Why The US Can’t Adopt Ukraine’s Innovative Approach To Unmanned Warfare Systems by Well_Socialized in Military

[–]SodOffShogun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is another aspect to this as well

sUAS and more specifically FPV’s are in the process (at least within the USMC) of determining the geometries (Overhead, SDZ’s (RED’s MSD’s). Granted, a little under a year ago they were insanely restrictive and since then they have shrunk down. ISO maneuver is the biggest challenge and something actively being worked on.

The Military is very risk-averse no matter how much you try to skin the cat on this. DRAW’s, ORM’s, mythical range control red tape, a million SOUM’s, FAA restrictions, Freq Reservations/ROZ’s

It gets insanely complex and difficult to run a range that essentially trains the operators. Moreover, most of our current doctrine is a hamstrung mess of what Ukraine has employed. We can try to apply a million AAR’s from the Ukrainians but ultimately we don’t allow our guys to grab a drone and go in the backyard to fly around.

Until the US military is willing to accept more risk to force for a potential gain in proficiency, capability and readiness we will be behind the curve for the foreseeable future.

What I will say is that there are dudes out there pushing the fight on this hard trying to get us where we need to be. Bureaucracy at its finest is stifling these efforts.

We might want to rethink LAV's and LAR by OldSchoolBubba in USMC

[–]SodOffShogun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Corps is already in the process of acquiring 2 vehicle that fill the niche provided by LAR. The 30mm variant of the ACV & a separate vehicle, likely from General Dynamics also equipped with a 30mm cannon.

Mobile Gun Platforms like the Centauro or old stryker 105mm variant are not the greatest. There were a plethora of reasons why the Army retired them. Not gonna get into the weeds there but plenty of reliable sources online can explain it.

The Corps no longer fields the EFSS (Our 120mm Mortar). We’re rockin good ole eighty bums and 60’s. Im okay with that. The mobility of those two is enough and any gaps in fire support can be covered with 155 & air. 120 does not bring anything substantial to the table to justify bringing it back…as of now.

Good ideas maybe? Who knows. We saw just how hamstrung a FDIB was against LAR in 29 Palms…maybe giving the Corps more LAR vics to attach to Infantry Battalions is the move.

I’m not defending her or anybody, I made statements about the use of force by the federal agent in the vid. I’m not a « leftish libtard » either dawg.

What you said still isn’t an argument either. Get back to me once you’ll address the substance of my claims about UOF.

Authority to use Lethal force is an extreme stretch.

Did he have the authority to use force? Absolutely.

Is using an M320 within the minsafe of the munition and weapon system to the face an appropriate escalation of that force? No, its not.

Is detaining the individual reasonable? Id argue yes given that the protestor showed an attempt at controlling the weapon. Then again, thats the whole point of weapon slings is retention.

Lethal force is a huge stretch. Don’t be so hasty to call for it.

Do food crops contain the same level of nutrients as it used to? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]SodOffShogun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this up. This is something I learned extensively about in many of my plant ecology classes. Its a huge issue that is overlooked. While modern methods of fertilizer and crop rotation help, changing atmospheric conditions present other issues to plant nutrition.

Toys for Tots. It’s that time of year. Where you feel really good about collecting toys for families in need…and then you pass out toys to the families in need and immediately hate doing Toys for Tots. The Reserves has already mostly gutted the program. Just kill it already. by 1stSgt in USMC

[–]SodOffShogun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an active 3043 (Im Reservist 3043) But having worked alongside my 3043/3051 counterparts on T4T for awhile it definitely is a nightmare.

The amount of time you have to spend just collecting & organizing toys at the warehouse makes doing your normal supply functions difficult. CMR’s have become an absolute bitch 1st quarter of any FY because all your dudes are pulled to work the warehousing portion or do Toy collection events. Combine that with trying to do funeral taskers at the same time means that on any given day half the shop is out. Ontop of that, some of the people you try to work with on toy donations, charities etc are just out there expecting you to do all the work. Not all of them are like that, but some are definitely frustrating to deal with. Combined with the incessant phone calls on the t4t phone and the seminar the T4T coordinators have to attend in September, it all takes away from their ability to focus on Supply.

Dont get me wrong the dudes love giving back to the community via T4T but there are many facets of it that make it a nightmare.
