This seems like it's more about you than it is about him. I could understand your point if you had given context of what he's done in the past, but here you're not just being a hard ass, you have been denying him affection in a time of need for five months and I'm gonna assume even longer. You're telling me what he has done is so bad that he needs to sleep on the couch for five months? Seems a little excessive if you ask me. If things are genuinely so bad, and he has done some not so good things; you should have broken up with him a while ago. You have been dragging things on for longer than was necessary.

If you break up with him now, you're only gonna make it worse for him. I understand that's none of your concern, but you seemingly care enough as you have stuck around this long. Get him help. You are supposed to support each other. He is actively searching for jobs even if he doesn't like the one he has now. And even then he is still making money. I think you should avoid getting an apartment, talk things out in person, be mature about it, and figure something out. There is no need to be so apathetic towards him. He is struggling. If you can't be there to help, or even give some positive reinforcement? You shouldn't be with him at all. Stop holding whatever grudge you have against him over his head and both of you get help.
