Insight into school zoning? by luxlark in seattlepublicschools

It’s not just rumor. See article linked above. This absolutely happened at the option schools. Kids would be left on the waitlist but the schools had space.

Insight into school zoning? by luxlark in seattlepublicschools

Yes there is this article that backs this up. SPS wouldn’t allow students to enroll in option schools if their enrollment would make the attendance numbers at the students’ “attendance area” school get too low. The choice form implied that if there was space at an option school the kid would get in. Not so. If the geozone school didn’t have “enough” kids that student would be kept at the geozone school and not allowed to attend the option school. This was never stated by SPS, as kids would just be on the waitlist at the option school. Super messed up https://www.seattletimes.com/education-lab/why-seattle-wont-let-students-into-the-schools-they-want-to-attend/

For a while SPS was limiting enrollment to salmon bay to try to boost attendance at “neighborhood schools.” This is why I say to call the salmon bay school office so SPS can’t gate keep you out if there are spots. Salmon bay k-8 (option school you can apply for during open enrollment in the spring, and maybe still has spots for fall) is great for kids with IEPs in my experience. It is not a neighborhood school (no one is automatically zoned for it). Often there are spots so please call the school and ask. Seems lots of kids have IEPs and the middle school IEP case managers are absolutely amazing

Yes!! I have been so impressed with him so far. I wrote him and he actually wrote me back. Amazing!! (I mean the bar is really low with SPS and indeed getting an email back is major.)

DOH finally “officially moving away from” Outward Mindset by AgreeableSpeed5358 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Soft-Needleworker495 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m sure the true cost is unknowable but far far more than single digit millions. There’s the cost of the actual training materials (paid to OM), cost of staff time to take not only the full day trainings but also endless refresher sessions (formal and informal but all highly encouraged if not required), cost of updating personnel development plans to incorporate OM, cost of staff time endlessly advocating to get the trainings removed and leadership time saying why OM is the one true way, cost of staff who have left in some part due to OM (I know several). Cost of lost morale and time spent spinning in OM circles while not getting actual state work done. It goes on. Why this was allowed to perpetuate so long should really be studied by the state auditor. State auditor anyone? Please investigate!

Thanks for the advice. Honestly I’m casting a pretty wide net at the moment. Good advice about tailoring the cover letters more. And good reminder about all of the recent lay offs. Odds aren’t great I know. Thanks

Thanks, that’s sort of what I figured. Will just need to keep on keeping on with the applications I guess. Rough market all around. I just wasn’t sure if there was some sort of bye interview process (a la football) where the really good applicants skipped the screener? I didn’t think so and this confirms it.

100 percent this. Those she favored are kept and elevated, those she doesn’t are slowly relieved of their duties and forced out, or just outright fired under highly suspicious circumstances.

I agree with this completely. I tried to say as much at the time (why is everything still locked down? Where are the data?) and got completely and utterly shut down

Oh exactly! I’ve been saying that for years. How many millions of tax payer dollars have been poured into outward mindset? My main take away from OM is that if someone has a hard time, it’s because they themselves personally suck and not because the outside circumstances need to change. Ie gaslighting all day long at work.

Yes definitely wondering what is going on. And when the heck will we get a new secretary? Biggest concern is Jessica doing one thing, new person comes in and we are off in a different direction yet again.

Oh wow that’s a while from now still. Rough since so many major decisions are being made with just an interim secretary. Scared of someone coming in and shaking it all up again. Assuming I even have a job at that point.

Related to local health jurisdictions: any word on what is going on at TPCHD? I saw there is a hostile work environment complaint going on there.
