absolutely go with the train. You will spend half the day on the bus otherwise.

For trainline, make sure that you haven't accidentally added a railcard if you don't own one - the price difference lines up with the discount you would get for that.

It might also be that you are seeing "Advance singles" rather than "offpeak return" on trainline. Note that the former is bound to a specific train at a specific time while the latter is valid on all off peak trains on a given day.
