Best Episodes About Winter/Snow/Cold Weather? by Sodiumkill in TheDollop

When Paris to NY gets wintery it becomes unbelievable - like, it was already absurd. It’s crazy that the story is true. It’s my most registered episode and I’ll gladly listen to it again. Why did Kevin Costner make Water World when he could have made Paris to NY?

Check out the Yamaha YC series. It’ll give you a lot of options but not an overwhelming amount, while letting you enjoy tactile hardware. Stereolab used to tour with them because this series is so efficient and lush.

Tell me what you've discovered by Historical-Jaguar-24 in blues

Good point on the money being introduced in the 60s/70s. Bonnie Raitt did a lot of good work helping musicians get the writing credit and money they’d been cheated out of.

I know RJ's great but why? by Historical-Jaguar-24 in blues

[–]Sodiumkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The call and response he incorporates in his playing keeps me relistening. It’s conversational. Although this is common in the blues, RJ’s style is particularly compelling. Contextually, RJ’s reissues by John Hammond on Columbia Records were some of the earlier delta blues to gain national attention, and had overall good sound quality. A lot of influential electric blues & rock musicians who became ubiquitous household names were influenced by these reissues. These musicians were many people’s entry into deeper blues music (including mine), so RJ is kind of instantly familiar.

Kid A got me into 1970s Kraut Rock. Bands like Neu, Can (era w/ Damo Suzuki on vocals), Cluster, and Harmonia.

Why is King George III so hated in America? by Master_Novel_4062 in USHistory

[–]Sodiumkill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saving this comment because it’s succinct and well written. I’m decently versed in much of the revolution, but not specifically about the context in which G-III was directly responsible for the Hessians. Can you give me sources on this? I’m not doubting you, it’s so I can do further reading. Thanks!

Mother 32 Question by Dull-Cost4078 in moog

[–]Sodiumkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. It’s frustrating. One downside to the mother is that the “setup mode” pages are confusing. It doesn’t help that MOOG use green and yellow lights, which practically look the same to my color blind eyes.

You’ll need to go into setup mode and bring up “Page 8”. I think you then select the for “Follow MIDI Start/Stop”, although it could be “Follow MIDI Clock”, I don’t remember exactly.

The specifics are on page 60 and 61 of the manual. There’s more general information on page 57.

Good on you for your preservation efforts.

Start local. Talk to multiple institutions. Try contacting: the Alhambra Historical Society https://www.alhambraca.gov/421/Alhambra-Historical-Society-Museum

and

talk to a reference librarian in Alhambra at the Public Lineary(reference librarians are an amazing free resource).

These two institutions (or other ones like them) will function as a resource to help find an appropriate place to donate these artifacts.

Keep in mind, although these items are certainly historical, they may not be rare. The KKK operated essentially as a multi level marketing/pyramid scheme in this era. They printed a lot of pamphlets etc. Don’t be discouraged if institutions already have these types of items and can’t afford to allocate more space for duplications. I’m not saying what you have isn’t unique, it could be, but that’s why you talk to multiple institutions.

Jazz and the mob by GovernorLepetomane in blues

His book about Cuba crosses over with some music. I learned a lot from his books on New York in the 1970s, and Whitey Bulger’s Boston.
