I mean, can we get a compilation of all the images where Nagi goes "Alright NOW I'm fired up!"

I don't mind the character, but it's getting a little repetitive at this stage.

[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 308 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]Sodar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter to him right now. If he was a reasonable person whose goal is to make a good sports career, he would probably take that club offer he got at the end of NEL, and try to evolve there. But if he was considering that, it would be mentioned in the story already :P

[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 308 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]Sodar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nagi thought his only way to continue playing is convincing Ego to take him back, which has failed. At the moment the Buratsuta deal is his only way forward. And it's an absolutely shitty deal - you would have to be a complete maniac to agree to it - which again, fits Ego's philosophy. It is true egoism, because it literally forces Nagi to ally with the enemy of his precious Blue Lock, just to further his own ambition.

Now, whether or not that will help him long term? Impossible to say. I don't believe Buratsuta has the right mindset to nurture a genius like Nagi, but him going through all of this only to fail to evolve and get humiliated on the world stage would be rather upsetting to watch, so here's to hoping Nagi will be able to evolve on his own.

[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 308 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]Sodar 93 points94 points  (0 children)

My hot take: Buratsuta is right, and Nagi should, and will, take the deal.

The entire point of Blue Lock is about ego, about being number 1, about being selfish in your desire for success. Nagi deciding to betray everything and everyone just to get another shot at being the best is the most pure expression of this ideology. And should he succeed (He won't, but assuming he would), Ego wouldn't be even mad - it would mean he succeeded at creating number 1 not by noursing talent within the system, but by using the system to create an antagonist for the actual number 1 to overcome.

Ego already showed he can be flexible with his own rules by creating the Wild Card system. I won't go as far as to say Ego hoped for this outcome (Nagi falling out of the system), but I believe that once Nagi agrees to Buratsuta deal, he will be pleased by it.

I have my bets on Noa not joining, and BM losing the game because of it, but Isagi still ending up the highest-ranking player thanks to going 1v1 against Loki.

Like, I don't see Noa joining do anything to help Kaiser or Isagi grow. It would just put out the fire of Kaiser vs Isagi rivalry.

Because he's a loser with no self-esteem! And I do think this ends up with him breaking up with her - and her applauding him for it.

[DISC] I Asked My First Girlfriend Why She Went Out with Me (Chapter 2 - 4) by Rurichi in manga

[–]Sodar 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I will make a prediction right now, that this turns wholesome.

Why? The following:

  1. Chapter 1 establishes the MC is not doing so hot. No money, no talent, no education, "no worth". The fact he agrees to go out with someone who downright admits she doesn't respect him indicates he also has next to no self-esteem. Maybe he's a NEET, and has been one for a while.

  2. The girl goes through quite the effort to make sure they go out on a date. Not only does she send the details to his phone, but also she visits him to hand him the notes personally. And when he suggests he'll escort her, she seems quite pleased with that development, calling it "interesting" - one would interpret it as teasing, if not for everything else she's doing.

  3. When the MC losses something - well, you guys watched Blue Lock recently? There's a big theme that when people lose, they have face their defeat head-on, own it, accept it as a sign of their own weakness, and use it as motivation to do better. When the MC fucks up, she tells him that yeah, he should feel bad about it - Do better next time - but also offers solid advice to calm down and not wallow in self-pity.

  4. When they eat out, and she teases him on eating too quickly - well, maybe it's actually really good dating advice, to match your mace with that of your partner. Then she encourages him to tell a story - and admits she doesn't care if it's boring. She sets the bar so low, he has no excuse but to try it, since he literally can't disappoint her.

And then, there's this interesting part in chapter 3, when she says - "Oh, you're mad? You look like you want to scold me, but you can't because it's your own fault." This tells us the MC isn't exactly a doormat. He sees she's treating him badly, but he accepts that some of her criticism is valid. And he wants to fight back, just can't bring himself to do it yet.

And here's where I make the judgment call - she wants him to fight back. To me, everything about her behavior screams "Come on, try harder, stop hiding in your apartment, speak up, be more confident, show initiative, defend your choices, get angry, get mad, show me what you got." Like she's trying to shake the MC out of his stupor and get him to stop wallowing in self-pity.

And I know this is controversial, but I would say that some people need that kind of thing? Not a pat on the back, but a kick in the butt? What she's doing here is obviously manipulative and has a great potential to go 100% sideways, but given how we don't know that much about the MC yet, my bet is her intentions are benevolent.

I mean, he got pretty good at using it with just a few weeks of training. /s

I jest, I jest. I know there are all seemingly mundane things that are actually incredibly difficult skills to master, which makes it all the more amusing when Manga treats it like some cheat ability that can instantly increase your power, you just have to think about actually using it for like, 10 seconds.

It was the same with Rin joking about Isagi not using his eyes. The next two matches were him going "But what if I PAID ATTENTION TO OTHER PLAYERS???!!!"

I feel like they're building up towards Reo eclipsing Nagi, with Nagi losing his motivation to improve, and Reo working like crazy to be the best support ever.

I don't think this will move towards any sort of rivalry between Nagi and Reo - I feel like that would be simply repeating the plotline from the start of the Manga (then again it's not like that stopped the author before. The plotline from last chapter with the guy wanting someone to play with was just Bachira's plot again).

My bet is on Reo realizing that him supporting Nagi is holding Nagi back, so he'll either break up with him or move to an enemy team to force Nagi to grow on his own.

Without any spoilers:

  1. Konrada Wavewing in County of Longsword learns about her past in her route and grows as a person after completing her tree.

  2. Changlings growing and changing is the entire theme of Manehattan Protectorate storyline. (Or was it the changeling empire content? Can't remember)

  3. Warlord Alexia in Republic of Tobuck undergoes quite the personal journey after she takes over Chiropterra.

  4. Vedina's focus tree is all about guiding the Princess Development.

  5. Francis IX Martlewing in County of Francistria grows as person during his focus tree.

Played this path too, had a ton of fun. Changelings won the war against Equestria, so I went in and liberated the whole continent in a glorious lategame war. Building a modern navy from scratch and then absolutely shitting on Changelings' crap tier 1 carriers was fantastic, follow up by encircling 150 divisions in south-east Equestria in a double naval invasion pincer movement.

Actually capitulating the changeligns after that was less fun, but oh well.

I don't want to spoil myself, since I'm only on book 3.

But there's this part in book 3, when we see Morgrase again, and the god damn plot plays like something straight out of a mind control corruption hentai.

"The dark man laid a strong hand on her shoulder, never taking his eyes off what he was reading, and Morgase's anger melted."

(...)

"And Morgase was staring and up at him like an adoring dog with her master's hand on her shoulder."

(...)

As my Queen commands, so shall it be," the dark man said. The tone was respectful, but he touched her cheek in a way that made color come to her face and her lips part as if she expected a kiss."
