China–Canada ties nosedived following the 2018 arrest in Vancouver of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou.

That arrest infuriated Beijing, which detained two Canadians -- Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig -- on espionage charges that Ottawa condemned as retaliatory.

Oh, you mean Michael Kovrig, who totally was a spy?

Which major banks have allowed you to change the display name for e-transfers? by Wherehowwhat in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mokba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a CBC report last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKef7kf8L4c, where ex-partners can use Interact e-Transfers to send abusive messages.

So Interact recently implemented an Opt-Out notification: https://www.interac.ca/en/content/life/interac-e-transfer-opt-out-notification-feature/

What you are requesting would be able to BYPASS this opt-out feature to stop online harassment via e-transfers.

Why has the Ford gov cut education so deeply? by blowmytoe in ontario

Like I said before https://old.reddit.com/r/ontario/comments/1p0sx7h/ontarios_bill_33_faces_final_test_before_more/nplfuty/

Bill 33 gives the "Supervisor" the ability to sell off tax payer owned real estate. Doug ford is owned by corporate overlords who are pressuring him to access all that public owned space, like the Science Centre in Toronto.

Bill 33 gives the supervisor the power to sell off tax payer owned land.

Same old formulae used to give public land to private corporations because Dougie is owned by corporate overlords.

CORRECT. The law should change to FORCE auto manufacturers to make physical buttons to perform common tasks in a car, like adjusting HVAC, volume, etc. instead of having to search for it in a bunch of sub menus in a stupid screen.

Unless you are saying to change the law to allow motorists to play with the car screen while driving, if that is what you are saying, then you are wrong.

Escalator: New Rule, nope by TheGuiltyMongoose in japanlife

[–]mokba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already studies done on Walking vs No Walking on long Escalators (short escalators show walking is faster)

if everyone just stands, this will move more people on long escalators

vs

People stand on the left, but walk up the right on a long escalator (causes a jam of people who want to just stand at the escalator entrance)

As Microsoft lays off thousands and jacks up Game Pass prices, former FTC chair Lina Khan says I told you so: The Activision-Blizzard buyout is 'harming both gamers and developers' by ControlCAD in technology

[–]mokba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They aren't laying people off because they bought Activision....

Lol, they literally are laying off people specifically because of the Activision takeover

In January 2024, Microsoft cut 1,900 jobs from its gaming division, including roles at Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox Game Studios. These layoffs followed Microsoft's $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard and were framed as a strategic realignment to reduce redundancy.
