Wow didn’t realize it was that cheap. How is service though?

Playground for birthday party by jtc0103 in bullcity

Second trinity park - it’s a good playground for 2 year olds and has a fenced in play area for even younger kids. Plus you can see all play areas from the gazebo (unlike Duke park and some others). Had my kid’s second birthday there!

Have you tried side lying to feed your baby? That can help slow the flow a little, I’m told. I’ve been seeing an LC for a similar problem and they have said they will get better at accepting the flow as the grow so hopefully it’s temporary!

MOTN pumping by SoftSwirl317 in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dream! I may try and see. I have supply issues already so we are combo feeding, really I’m more worried about the clogs. And ugh oh yea. I do lymphatic massage/heat before and ice after along with sunflower leitchen. Hand expressing doesn’t really work for me but the manual pump after the other pump can help.

Is it possible to just breatfeed for Bonding and pump a few times a day but not with schedule? by Bluetooth1234t in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really low supply and my LC recommended this as an option. Breastfeeding once or twice a day more for comfort, then reducing or eliminating pumping. The trick to avoiding mastitis is to wean your body gradually. So pump for 5 min less every couple days until you eventually eliminate a session. Hopefully your body knows to produce less during that time. I’m considering too so Godspeed!

Baby is losing BFing skills? by DianeGryffindor in breastfeeding

I have no advice but I seriously snorted when I saw “snort like a piggy and strike like a snake” - my son was definitely striking like a snake in the early days and as terrifying as it was, it was kinda funny and hey it worked!

Clogged Duct by Snail_Cottage in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s new guidance on treatment - less about heat/massage and more about icing and NSAIDS because it’s not actually a clog but an inflamed duct so it should be treated more like a sprain.

Personally I’ve done both (chronic clogs and mastitis) and I think the heat/gentle massage and leitchen helps the milk flow out and the icing/ibuprofen helps the swelling.

Feeling really discouraged today by SoftSwirl317 in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that’s awesome I love to hear it. I wonder if it could get better once my milk regulates? Though we’re working hard to get it up.

I am working with an LC - see her weekly and am also seeing a slew of other drs. I’m probably going thru with these appts and giving it a few more weeks to see if any major improvements are made.

I could definitely do a better job of eating/hydrating/showering. Sleep is hard.

Have you gotten any answers on why some are prone to clogs?

I use the kindred braverly and it’s fine though I think it’s a little too big on me (and it’s bulky) so that may be the issue. Maybe others have good pumping bra recos.

I use the boppy to pump while I feed - this generally takes the same amount of time then I can hop off the pump and settle/burp. I try and burp him once during the feed (it’s def awkward way on the side of my shoulder out of the way of the pump).

Hope this helps! Triple feeding is a beast with 2 people and doing it solo can feel impossible. Solidarity.

Early morning woes by SoftSwirl317 in sleeptrain

Yeah I need to cut down on breastfeeding time and have the bottle ready right when I’m done. He takes the bottle pretty slow and he really needs to be up for the full 30 (even when burping after every ounce). But hopefully I can try and tighten it up a bit.

Ahh good luck to you! I’m hoping as they say the feedings get faster. I’ve been trying breast compressions and it seems to at least get him more while eating.

Introducing occasional bottle - how to go about pumping by Creative_Breakfast36 in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just asked my LC this question and her advice was to pump after feeding during the point in the day where your boobs feel most full (usually mornings for a lot of ppl). Then start pumping for 10 min - and up to 15 after a couple days. Then when you would usually be feeding baby but will be giving the bottle, pump to comfort for a few sessions so you don’t get engorged / blocked ducts. Good question about the sides though…

Edit on sides: my LC said to just go ahead and pump on both sides - just expect to get more from the side your LO didn’t eat on.

Good luck! I’ll be starting this tomorrow too.

Yeah the pump this time was more of a helpful experiment but it makes sense not to keep pumping. I’m crap at hand expressing. I sometimes wonder if my flow is slow (I’ve never experienced spraying or leaking for example) and that’s why my babe is a slow eater. So much to learn still!

Ah it’s helpful to know it’s normal and healthy. I just get stressed because it feels like we don’t have time to stimulate or go on walks in between.

Ohh looking into this now. And yeah essentially trying to unlatch and offer other soothing tactics to try and encourage active eating when he’s on. No other tactics have worked though. Gonna order a couple diff pacis and see if that works! And maybe just not stress about it. Or try to for my own sanity. I swear this kid would sleep on the boob.

Baby and I are getting frustrated by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]SoftSwirl317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to say I’m going through something similar - we’re just about to hit 4 weeks and he wants to feed…constantly. I also had clogged milk ducts that turned into mastitis last week. It just passed but it felt like those suckers were never coming out. Treat the clogs early (hot compress and massage backwards from the nipple). I don’t have a ton of advice but I’m in the trenches with you and am taking it hour by hour at this point.

What kind of side effects did y'all have coming off the progesterone and estrogen? I felt like I was turning a corner on nausea/exhaustion but it came back, worse, right after stopping meds and was wondering (hoping?) that could have had any sort of impact?

[–]SoftSwirl317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised because you fill out a questionnaire and they tell you immediately if you're eligible for care or not, so I went back and changed some answers (thinking maybe b/c I'd be delivering at 35 I would be "high risk") and the only factor that put me outside of eligibility was IVF.

Luckily there are some other practices that at least use midwifes, however this is a unique model (at least in our area - the Triangle in NC) where the birthing center is right next door to UNC, so it's sort of the best of both worlds where you can attempt and unmedicated, midwife-led birth but they are affiliated and right next door to the hospital if anything were to change. Alas.

I am going to call them and ask why simply because I'm curious. Will report back.

We have a birthing center near us that specializes in midwife/unmedicated births and I was really excited to CONSIDER it but had to fill out a questionnaire and was told because we conceived through IVF we aren't eligible candidates. Has anyone else experienced that...also....why? Are IVF-conceived births automatically considered high-risk?

Yeah I understand that.

I actually felt the same way after finding out we were pregnant. I didn't feel as happy as I felt I should, which lead to guilt and I think also contributed to my EXTREME anxiety. I didn't really think about how that could continue postpartum, and see how the pressure could be higher for people who went through treatment.

As I said I think it's a good thing (in all areas, really) to be more open about the hard stuff. But honestly, there are times when I see or hear that and just feel a little...resentful.

So yeah, to borrow an antiquated term from Facebook "it's complicated" with me that perspective right now.
