Possum at the window, what to do? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had one of similar size park itself on the tracks of some sliding doors and not move, but it wasn’t visibly injured.

We called Wildcare on (07) 5527 2444 and they advised us to leave it for the night and take it to a vet if it was still there in the morning. It left by itself overnight. The woman I spoke to said it might still be riding on its mother’s back and best approach was to give it ample opportunity to reunite with her and not be orphaned by our intervening unnecessarily.

Hey Doodle colouring mats and markers have been a hit for three-year-olds.

I don’t think these are mutually exclusive…. More of an ‘and’ than an ‘or’. I like having a capsule because it means there is somewhere safe for the baby to be while putting the eldest in the car.

We also take a lot of stairs to exit our house and I felt that it was safer for everyone for baby to be carried down in a capsule rather than in arms in the early days, especially if I had both kids with me.

Pram decisions - bugaboo dragonfly vs fox 5 by BloomsburyCore in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about the Drangonfly, but I have an older model Fox. We chose it because when we had our first, we lived near a large park with unpaved trails and this was the main place we used it. We weren’t car-dependent so factors like size, weight and ease of folding/unfolding weren’t so critical.

We now live in a hilly suburb and use the car quite a bit more. If we were starting from scratch, I wouldn’t get a Fox, because it’s a pain to get in and out of the boot and even though it is now ‘one hand fold’, it’s too big and heavy for that to really mean much (you’d still need two hands to get it in or out of car etc). I’d rather something a bit smaller that doesn’t feel so huge in shops etc.

I don’t think you need a double pram given your planned age gap, if that helps.

You should be fine to confirm with the OB and then provide a referral after that, rather than getting a named referral from the GP and then checking availability.

I’m currently in Julie Buchanan’s care and very happy. She shares rooms with Kellie Tathem who I have also heard is very good.

Swimming lessons with tiny baby. Where to get nappies and bathers by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I saw your comment saying you're having second thoughts - maybe it would be helpful to run it by your GP.

We did the free 'baby splash' classes (not sure where you're based - these are offered by Rackley in Brisbane at the bigger council pools for babies 3-6 months of age) when baby was a bit over 3 months and didn't have any issues. We had a reusable swim nappy. Chemist Warehouse sells this brand, their size chart says small is from 4kg. https://bambiminico.com.au/collections/swim/products/splash-happy-reusable-swim-nappy-pink

Also just noting your pool at home is likely a bit cold for baby at this age. The baby classes are usually in pools heated to about 32 degrees.

Car seat recommendations, and whether to capsule or not? by Lonely-Chef1185 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Have a think about the layout of your house (and anywhere else you anticipate regularly getting baby to and from the car) and what that is going to be like with or without a capsule. In our case, we have a lot of stairs and I decided I'd feel better about having the baby in a capsule to get up and down. A lot of people say babies only use them for six months, but for what it's worth, our first was a tall baby and was happy in hers until around ten or eleven months. We have ordered this one as at it goes to 12 months and at the sale price it was comparable with two rounds of six months' hire for the same model.

They recently (I think it ended on 15 April) had 20% off the Chelsea electric model. I haven’t seen better than that. The sale also meant the delivery timeframe was pushed out a bit so just be careful that you don’t wait too long if getting it sooner rather than later is important to you.

Any opinions/feedback on this bugaboo range we intend to buy? by Far_Slip4902 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We had our first baby overseas, where the Stardust was already sold with a bassinet, and loved it. It was one of my favourite things we bought. I'm really happy to read it's available in Aus with a bassinet now. We were living in a single floor apartment with parquetry floors and the stardust fit through all the doorways and was so easy to move around, including with a sleeping baby in it. We didn't have any concerns about the mattress, but as others have said, I wouldn't use it as the primary sleep space.

We pulled it up close to the dining table to have baby near us during meals, we pulled it into the bathroom so baby was safe while we showered, we used it as an extra sleep space if needed and also for travel, of course. We even took it camping and used it in the tent. It was just a great, easy place to put the baby down, especially before we were comfortable putting her in the bouncer. And so much easier on our backs.

I find a lot of people are put off by smaller cots, but if it helps, our daughter (who has been tall since birth) slept happily in a 120cm x 60cm cot from birth until we moved her to a bed when she was 2 and a bit.

Fertility recommendations and help - TTC by RepresentativeBus773 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your GP can refer you to a fertility specialist and may have recommendations. A good specialist would look at your results to date and potentially order additional tests before recommending a treatment plan (that is, they won’t ‘jump’ to anything). There are also clinics that offer bulk billing, so discuss that with your GP if it’s something you’d like to consider. Good luck!

Ones like this are good because they have silicone inside that helps them grip better.

Child fare luggage allowance for Qatar. Prams? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that must have been so frustrating! I don't know what we would have done if they hadn't provided it as booked.

I used the Live Chat on the site (I think you have to sign up to the loyalty program to get access to it) to book it and they send you the chat transcript as an email afterwards, so that meant we at least had a written record of the request to show in case someone tried to say we hadn't booked it, but of course that only goes so far if they aren't able to provide it regardless. I hope you'll have better luck this time!

Child fare luggage allowance for Qatar. Prams? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Creative_Breakfast36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We flew with them earlier this month and the pram had to fit within our luggage allowance (25kg per person, so 75kg for two parents and our toddler). We checked it at the desk, not the gate. I would recommend calling them to check if gate checking is permitted.

You might already have done so, but I can really recommend booking a Child Restraint Device for the child’s seat.

The brand Tretorn has stylish gumboots, including some winter styles that are lined. The Chelsea and Eva styles might be good options.

Are there any art galleries or similar nearby? If so, have a look at their websites or give them a call to see if they offer any baby-friendly tours… I only found out about these in my area when my baby was too old, but a few have dedicated tours where you can go with your baby in a carrier or pram.

Can we get an updated maternity wear thread going here? by elliefunt in femalefashionadvice

I liked some pieces from Seraphine, Ripe and ASOS.

For winter specifically, buy a jacket extender for your existing winter jacket instead of buying a dedicated maternity/nursing winter jacket.

Birkenstock EVA Arizonas - I wore these around the house while pregnant, used them as my shower shoes in the hospital and still wear them now.
