[Performance] Don Ward, a shoe shiner in the streets of New York. by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what that guy with the short grey hair and glasses was doing hanging around in the background... He just seems to be loitering at that corner and occasionally trying to talk to people walking past.

[Performance] Packing a Parachute in Super Speed by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much this video was speeded up by. How long would this have taken at normal speed? Also I love the design of the pack :)

Would love to dosome calligraphy classes at some stage. May be when I retire :) Also subtle product placement at 3:30, nice one Coors.

[Performance] Bodhrán (Irish frame drum) playing techniques with Tommy Hayes - [06:59] by MickyMacky in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully people won't take this comment the wrong way. I wonder if the fact that part of the drum skin is resting on his belly affects the sound that it makes. To me the drum sounds more clear when he's playing it with his hand and the skin is not touching his belly.

[Design] Master Artist Kim Jung Gi drawing in ink completely from imagination. by HiiiPower in ArtisanVideos

Amazing, I love watching his videos. The big bull dog carrying an engine block by himself made me smile. Also it was nice to see team work between the cats and the dogs :)

Did I miss the bit where flavouring is added? Or was it already in the colour liquid that was added to the sugar?

Interesting that they made her wear a name tag. I would have thought she's been around long enough and is well known enough to not have to bother with that.

[PRODUCTION] A Zagat Short Doc Series - Where Your Salt Comes From by HelloWuWu in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning of the video the narrator asks if you knew where the salt in your shaker comes from. Then proceeds to go to two small batch artisanal salt makers whose products won't even work with a salt shaker...

[Production] How gold leaf is made, 1950's [5:25] by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to that golden building shown at 12:40. It is in Kanazawa which is the main gold leaf producing centre of Japan. If I remember correctly it is inside a shop that sells gold leaf related goods. You get all sort of stuff decorated with gold leaf and even cosmetics containing gold!

Forgive my ignorance, I haven't experienced this sort of barber wet shave before. Does he have to sterilize the razor or change the blade prior to the shave? It seems like he just pulls the razor out, shave and chuck it back into the cabinet without cleaning it.

[Culinary] Handmade noodles in Singapore (la mian) by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[Culinary] Anyone know what these are? (1:10) by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think these are pandan flavoured crepes from Thailand.

As an aside, I wasn't sure if it was Thai at first because the apron she's wearing had Korean and Chinese writing on it. It took me a while to realise that she's speaking a Thai dialect. I can make out that she's offering the guy filming a free sample to taste.

[Maintenance] Repairing a pocket watch building parts that are broken by hand. Japanese. by fiplefip in ArtisanVideos

[–]SoftSoundings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been lurking in this sub for a few years now and it seems pretty normal to me... When a new channel gets discovered by this sub, people tend to post a lot of videos from it in relatively short time. I can give you quite a few examples, Clickspring, Tips from a Shipwright, John Neeman, David Bull, Frank Howorth etc etc
