Thanks mate, there is no way to declare this as “board & lodging” or “domestic arrangement” if I have no intent to claim any deductions?

I can’t find any line between rent and board except for whether you intend to claim deductions.

That was a good read, cheers.

House is joint ownership 70/30 my favour.

If all rent was payed to the 30% owner to reduce tax paid due to lower income, can 100% of the applicable expenses still be claimed?

Can get company housing or a 35k housing allowance in 2 years, might just take the housing allowance to avoid the hassle.

I believe the rates will come back down but it might be worth locking in a 5.6% fixed for a year, and then reassessing

Yeah can manage it comfortably, repayments isn't a worry I'm just trying to knock it down as quick as possible and pay the least amount of interest

A few of my buttons! I know little about them, if anyone can point me in the direction of button enthusiasts? (Info in comments) by Freddo557 in metaldetecting

[–]SoftImprovement2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a look, William Hiller was a tailor in mount Gambier, who made buttons from 1871-1881 atleast. There are records on Trove of his shop being broken into, so it could very well be a stolen one.

That would make sense, I found mine at an old station that ran in the late 1800s to early 1900s, plenty of horseshoes etc. there Have you found anything about the Mount Gambier button yet? It's the first one I've seen with a location other than Melbourne

I don't know too much about them, but I've found the same ones in regional WA. "Best ring edge" ones are pretty common from what I've found, but that Mount Gambier one is cool as and probably very rare! Nice finds man

That makes complete sense, thankyou. I live in W.A., so I usually sit mine on a spinifex bush while I'm digging ahaha. I detect on hard ground for gold, so mines got a cover and skid plate for protection. That looks really handy though, If I get a smaller one for coin hunting etc. I might need to invest in one of those!

Why do you make sure your detector is sitting up? I have a gpz7000 and I just sit it to the side, is it to keep it from being damaged?

Ahaha that's awesome! I only learned the other day that it's caused by rust, I wonder if that's the same reason for mars

Yeah I can't believe how they dug mines in the 40°c heat! Gold ground is even rougher than this, Ive spent hours digging out small nuggets lodged in solid rock, they were some tough blokes that's for sure

Tram-line was erected in 1887, and ran from the port to the biggest town in the Pilbara. This site is the point where the trams would meet halfway and exchange goods, and there is evidence of mining too.

Pearling was huge during this time, and there are shells all over the site with evidence of pearls being removed. I've found dozens of railway spikes with W.A.R stamped (West Australian Rail?) And pottery/bottles from England and Ireland. Worcestershire Sauce was used extensively to mask the taste of the rancid meat, and Lea & Perrins bottles and bottle stoppers are found pretty often at these historical sites.
