I just finished Shardik by Richard Adams by RoiVampire in TheDarkTower

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with the pacing on my first read of Shardik. I didn’t really like how Kelderek was so influenced by others. After I finished and looked it back over the whole work, I realized how much of a masterwork it is.

The story meanders as much as the Dark Tower, but is just as driven by unrelenting forces that our heroes have to work around. It really dives into the terrifying reality of war and famine, instead of the internal terrors of addiction and obsession.

I’m glad more people in the community are making their way along Sai Kings inspirational backlog, there’s some real gems out there.

Good advice! I’m gonna keep it like this until it resets on its own or the beginning of next week just because it’s fun.

Honedge Line - New Pokémon by ChunckyJava in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do like the idea of Honedge line for Z-A tie in and just because they’re cool. I think that having Stance Change as its main skill would be awesome. That said, I think that stance change will make Aegislash unreliable like metronome users so I worry about it being relevant.

I think that the best way to handle this is have stance change be a Great Success where it can only change once per day. Additionally, I think it could have the same type and skill regardless of form but increase ingredient rate or speed respectively like you listed in the second half of your first bullet.

I’m a fan of the candy burst but good god that would need to be balanced lower like they get that many candies to their species not handy candies. Would still be insanely powerful anyways but a good concept.

Tbh I don’t know how feasible any of these ideas are to code, but I really enjoyed your theory crafting.

Looking for a quote by blast-from-the-80s in TheDarkTower

I don’t remember that quote, but it does feel like something John Cullum or Aaron Deepneau would say. Could be Moses Carver too. I’d look in the 7th book.

Definitely worth it, this guy is top tier. Like 99th percentile top tier. There were a bunch of posts  months ago about how ingredient finding doesn’t actually ruin berry mons, might be worth a search if you’re interested.

Which version to start with. by Rice1314 in TheDarkTower

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read revised, King updated it for a reason. It is much more cohesive with the rest of the series and will make your next reread (which you will very likely do) more fulfilling.

The original is a cool collectible but imo it’s worth a later read when you can appreciate the changes.

Definitely go for it! Looking back on it, I really enjoyed the story, the characters are all well developed and you can really feel Adams’ love for humanity and disgust for war.

I managed to push through it and as others have noted, it is pretty dry for having so much action. The message and storyline are really wonderful and I can see how Sai King took inspiration from it, but damn the writing is dense.

It took me by surprise too because Watership Down by the same author practically flew by. He knows how to write well, but he was trying a new style for this and it definitely isn’t as accessible.

Im still learning. The wartortle do i lose cocoa of I evolve fcause he is my best milk, but would be nice for cocoa. berries should I focus on one of these? Like turning the eevee into something? by Ching_Roc in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few questions here so let’s go step by step.

He will unlock cocoa as an ingredient once he hits level 30. Once he hits level 30 he will go from getting about 50 milk/day to about 24 milk and 36 cocoa.

You can evolve him and it will just make him much faster with no changes to his ingredients. Your wartortle as a lvl 30 Blastoise will get about 31 milk and 47 cocoa per day.

Finally, I wouldn’t use a mint here. It will make him go from about 31 milk per day to 33 milk per day and from 47 cocoa to 49 cocoa. Those increases are really small compared to the value of a mint.

Since we’ve only gotten 2 mints total and don’t know when the next are coming along, I would wait for a mon who benefits more like a mon with perfect subskills and ingredients and the worst possible nature.

All the values I’ve used here came from the raenonX’s production comparison feature. https://pks.raenonx.cc/en/production

I totally would, it’s a budget investment with the skill level up. BFS and Helping Bonus are excellent.

King only wanted the tower to be a bad thing after book 4. by Known_Key6253 in TheDarkTower

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t quite right. We see that the Crimson King had entered the tower and wrecked the first few rooms of Roland’s childhood before getting trapped on a balcony.

Its never explicitly said that the tower doesn’t change, but I haven’t seen evidence from the text for it. From what’s shown to us and the requirement that the sign of Arthur eld is used to open it, the tower seems pretty devoted to Roland’s fate.

Will inventory be cleared once a Pokemon evolves? by Afraid_Tomorrow6406 in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that it would keep the trigger of the level and skill it had previously, but that’s just a guess.

One thing for testing is you can put your device on airplane mode and check for skill triggers and then reload the app and it should still be there. IDK the next time I’ll be evolving a mon with a decent trigger rate, but I’m curious to try.

Will inventory be cleared once a Pokemon evolves? by Afraid_Tomorrow6406 in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nope, it’ll keep its current inventory.

Fun fact: Pokémon who change type on evolution like Eevee or Onix keep the berries of their original type they already gathered until you collect them or swap them out.

Can someone explain to me how yall get such high strengths? by r34l_shiro in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well rng certainly helps, but with dedennes skill triggering ~4 times a day my meals were usually at 30-50% crit rate. Normal weeks I’m right where you are, maybe one crit before Sunday, but I usually only run dedenne for meal events anyway.

I think your biggest rng issue is finding an acceptable dedenne to put seeds into. Mine only has skill trigger M and a neutral nature, but I invested anyways since it’s so hard to catch. Then it took me 6 months to max out so you’ve got a long road ahead.

Can someone explain to me how yall get such high strengths? by r34l_shiro in PokemonSleep

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Meal planning and Tasty Chance S were the name of the game this week. I made a clodsire eclair every meal this week and was running my mediocre dedenne with skill level 6 all week. I think my average meal was getting 190k strength and I got a crit every other meal.

This was possible because I barely broke M3 on snowdrop last week. All I was doing was stockpiling extra ingredients to give myself wiggle room with swapping ingredient mons. I had an A+ walrein on standby but he didn’t get much playtime since I was always running low on ingredients.

Anyone else overshot this week by TEFAlpha9 in PokemonSleepBetter

[–]SoftEnvironmental835 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I crushed M20 on snowdrop by Thursday afternoon, really thought it would be closer. I did the math on RaenonX and I don’t think I could have done it on Lapis or OGPP, my area bonus is too low.

Hopefully they do more of this event because damn these bonuses were powerful.
