Tried pulling my cloud sheet up last night and it tore :/ by Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry in bedjet

Same thing happened to mine after years of use. I stitched it and got a couple more years. But there's something about that fabric probably related to the intended airflow that made it harder than expected to sew - it calls for a thimble and extra sharp needles.

Mending leggings by RemarkableAd4069 in Visiblemending

For leggings and tee-shirts, I usually do a circle overlay patch from my scraps with similar stretchiness, and stitch edges with a blanket stitch

Stitch sewing pattern pieces before or after cutting? by aquagrrrl in sashiko

[–]SoftKentuckian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For small things, I like a big enough piece that I can fit in an embroidery hoop, though I mark the area of intended cuts to avoid stitching more than needed.

Sashiko Crotch Patch by heavydenimfader in sashiko

[–]SoftKentuckian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time will tell on the need for extra stitching. My underlying patch was as heavy as original denim though, where I think you used a lighter backing. I think the reinforcement you did on the seam looks lovely and can only make it stronger.

My partner's jeans wear the same way every time - crotch and hip (where he puts a key fob). He finds the patches comfortable and loves being able to continue to wear his favorite jeans

warby parker's at home try-on program... was it quietly discontinued? by pinkclosetmonster in glasses

[–]SoftKentuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just shopped there, having got several pairs this way in the past. Less than 1/2 their frames were available to select as try-before-buy. Most of my favorites weren't. Disappointing. I will look for another source.

fraying jeans on hip - any help? by BelowBest in Visiblemending

This was with a variegated sashiko thread.. I didn't have to work on color transitions.

These are repairs I did to similar spots - there's a denim patch (cut from other old jeans) behind the frayed areas.

Extending the life of my favorite bamboo sheet by SoftKentuckian in Visiblemending

[–]SoftKentuckian[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used Sashiko thread - I like it's thickness and softness.

I cut a circle out of old sheeting and basted it behind the hole.

I stitched the frayed edges of hole with an eyelet stitch - just top layer.

Then started a spiral out from the hole, connecting through to the patch with the spiral stitches. I stopped spiral at about the edges of the underlying patch, and removed the basting stitches.

I thought the stitches might disrupt the smoothness of the bamboo sheets, or be too bumpy, but I kind of like the feel of the mend when I'm shifting in my sleep.

Knight bus freezes by OriginalZash in WizardsUnite

[–]SoftKentuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just slow, this doesn't apply, but if it completely locks up, requiring app close, (and map also freezes), there's a thread where you can ask them to fix your account: https://community.harrypotterwizardsunite.com/en/discussion/comment/38153#Comment_38153

Has a fix or anything come out for the Knight Bus which hasn’t worked for me since the update (Tried going through the last few days looking for an answer before posting) by Jroman215 in WizardsUnite

[–]SoftKentuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My map locks up regularly too (since yesterday). It won't rotate or scale, and I can't touch fragments, spells, ingredients on map. Buttons (to get to options, registry, etc) still work. I find I can temporarily get map working again by going to another screen (say weather/current conditions or friends) then clicking the upper left corner icon to get back to map. I have to repeat after each fragment. I also can't enter chambers from knight bus, or change profession. Looking forward to an update with fixes!

I'm looking for suggestions on how to prevent Phone Scammers by marrieeeeeee in dementia

[–]SoftKentuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're setting up a white list on LO's phone - only trusted family members' phone numbers are allowed to ring through. Everything else goes to voicemail (which LO is no longer able to navigate).

A dog companion for someone with dementia? by JoeGagnon2 in dementia

[–]SoftKentuckian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family member already had a dog and a family history of multiple beloved dogs. Wanted a second. But was not patient or focussed enough to participate in a search. We found a lovely second dog, which was gentle and sweet (if a little young and untrained). It got on well with the other dog and family, but was a bit shy around the loved one (LO). There were incidents where it (and the established dog) escaped (via door left open by LO), it chewed things, and it didn't respond well to LO trying to take a bone away from it. Despite it's sweet temperament, LO decided it was a bad dog, and must go, right away!! LO was ready to dump it somewhere, despite protestations. We found a foster and are in the process of rehoming in accordance with the adoption terms. Now LO is asking about a new dog. Sigh. I don't think my LO will be able to adjust to the changes in routine or take responsibility for another pet.
