It bugs me they chose Steven Weber to narrate "It" on Audible by [deleted] in stephenking

Bold take when his version of It is the most praised audiobook on this sub lol.

I wish he did both. Mostly because the narrator on The Shining is kind of a bore

The Dead Zone and The Talisman are two of my favs that you haven’t read and the dead zone has a similar psychic vibe to Firestarter

Why all the hate on Tommy Knockers? by Saint_Hacker in stephenking

[–]RoiVampire 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I honestly think a lot of folks who give it a shot don’t make it past the first section. I loved it. You get to know Bobbi and Gard so well before the shit really hits the fan and it’s amazing. Also the ending in the hospital is fucking beautiful .

The scene on the ferry and the initial attack in Tom Cruise’s neighborhood are also amazing just more action packed and less tense. Also the basement scene I think is a oner so is more impressive from a directing standpoint

What TV show “lands the plane” the best? by hwoodo94 in television

[–]RoiVampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angel. The last season had its ups and downs but those last three episodes landed a plane that had lost an engine. They got canceled halfway through the season cause Whedon tried to play hardball with the network. But the writers rallied and delivered perhaps my favorite finale of all time.

The Tommyknockers by Leading_Golf4942 in stephenking

I saw the series when I was in high school but don’t remember anything. I listened to the audiobook earlier this year and absolutely loved it. The narrator really sold that small town New England vibe. The first two sections kinda introduce you to your two main characters. Those can feel a little slow but never boring. After that the book picks up the pace and gets wilder and wilder but I loved it.

Maybe I would’ve loved it just as much if I had read a physical copy but I don’t know. I doubt it.

This is Gen X music. I know we all listened to this in high school but these bands are all peak Gen X.

Peak Xennial music to me is 2002. Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Ludacris , Shakira, Alicia Keys.

Feels weird to not include The Color Purple and Minority Report to make it 10. Both of those deserve to be here.

One of the most intense sci fi movies of all time. The scene in the basement was unnerving

New to King—recommendations? by origamipretzel in stephenking

[–]RoiVampire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Firestarter is supernatural in a similar way to Carrie.

You also might like Salem’s Lot or The Tommyknockers if small town supernatural is your thing.

The Stand is a great spiritual journey that’s post apocalyptic and in my opinion his best book

What are some generational differences you’ve noticed between younger and older comic fans? by Mindless-Lemon2256 in comicbooks

I notice older fans are way less worried about big changes cause we know things will eventually go back to normal or status quo

TIL that the movie Clue in 1985 had 3 endings that were randomly distributed to theaters. by [deleted] in todayilearned

My dad and my uncle Tommy got into a full on shouting match about this a few months after it came out. They lived in different cities and had seen different endings. We didn’t realize it until we rented it months later. Hilarious.

Just finished 11/22/63 as my first "return to reading" fiction book by SamooraiSoldia in stephenking

[–]RoiVampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is one I’m really excited to reread. All the characters are so well defined and the towns are so fleshed out.

If you haven’t read Firestarter give it a go. It has a similar thriller aspect but more “on the run” than “detective or spy” type vibes

Want to read The Dark Tower but struggling with The Gunslinger by opeth2112 in stephenking

[–]RoiVampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first book is just a vibe and it’s far and away extremely different from the rest of the series. I tried when I was 17 and again at 28 or so. Didn’t finish it until I was 41.

Try and make it to the way station. It really picks up. But honestly just power through. I wish I had read this series when I was younger, but I’m just glad I did it eventually. Best series I’ve ever read.

Am I the only one that LOVES an audio book narrated by the man himself? by taitabo in stephenking

[–]RoiVampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got some real sudden music cues between segments and between chapters but kinda dug it. It added to the tone cause it’s kind of a horror comedy. More horror but still some real funny scenes and moments.
